"That wasnt supposed to happen.. oh wells" I was actually standing on pit wall as you flew past for your first lap of the day, i said to someone next to me (cant remember who) "$5 he (Cassbo) has an epic fail ASAP, he drives that thing like its stolen"................... sure enough, never to disappoint, second lap, turn 1, enter Cassbo and a scandinavian flick. Add a whole lot of WTF factor, dash of opposite lock and you get a failboat sliding all the way thru turn 1 in perfect oppo lock.... Absolute GOLD!! If only u meant to do it.... it looked EPIC! Got a massive horaah from the crowd! I do hope someone got that on vid!!!
  4. Sorry to drag you away from Peter champ..... the whole day kicking off was literally in the hands of scruitineering. Gary was asking me every 30 mins when it would be done so we could kick off briefing, but getting thru 40 or so cars by 1 person just held things up. So having you and Clapa just assisted in speeding things up somewhat.

From this (god i miss the nugget) To this - Now this is a perfect example for all you people out there that think your car is too pretty for the track. I convert my Silvia from the pretty Autosalon spec to track spec in a jiffy. So you can have both, pretty + track = WINNAH!! Autosalon Spec Track Spec See kiddies the memories and laughs you have from attending these days are worth it so much! I expect to see you all there on Sunday! Now if you are not ready to take the plunge this weekend, at least come and see how much fun your missing out on !!
  12. OK my input... shite this could be long LOL When - 2004 Where - OP GP With who - Ian Luff Day Any pre-setup involved - Yes, see below Favourite memory of the day - Finally getting out and seeing what all the fuss was about. Also realising that its not so daunting afterall Things you learnt; about your car, yourself or the track - Lots, See below How much fun you had! - x11ty million trillion Okay here goes *deep breath* I first bought a R33GTST back in 2001 i think it was. (old skool SDU days) Had it for a little bit then sold up. After a few years of owning a few other cars I starting to get some thoughts about hitting a track to see if i could match my Playstation GT skills in real life Thus i bought a Nissan Cefiro. Nice and cheap with a good ol RB to boot! Perfect recipe for some track fun. (okay this could get long winded) So back to the point, i had so much nerves about the whole idea of getting out there and hitting the track for the first time.... what if this, what if that...etc etc. I finally took the plunge and locked myself into an Ian Luff day at OP GP. Now i did plenty of research prior to this to make sure i was confident that the car would hold up, leaving me (driver) as the limiting factor There should ALWAYS be pre-setup / checks before any track day, no excuses. It is a simple exercise and very non stressful. Im sure people have slight variations on the 'checklist' but mine is as follows: 1. Brakes - Meat on pads? Rotors OK? Most importantly, BLEED THE BRAKES 2. Engine / Cooling / Fluids - Make sure you keep you puppy ticking over noice. Check all levels, power steering, coolant, and over fill engine with oil by about .5L (user discretion) 3. Tyres - Make sure arent on belts 4. Everything securely fastened in engine bay and interior. (Ie. Battery etc) 5. OPTIONAL - Take to mechanic for a once over of tune and everything you have done for piece of mind Ok so i had the confidence that my nugget cefiro was going to last the outing. The rest was up to me. To put it reall really simply, your day will only be as good as you allow it to be. If you go out on your first ever track day thinking you are Micheal Schumacher and drive like a nutter, well you are likely to come unstuck. You should make sure you are always driving a few notches back from your 'limit'. A lot of my concern was to do with hitting other cars or walls which i quickly realised was all within my control. Other drivers are just as concerned about their pride n joy as you are. So everyone out there will be avoiding 'morse code' on panels as much as the next person! The walls should only be an issue if YOU are driving too hard. So within a few laps/sessions on this track day, i quickly realised that there was nothing to be afraid of at all in hitting the track. As long as i was confident that my car was up to the task, the rest was in my hands. I think to summarise what i learnt from my first outing is that you are in control of how your day is to pan out. You should step into your first track day with plenty of confidence in your car, as well as believing in yourself and most importantly, driving within your limits. Now 4 years on i am hooting around in my little S13 with countless hours behind the wheel and loving every second of it! You will always be 'learning' the art of motorsport, but good attitudes and commonsense is the perfect recipe for an addictive hobby So to all those, sitting on the fence, wondering if you should take the plunge, DO IT! Days like the up and coming SAU OP day are perfect for you to learn how to drive your car the way you have always wanted to! Any doubts or worries are solely in YOUR hands and trust me, it's nothing to worry about at all! SEE YOU ON THE TRACK PEEPS
  13. PS. Failvia wont be entered. My fire sale of parts hasnt cleared my debt and left me short for rego, thus the nugget wont be lapping! BUT i will be there with bells on to help out!
  14. No infield positions. Photographers normally sit on the fence line down the bottom of the track, getting shots of cars coming thru the Esses. Also a good point is the flag point over the flip flop, you get cars coming out of Suttons then over the Flip flop.... seen some epic shots there!! Other place is in the grand stand snapping people oversteering, playing chicken with the wall, coming onto the straight (Turn 12)
  15. Chiming in with my setup.... S13 with QFM A1RM's Front - R33 GTST calipers over DBA 4000's Rear - S13 calipers over DBA 4000's Rotor wear is what i would expect after about 5-6 track days... bit of a lip but nothing to stress about! Braking... well it does the job, but would love a bigger setup.... I wouldnt stress too much Dan. As Duncan said, just check the rotors look ok and have 'even' wear.......
  16. Ha! It's on like donkey kong.... Nothing more enjoyable than a bit of Evo chop chop..... Now this is more like it fellas! Bring on the banter!
  17. hhhmmmm Ricardo... if your interested in 32 GTR seats let me know... maybe i can sell off my pass n driver to you and fund a proper race seat!
  18. *QUOTED* No excuses now!!!
  19. OH FFS please please bring it out!!!!! About time you hit the track in your cheater car
  20. Farkin awesome Stu!! Back in the game! Now show me pics of wing install on the Yellow Submarine KTHXBAI!!
  21. Woke up at 5am.... all sweet, walked out the door at 6am..... WTF!!!!!!!!! Not everyday you wake up too a dirt covered car and a sky on fire!!! What's next.......... *ponders the movie 'The Day After Tomorrow'*
  22. Yeah i am too concerned about the skinny width.... I was trying to sell these to fund some more RE55's, but no bites I cant afford new ones outright so my only option is to run on these. My current RE55's i have had for 12 months, done about 12 events, so quite a few laps... I have flat spotted 3 of the 4 to the point where i am getting serious vibrations... so they have lasted a very long time, but are pretty much shagged. So, i am thinking they may still be slightly better than running the RE55's, although losing the tire width.... Thanks again to everyones replies! If anyone knows anyone who needs some 16" slicks for a smaller vehicle, Honda, MX5 etc etc let me know Surely someone needs some cheapo 16's
  23. O'Rly........... ha shows how muh i know about em or even looked at em... thanks for the info thou harry!
  24. Thanks again Duncan! So in short, more grip but will really spit me around if they let go... FUN Rest of the info makes sense, appreciate it champ! As for driver input.. thats why i said i really have to concentrate on throttle input exiting the corners... which i am fine with, BUT hey, who doesnt want a little more grip on the cheat I will try the "late apex" thought.... but for a novice driver like me, im sure i will quickly forget Oh and also work on my steering wheel technique LOL Yep on the shopping list when i can afford it My stock sump already has a custom 'ridge' thanks to the ripple strip (Suttons @ OP) Good to hear! Anyone suggest if 500ml is enough 'overfill' in an SR20? Or should it be 750ml - 1L? One question too.... which Ben just breifly touched on .... whats the wear life on slicks like? Can i expect to get a couple of supersprint rounds out of em? Also how do i know they are shot (apart from feel)... ie semis you can tell by tread wear (camber) etc...
  25. Good point Ben, didnt think about that (oil surge). I am aware that by running a grippier tyre, it will put a little extra 'pressure' on components, potentially enlightning me to the next weakest point.... I always over fill by about 500ml - 1L, but have an aftermarket oil pressure guage. Track work sees it float betweem 1.2 - 4 bar. Sometimes it drops to about 1 bar which is still ok i think! But thats talkin about a tractor SR20 Not sure about your RB20 donk....
