Victoria has certain regulations in regards to what's legal and what's not for a vehicle to be used on the road. People have options. Nobody is forcing 123456 to drive a vehicle which doesn't comply. It's his own choice. When someone chooses to do something which they know full well could cause them grief, it's nobodys fault but their own. Most people don't need a degree in rocket science to know that if you play with fire, you will get burned, eventually. Some people learn the first time, others will keep sticking their hands in the fire to see if the same thing happens. ....but honestly, there is no point in complaining about it. I've already offered the best possible advice for this type of situation, but seeing as nobody has taken it on board yet, I'm not opposed to repeating myself.

Calders website says competitor entry for drags is $40, is this information incorrect? When I was working full time I wasn't able to make it to Calder either. It's not possible to knock off at 5:00, come home, shower, pack the car up with wheels etc and then make it to Calder, prepare the car once there, and still be able to fit in a couple of runs. Does it really matter? No. Because a Sunday at Heathcote is waaaaaaaaaay better than a Friday at Calder. matlowth, it's already been explained that Sandown is not a viable option, due to trackside db limits, and the fact that it's in a residential area (amongst other things) Yes, it's used for drags at easternats, but it's not "set up" for drag racing. as for your other concerns, there is no law against taking off from the lights and giving it some, provided you don't loose traction while you're doing it. I have no idea what you're trying to get at with the slip lane thing, I think you may be a tad confused about what a "slip lane" actually is.

Now you're just being picky, 1/4, 1/8, does it really matter? If people live in Melbourne, they shouldn't have any problems with travelling to Calder. If they're not going to travel to Calder, then they certainly won't travel to the eastern suburbs, because the eastern suburbs is at least a half hour drive. ....and yeah, you just backed up exactly what I was saying. I certainly wasn't kidding. "Oh my god, I'm expected to travel? Screw that, I'll just do it on my doorstep instead". People who are keen, will travel. They will travel interstate if that's what it takes. It seems that many people are still having trouble coming to terms with the concept that the people who participate in street racing are NOT drag racers, they are criminals. Providing a drag strip in the eastern suburbs won't combat crime.

I feel like I'm having the same conversation on 2 forums at once..... ..oh wait..... I am Latrobe? The only problem with Latrobe, is it isn't on a busy road in Noble Park, so again, people will cry that it's too far. Sure, it would be great if every suburb had their own drag strip. But they don't. ...and as for the other sports mentioned, it's the same thing. I feel like I'm repeating myself here, but if people are interested in a certain sport, they will do what it takes to participate. Not every suburb has a go-kart track, but I don't see people pull their karts out and turn the roads into kart tracks. Not every suburb has a facility for flying RC planes, but I don't see the enthusiasts setting themselves up on a highway so they can fly their planes. "I live my life a 1/4 mile at a time, but don't ask me to drive a few measley k's to go to a safe venue to do it" Honestly I can't see a problem with the lack of facilities. If it something that people really want to do, they will do it. Even if it means relocating, moving house just to be nearer to the types of facilities that you want to have around you to enrich the lifestyle you choose...... EG; if you've got 12 kids, you don't buy a house with no public transport and no schools within 300 k's and then complain that there's no public transport and no schools nearby You buy something close to schools and public transport.

Let's pretend for a second, that MRC gives the go ahead for "more" events to be held at Sandown. Even if MRC approved it, the council wouldn't, especially if its "hoon events"... the behaviour displayed by spectators at "hoon events" is the exact same behaviour which is trying to be discouraged. Anyone who has ever attended an event at Calder would be aware of the types of behaviour which are exhibited by heroes in the car park, and the burnouts and dangerous actions which are undertaken by people as they are leaving events of this nature. Other factors: trackside db limit Residential area Track is not suitable for drag racing of any sort, and it's unlikely MRC would pay to have sections of the track resurfaced every 12 months so that the track is in good condition for the 500. People don't seem to realise that events are held at Sandown constantly. Track meets are a regular occurence, as are motorkhanas and driver training events which are run in the car park section. If people want to involve themselves in events, all they need to do is seek out the clubs that are holding the events. .......but I suppose sitting around whinging on a forum and firing off emails to a local newspaper (who ultimately have no say in the matter) is a viable option if people would prefer to sit on their hands instead of doing a bit of research and actively involving themselves in motorsport events which are already available to them. This is an instance where I'd be happy for people to prove me wrong. I'll eagerly await the results, and councils response to the feedback left by everyone, but I reckon you're all just banging your heads against a wall similar in size and construction to that of the great wall of china. Good luck

Are people getting dumber? "Just racing"? IT'S A PUBLIC STREET! Not just any public street, an extremely busy highway. If you are one of the people who was there, then you are a part of the problem. Don't even bother trying to pass yourself off as an "enthusiast". A genuine enthusiast doesn't engage in illegal activities to participate in their sport.

Richard Hammond Crash Footage

Yeah..... it's in the wasteland. ... but i'm sure there are plenty of people who read this section and never venture into the wasteland who would be interested in seeing it. -

I was after some camera advice too, but i don't want to totally hijack your thread, so i'll help answer your question.... before asking mine, rather than start another thread flash off, camera on tripod. I had shocking troubles with photos at autosalon until i realised that the flash was negating the natural light which was available. (..and i'm also interested in additional hints/tips in regards to indoor photography) What I was hoping someone could assist with is lens cleaning. There seems to be a blob of gunk which has somehow landed itself on the lens, and i don't want to try cleaning it with anything which could potentially cause damage.

Hr31 Skyline, Silloette? 1987 4dr 5spd
SKY031 replied to Hybrid33GTST's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)
Some basic info would be good. Like colour? Is this an import? You've listed it as "HR31 Silhouette" The Silhouette is Aus built, HR's are jap built. ....and please list a price as per guidelines. -
The last EPA letter we recieved had some tiny print on it, saying that if the vehicle was registered at an address which was more than 40k's from the testing facility, that the test wasn't compulsory. This is only in the event of a "full" EPA test, not related to noise/smoke etc. Keep in mind this letter was over 12 months ago, they may have changed things since then, business is good for the EPA, so it wouldn't shock me if they've opened a couple of rural testing stations by now. ...but read the fine print. Always read the fine print. They make it tiny for a reason!

Sucks to be you if you have an electric hot water system, but either way, there's no way that any shower could have been "cold" yesterday, the temperature of the water coming out of the cold tap was anything but cold. .....and why would you want a hot shower when its 40 degrees?

All states have different combinations available, and checking if something is available in NSW doesn't help much if the person doing the asking lives elsewhere, which is why it's worth establishing which state the thread starter lives in. ....anyhoo, this thread seems to defeat it's own purpose, something is hardly "custom and unique" if it's an idea which has been taken directly from someone elses brain

Painting and Powder coating rocker covers
SKY031 replied to maximumrpm's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
These aren't engine parts, but you can't see them unless the bonnet is up, so it sort of still fits into this category.... Yonks ago I painted my old air horns with a view to installing them "one day". They were originally red. I don't like red. Now they are white, with blue, pink and purple pearl flecks. (modelled by "Oliver" with Yoda watching on) ...and I also painted (and modified) the strut tops... just for something to do They originally looked like this: Then I thought "hmmmmm, what if the hole on top was welded up"? So the tops were welded, and then I painted them in Ford "Blaze blue". (This blue doesn't truly represent itself in images where light is directly on its surface. The image below is a better indicator of the actual colour.) Horns and strut tops are now in the car. ...and the power steering reservoir got some paint too... Nissan leave these in their natural finish, which tarnishes and looks yucky and dirty. ...and yes, I know the white is "too white", I think the dude got his quantities wrong when he was mixing the paint, because he was given the correct paint code! However, once the rest of the engine bay is a bit cleaner, the contrast between the whites will be a lot less. ....and that's probably the last submission on the subject for me, there's nothing else left in the engine bay to paint! .....accept maybe the overflow bottle? -
Perhaps if you let everyone know which state you're in, people can offer valid combinations? :sorcerer:
