Well a bit's been happening on here lately. RaseR: About the Reinhard exhausts I have contacted Ivan from Hi Power Racing (www.hipowerracing.com) who responded to be very quickly. He has informed me that the Silenced system puts out below 90dB, though I'm sure that that's very quiet, was thinking more about 85dB & yeah the unsilenced system isn't called "Loud" for nothing. Interesting that you say the silencer stuffs the systems looks, I asked for a couple of pictures but he didn't have any. Are they actually the baffles in the tips on the sample shot? Also have you considered BATMBL's split dump? From what I've seen & found out elsewhere on here u'd have to pay me to fit a CES dump to my 33. The O2 sensor is mounts in the pipe completely wrong, & is going to kill the sensor very quickly. Not what u want especially if you upgrade to a wideband sensor EXPENSIVE! Not real impressed with the quality of the work or the design either. Boost32: You may want to have a bit more of a read of the previous pages as well as run a serch for a couple of the systems you're talking about. Nuffsaid: Thanks for your info on the Kakimoto system. I'm kind of not surprised that an R34 didn't gain as much power with the exhaust system, they have the same engine as an S2 R33 but quote higher power in the first place, they had to get the extra from somewhere I'm sorry to say.

Yeah I can't see myself getting out of it for much under 2 grand. Though I will be fitting the system myself unless I go full custom. Mr BT-Racing seems to have no knowledge of a twin Fujitsubo system so I may be up the creek there. Two other options I've got is a Rein hard exhaust, or a full custom system by exhaust technology. I'm getting fussier as to what I want as I know I won't be happy if I get something else that I don't like the look of.

I haven't actually seen a fujitsubo twin system myself, but I do know they exist. It's called a Legalis R TDX, trying to search through their site is rather difficult since it is mainly in Japanese, but I've got a feeling not everying they sell is on there either. -
Need Help With A Cutting Out Problem
J_Red33 replied to Robz's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Cool good to see u got it soughted out. I had forgotten that the AFM is a common problem with 33's. Reckon I'll be getting a Power FC & pissing off my AFM all together if it starts giving problems on mine. Will replace it with a MAP sensor. -
Cheers mate, posted a message on the page

Hi there, I'm looking for a dual tip Exhaust for my R33 GTS-T S2 coupe & have heard good things about both Kakimoto & Fujitsubo. I know that they both sell a dual tip system, but trying to get a picture or 1 is nearly impossible. I'm also after a system that's a bit louder (not too much louder) than standard, preferable with more top end noise & is not an angled fit. If you could give a quote on any dual tip (or even full dual pipe) system you sell for my car that roughly fits my description (& maybe a photo or 2) it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers -
Need Help With A Cutting Out Problem
J_Red33 replied to Robz's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Starting to sound like a pretty good chance that's ur problem. Also if you shut it off for a few minutes to heat soak & then try to start it again but have trouble then I'd place very high odds on it. It's usually under heat that they fail, & sometimes it is intermittent, electronics & heat are a real pain when combined. If you're worried that you are going to waste ur money on a new sensor though, take it to a deacent auto elec that specialises in EFI technology & make sure he has all the equipement (IE occilloscope and diagnosics equipment to plug into the ECU) and make sure he know's what he's talking about. If he doesn't have any knowledge of Nissan CAS being a problem then run. -
Need Help With A Cutting Out Problem

It's a distinct possibility, but I would have thought u'd have trouble throughout the rev range too if it was the CAS, however depending which 1 of the two reference signals is dying you may get away with a few extra revs. If the other dies though, u'll have nothing. Is it happening more when it's hot or on a hot day out of curiousity? -
The other more obvious thing to look at is the way the build plate is attached to the firewall. If it doesn't have the original plastic security rivvets be VERY careful & start asking hard questions. Other than that I mine's engraved too & I've no reason to believe my car's been rebirthed, it was very thouroughly checked out before I bought it.

Ok I've really looked a bit harder at the Apexi system & while it may be quiet, it's definantely not the look I'm going for. Like I've said previously I would like a good quality system that's not angled & would like twin pipe if I can get 1 worth having. I still have heard nothing back from either Top spec or MU Secret about fujitsubo exhaust, which I thought was a bit weak & I have seldom found a Kakimoto exhaust for an R33 either. I don't know enough about Greddy/Trust or HKS exhausts to rule them out either, but I'm leaning towards the Fujitsubo or a custom system if I can't get a bolt on that I'm happy with. I've also seen another brand called Rein Hard just to add extra confusion, which sells a Titanium twin pipe setup for $975 which is supposedly 'Silent'. Though I can't be sure on that 1. Just to clarify I'm after a system that makes a bit of noise at mid to top end, without too much bass. I want enough that you can definantely hear it when you put ur foot down, but so it's just a nice burble that you can hear only with the windows down when cruising.... Or as close a compromise to that as possible. Any comments on the power gains people got from their bolt on's/custom systems would also be appreciated. I'd like to get as much info on here as possible for future referece of others too. Thanks for the input so far guys

Cheers, that's some good pic's. Hopefully if people keep posting stuff like that many people will be able to make a decision about what exhaust they will go for. I'm still undecided, but that was a great help, thanks

Thanks for that input, some deacent info there. I have seen the Apexi N1 cat backs for about $750 + frieght brand new, so they're not exactly going to break the bank. Just a couple quick questions: Is the N1 an angle or straight out exhaust? How rigid does it sit when fitted & does it hang low?
-
Thanks man I'm going to PM him now. I also emailed MU secret, as well as this Top Spec Site I found but haven't heard back from either yet. Will keep people posted. Also to add more complication I've found another brand, Rein Hard. Anyone with any comments about these exhausts would be greatly appreciated.

Sorcing Down A O2 Sensor For My R33
J_Red33 replied to Robz's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Well just for future reference for anyone that may look I just took a picture of both my R33's & my friends S14 O2 sensor. They were exactly the same with the same plug & wire colours. Couldn't be easier. R33 Sensor S14 Sensor -
Sorcing Down A O2 Sensor For My R33
J_Red33 replied to Robz's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
All u need to look for on the sensor is that it has the same wire configuration, same thread size & hex head, & the same style of sensor ending. The whole sensor itself will look exactly the same because it is. If you have to cut wires though crimp them with nice thick metal crimp connectors, don't solder them solder melts at too low a temperature for an exhaust system. It's also best to then put heat shrink over each join before wraping the lot up with vulcanising tape. If you do it like that you'll never have a problem. -
Sorcing Down A O2 Sensor For My R33
J_Red33 replied to Robz's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I used to work at Petroject in Adelaide (same name different people though) & it was rare for us to charge more than $100 for any O2 sensor apart from stuff for some european cars. A lot of the time even if we didn't have a part number, we could normally match it up to something we had (if the customer brought it in) sometimes even with the same plug & all just different part number. A lot of the manufacturers try to fool you into believing that the O2 sensor for every car is different. It rubbish, a lot of the time they use the same sensor maybe with a different plug & part number. I think it's highly likely the SR20 sensor is exactly the same as most nissan O2 sensors are very similar right back to the R31's. As for the after cat sensor I'm not so sure we hadn't had barely any demand for them, though that may have changed since I left -
Cheers mate. Much appreciated I am a bit wary because HKS is one of those brands who get every 1 else to make stuff for them & put their name on it. Who knows where it's made & how good it is. Having said that I haven't actually seen 1 so I can't cancel them out. I did see a Blitz system in Autobahn on display only a few weeks back & the welds on that were shite. They had a Drift exhaust on display that was cheaper & better made. So it pays to watch some of these big brands
-
Yeah I went to search last night for them on the net & turned up nothing. Everything else I've looked up I've generally been able to find at least 1 local seller. So I'd like to ask now if anyone knows of some places that I can get Fujitsubo & Kakimoto exhausts to let me know. I did find one company called top spec, but they've botched their site up as it has prices but not what car they suit! I'm also looking at the Trust systems with increasing interest & maybe HKS though I'm a bit wary of the quality of those, not sure what they'd be like.
-
Some interesting points being made & pleanty to think about. I think you'll find as far as some being quiet on the outside but loud inside it comes down to the quality of the resonator being used. I really hate the vibrational humm of the standard exhaust from inside when at low revs under load, but it does still have a fairly loud idle from the outside too, but not as much when you rev it. As far as a pod filter making more noise is concerned, I'm not getting 1 for that exact reason. I've got an Apexi high flow panel filter on order that should do just as good a job. Many people have already said and proved for themselves on a dyno that all a pod is going to do is make more noise. So an exhaust that isn't too loud should still be heard clearly. A far as the Kakimoto exhausts are concerned I will be looking carefully. I have noted with a few brands now that they offer various levels of loudness with their exhaust depending on what it is to be used for. Anything which you have to fit a restrictive silencer to keep the noise level down will not be on my shopping list that's for sure. I appreciate the the input guys.
-
Kakimoto hey? Yet another 1 to add to the list. I will be looking into that for sure. The main problem for me is systems that have a real bassy drone to them, that drives me insane after a while. I still want a reasonable amount of bark when I put my foot down, but with not too much bass humm for when I'm cruising. To me an exhaust should sing & roar, not bellow & belch. It was interesting yesterday I seen two 33 in a matter of minutes, both with big cannon mufflers. 1 of them sounded really bassy and droned, and sounded like a VL. No decent note what so ever. The I seen another literally about a minute later & it had the sweetest burbling tune as it went past with minimal bass. I have a bit of an inclination that it may have been a Greaddy exhaust but cannot be sure.
-
Well I've just ordered an Apexi air filter from Nengun along with a couple other bits to cheapen the freight. Should be interesting to see what kind of difference it makes. I won't be dyno'ing it for a while though
-
I personally doubt that it's something electronic. How does a manual car suddenly drop 300 rpm without dropping speed at the same time? They're not like an automatic which will vary revs according to how much throttle is applied.... unless the clutch is slipping. If the revs are higher torque has less of a role to accelerate the car. I'd say chances are he's slipping at middle revs at peak torque. When power takes over the clutch bites again
-
In actual fact so far the bolt on systems have been either the same price or cheaper than the quotes I've had for a custom system. If I can keep the cost down to say about $1200 for a really good quality system that isn't too noisy I'll be happy. I'm trying to find some1 that sells the Fujitsubo exhausts too. I've heard something about there being a TDX Legalis R series which is twin outlet & I'd prefer if there's such a thing for a R33. I definantely won't be touching a drift exhaust since they're meant to be loud as hell. I want a bit more noise than the stocky puts out, but not so loud that when I'm crusing it's annoying. For the same reason I'll be fitting a panel filter instead of a loud pod, which from what I've read really does nothing until you're talking 400+ RWKW's & that's a long way off if it ever happens.
-
Hmm I still like the idea of a custom exhaust. I may have to try another place in town called Exhaust Techniques. Haven't really heard much about them though. I'm put off of D&T just from walking in the place & talking to them, plus what others have said about them that know a thing or 2.
-
Hmm there could still be a bit of power being lost to your cat. I'm guessing it's a ceramic type catalyst? From the research I've done on this so far there is a broad varyation in the flow of so called "Hi flow" cat's. The metal type cat's seem to be flowing as much as 20% more air than a large body ceramic type, which in anyone's language is heaps. So I'm thinking I won't be compromising there as they're meant to last a lot longer to, being metal rather than a ceramic that falls apart after so long.
