Well, try looking at it this way, if you don't have enough money for an 'unjustified' timing belt change, then you certainly don't have the money to fix things when the timing belt breaks. Deal with it before it becomes a problem. Because if you leave it, it will become a VERY expensive problem.

My other half does all my polishing. And my metal fabrication, and all the other fun stuff that I can't do by myself. I do the painting and ricing and cleaning. I think it's fine.... as long as you don't mind getting dirty. It's probably not as viable as it sounds. Some things can be an absolute bitch to polish, my plenum has at least 8 hours work in it, and it still isn't perfect. You need to take into account that if something so small takes a whole day to do, will people be willing to pay you a whole days wages just for one little shiny bit?

Thats right, it's just a hunk of plastic. I have clear indicators on my R31. You can't buy them in the shops. And yes, its just clear plastic. Where theres a will, theres a way.

Compliance is basically just to say that the car meets Australian safety standards. Same as an engineers certificate. Both are issued to say that the car is safe to be driven on the road. The EPA doesn't have anything to do with safety issues, it's a matter of pollution, either air, or noise. And instead of "innocent until proven guilty", with the EPA, you are guilty until you prove yourself innocent.
