I am a technician at a ford dealer and during training they stated the zf BF falcon and SY territory dont need an additional oil cooler for towing at all, and they are rated at 2300kg towing capacity. Also been told most cheap transmission oil coolers are no good for them as they dont have enough oil flow. So if you where going to fit one it would need to be the right oil cooler. If i was to use one for towing i would look at fitting a cooler myself.

2012 Nsw Hillclimb Champs Q&a + Results
YCA18T replied to R32 Stuart's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
What sort of times are you running at Grafton, I live in Coffs Harbour and have done lots of hillclimbs there over the last 15 years. Been about 5 years since i have had a run but definately a fun track. Will have a run in my silvia either later in the year or next year depending on other events. I have run a best of low 52 in our home built clubman running about 150hp L18 datto motor. -
Most off the specifications that car manufacutrers place on towing is to cover there own arses with warranty. A good example of this is with manual and auto falcons, manuals are limited to 1600kg and autos 2300. This is to cover the gearbox and clutch during warranty period. In BA/BF XR6T manuals where only rated to 1200kg, FG XR6T manuals are now 1600kg. This is also true for thenew 4cyl ECO boost falcon, limited to 1600kg towing capacity, this is due to a smaller auto gearbox fitted to this model. It can not handle the weight if you tow more. This is also similar with VE commodores, Manual SS 1600, auto 2100kg, also manual have speed limit of 100kph but auto dont have a speed limit. I am not saying i would like to tow over 2000kg with these vehicles, just know that most of the rules the manufacturers set are to cover themselves during warranty periods.

It is good fun guys, I wont be doing rallying, as i dont have the money for that. My car is mainly setup for Drag Racing and tarmac events, not dirt. Having said that it gets used for all forms of motorsport, drags, hillclimbs, motorkhanas (both tarmac and grass), Dirt flat track and is a daily driver also. It has run an 11.93 @ 115mph at the drags with 240rwkw, and it is run on the dirt with exactly the same power and setup except for different tyres depending on the event. Still road tyres for the dirt lap dash though Here is a photo of mine from one of last years events, that is about 120kph, full sideways, flat in 3rd

Is great fun, Is located in Coffs Harbour on the North Coast, just near the airport. The track is actually a motorcycle flat track and we have permission to use The event is run by the Coffs Harbour & District Sporting Car Club, we plan on doing 3 to 4 events this year, the first of which is tomorrow. The event is run under a AASA permit and is a multiclub event. The start and finish has been changed to make things safer, we are now starting/finishing on the back straight so we dont have the high speed into the sweeper. I think it will make things better. We are entering the sweeper at 110-120 in the silvia, and we cant afford a car to go into the wall. I am not competing tomorrow but will be an official, I will try to get some more video footage of other vehicles

Hi All Here is a video of my Silvia running at a dirt lap dash in Coffs Harbour. It is being driven at the time by a mate who is an ex nsw clubman rally champ The car is a Nissan Silvia, CA18DET, 244rwkw and has run an 11.93@115mph. It is running on road tyres

Hi All, I am looking at organising another tuning trip for Dr Drift (Sam Cornell) to Coffs Harbour (NSW North coast) after the success of last 2 tuning trips in August 2007 & 2008. At this stage I am after EOI from people who would like there Nissan ECU's remapped, PFC's tuned or Subaru and Mitsubishi ECU's retuned. No dates have been set yet. These are the costs for the Nissan remaps Dr Drift (Sam Cornell) can do (+ others just talk to him) $330 + Dyno time - CA18, R32 RB20, RB26, R31/VL RB30, Z32 VG30 $450 + Dyno time - S13 SR20, N14 SR $550 + Dyno time - S14/15 SR20, R34 RB25 $1000 + Dyno time - R33 RB25, R33GTR RB26 (speak with Sam) The Subaru and Mitsubishi Tuning is basically for 98 models on with costs about $600 -$800, for more specific info on these speak with Sam The dyno time will be charged at $180 an hour and will be done on an AWD Mainline Dyno, there for GTR's, GTIR's, Evo's and Subarus wont be an issue. So if you are interested in getting either a Nissan ECU remap, Subaru or Mitsubishi retune or PFC tune, contact either myself Brett Saunders via PM or [email protected] or contact Sam Cornell (Dr Drift) on [email protected] or 0425818755

I will be there competing in Street Compact in my CA Silvia. Hoping to run into the 11's again, as well as going one round better than Compak attak, and make the final this time. Cheers Brett
-
Will be good to see what it runs down the strip, what sort of power does it have? Keep us informed as to how you go at WSID.
-
On that course he was faster than me, but it did suit the GTR, was the only course during the day that was wet, it rained just before the last course, and the silvia is not the best in the wet with 244rwkw and bald road tyres. Was a great day though and good to see someone out there in a GTR having a go. BTW I ended up finishing 5th outright and 1st in class. Not too bad considering the power and how much it was on the limiter sideways through out the day. Car was run basically the same as when run at Compak Attak in March, save for different rear tyres.

The stabilsiers are great, my dad would not tow anything any distance without them. Helps to keep the trailer tracking straight, and stops the rear of the car pitching, doesnt bounce up and down on the rear of the vehicle over undulations. We have towed it without them behind my father inlaws 80 series cruiser and it swayed around a bit above about 95kph, with the bars on behind the skyline or xtrail it is great. Dad said he would have no issue doing 140kph or so with the trailer and car on behind the skyline it tows that good. Would definately recommend some form of stabiliser bars regardless of the tow vehicle or size/type of trailer.
-
Yeah bit hard to beat front wheel drives, but I know who had the most fun on the day, and it definately wasn't him.
-
Here are some pics of the trailer we have to tow my Silvia. It was originally built for a 500kg clubman sports car we have but we have since modified it to fit the silvia. Basically the wheels are inboard, not sticking out, meaning it is only about 6 foot wide, not really any wider than the tow car, it has no suspension, it runs quite tal light truck tyres, has disc brakes and weighs about 280kg with the spare whell and ramps, when weighed for rego was 260kg, but didnt have ramps or spare fitted. The axle is rated at 1500kg and the tyres have combined rating of 1700kg. The car weighs 1130kg so all up it weighs about 1420kg ready to go. When towing we use stabiliser bars (which can be seen in the photos), and it tows very good, straight and stable, we have now done 4 trips from Coffs Harbour to Willowbank, and one to WSID for Compak attack with no issues. The good thing about it is there is no need for a 4wd to tow it due to the low weight and the fact it is the same width of the tow car there is no need to worry about how wide it is. Hope you guys like the tow car, for your interest it tows very well, also averages about 13l per 100km fuel economy while towing at 100kph. We also tow it behind my dads new Xtrail with no issues.

Hi Matt, Did you get any videos of my Silvia running? Was good to see some other imports out there having a run. Cheers Brett
-
Hi Mate, How much dyno time depends on a number of factors, but most of the time 2 hours is about all that is needed. This does depend on how modified the vehicle is, cams, big injectors and AFM change etc can take longer, cam timing adjustments add more time. Best to talk to Sam Cornell (dr drift) on specific times and quotes, his number is 0425818755

What are the benifits/advantages of getting your ECU remapped by Dr Drift - Boost cut/airflow cut removed or lifted - Speed limiter removed - Can be tuned for larger injectors, different AFM (ie SR to Z32 AFM) - Better throttle response, mid range torque - Overall better driveability - Better fuel comsumption, (very good thing with todays fuel prices) Some of the real benifits of keeping the factory ECU and getting it remapped are - Great cold start (just like factory) - Still has knock control fuction - Factory idle control - Not as easily detectable as full aftermarket ECU So if you are interested contact myself by PM or email [email protected] or Sam (dr drift) on [email protected] or 0425818725 Once we have enough numbers we will set the date and let everybody know. Cheers Brett
