Should I Install A New Clutch By Myself?
75coupe replied to 75coupe's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
ahhh yeah I have no extra persons to call on for this so it be just myself doing this, probably with the girlfriend watching while she enjoys a beer... Ive been quoted $500 for labour and flywheel machining by a reputable clutch place... almost the same cost as the clutch and other parts... but atleast it would be done right I guess and the only sweating I'll do is while the skylines not in my possession. wish I had a hoist and gearbox stand.... what about oils?? re-use and get new stuff, any recommendations, on supposedly newish box? -
Ive got another gearbox waiting to be installed, I bought it from a workshop up the coast, they said it was recently completely rebuilt with all new syncros etc... and yep it has new sealant so it has been rebuilt but Im taking his word for it that it is basically brand new... soon find out I guess.. I'll be getting a new exedy clutch kit, NSK-7056HHHDB Ive done everything else on this car myself, but knowing (from moving the rb25 gearbox around) how heavy the geabox is and also the fact I dont have a hoist (I wish) in my garage should I be installing the new gearbox and clutch by myself or pay for a professional to do it... I get a bit nervous taking my car to a workshop for anything (its rare I get others to do anything on my cars), Ive had bad experiences and Im always worried they just take it for a hoon... Also I hate to pay to have it changed and then findout the gearbox aint what it was sold as and needs to come back out, I doubt this to be the case but you just never know... the sealant looks new and all... Is it worth taking the risk and getting a workshop to install the new gearbox? opinions wanted... and should I re-use the shockproof lightweight oil I have in my current box or just get new oil too?... I dont usually re-use fluids.

you dont need help you need time to read up on the fuel pumps on here... heaps of threads discussing this and those threads will have more info than your thread hear will gather... bosch 040 is what I run, cause from what I read on here the genuine ones are reliable and I didnt have to rewire like for the walbro as it likes constant 12v or something... and I can run the 040 in tank as opposed to the 044 is for mounting outside the tank, read the DIY for 040 install easy as...

I wouldnt have a clue on cost, I'll be getting quotes myself from the professionals... It could turn milky in less than a year more like a few weeks depending on how much sun it gets and what resin or gel coat quality has been used.

you dont need protein supplements to strip fat, as some of the others have suggested count calories, average male uses 1800-2500calories a day approx, so eat that amount or slightly less and workout every second day... I run of a morning 5Km, fitness ball afterwards, and if Im in 'yeah I'll pay for gym for a bit' mode Id go three times a week starting on running or bike get heart rate up to 160 (25mins each) then move onto weights a personal training I know suggested doing 100m sprints then ground exercises, situps, pressups, star jumps etc... dont stop for breath in between sprints and ground exercise, repeat until you cant do anymore, again every second day... I usually get rid of my fat in 4-7months, but Im pretty lean anyway, but I get a bit lazy once the fats gone and start having eating & drinking fun and back it comes... after fat is gone then work the cardio as much as you want, still calorie count to a point, but you can then work on building muscle and you'll actually see the real muscle not muscle with a layer of fat... it'll be slightly different for everyone... protein shakes and crap simply arnt needed to burn fat, if you taking in protein and NOT burning it off it will become fat... so strip your intake and exercise, easy...!

ok so, apparantly all automotive clear coats have a UV stabiliser in them and that why clear coats can be so expensive... that the words directly from an automotive paint supplier. so nothing special to worry about but yes most carbon fibre parts dont have UV stable clear coat on them, and yes you will need to get them clear coated to stop the sun making them cloudy or yellowing them. sounds like I should buff my headlights and get them done at the same time...

you sure its lifters and not injectors...

ok have a go and report back... I dont think I'll risk that one unless I see it achieved elsewhere first

no to the hacksaw method, definitely scratch something doing that... may just have to drill and throw the std wing away... suck
-
from doing a little google researching Ive found out its a common issue and others have found that nissan used locktite on atleast one of the bolts either side... others have drilled them out also... any suggestions to avoid drilling them out?

any chance of getting some pics of your newly installed bolts and cone washer combos... and a list of sizes or part number... I been looking at that bolt site and trying to work out what I need for what and finding it quite intense... -
I have the same problem, I dont want to drill out the bolts cause I want to reuse the them, so its all stock... plus it will probably ruin the std blade...

nice oil cap... I havnt seen that one before... not bling and and keeps your black theme going... -
if its permanent sure, Ive never used or heard of zaino clear seal... so cant comment... I def prefer something permanent rather than something I have to keep applying regularly...
