  1. Well you haven't exactly flooded us with information! Stock R32 headunit? aftermarket? Anyway, I'd be checking for power at the back of the HU first... like get a multimeter (or a simple 12V test probe) and check for power between ground and both the +12V battery wire and the ACC wire. If there's power there, the headunit is buggered... if not it might be the fuse in the fusebay... Good luck!
  2. Is this a backlight globe, or one of the indicator ones? The backlights (in mine anyway, Manual R33) are standard parker globes (I used BlueVision parkers coz I had a heap laying around... and it looks awesome ). I wouldn't think it would be any different for an auto. I'm not sure about the actual indicator globes though (i.e. the gear selection lights).
  3. As far as I'm aware, yes it will fit.
  4. Care to elaborate for the rest of us?
  5. Well I took some notice of the revs on the way home from work last night... at 100 km/h: 5th: 3000rpm 4th: 3900rpm 3rd: 5000rpm 2nd: 7000rpm 1st: kaboom Thats in my r33 GTS (NA). I've always assumed that's all normal! 3000rpm on the freeway doesn't sound all that economical, but it'll still pull 180 at the top of 4th, so I would assume it's been geared correctly! From what I remember... the top speeds are something like: 1st: 60km/h 2nd: 110km/h 3rd: 150km/h 4th: 180km/h 5th: 180km/h (speed-limiter)
  6. 3000RPM at 100... sounds about right... Mine does about that (factory manual) I think... hmmm... not sure... have to take more notice! But I think it's around that...
  7. I'm planning to do that on my S1 33 (with the clear SKYLINE panel). I've got a can of touch-up paint made up, the plan is to spray the whole 'garnish', then use a sharp blade to gently scratch off the paint over the top of the letters. Then, I'm going to dremel out the back of the garnish and mount some LED's in there. These will be wired to come on with my taillights I think... I may go with an extra switch (but still hooked into the tail-lights so I don't leave them on by accident and flatten my battery)... we'll see! I'll post up some pics when it's all done.
  8. That's a custom painted dash trim. I'm in the process of doing mine as we speak (for the second time actually!). Basically take the trim off, strip the rubber-crap off with nail-polish-remover, sand it back, and spray whatever colour you like! If you stripped and sanded it back you could always take it to a spray-booth and get it sprayed professionally... when mine is finished i'll post some pics
  9. I first stapled and glued the carpet in the boot to the wooden panel that covers the spare tire. This was modified a little to make it so that it doesnt move around itself. Then, I stuck (and stapled) a few pieces of the 'hook' side velcro onto the bottom of the sub. I just plonked the sub where I wanted it... and no movement! Velcro is incredibly strong sideways, so the weight of the sub box itself basically stops it moving. If I want to remove it (i.e. need the boot space), i just unplug the cable (I put a socket in the boot lining), and lift straight out! Works perfectly... I occasionally throw the car around a little and it's never moved or come off.
  10. Got any inside pics (i.e. dash)?
  11. Exactly... Mine is probably (lol... definently ) over the 90dB limit... but it's a low rumble until you really give it some go (i.e. over 4500RPM...) so it's the low note resounding around the concrete carpark walls, rather than the sheer volume. It's almost certainly under 90dB at those revs anyway...
  12. My 33 is pretty loud... I often set car alarms off in the multi-level carpark here at work. I'm jsut rolling along nice and slowly (i.e. around 5-10km/h) and if I give it a tiny bit of go (i.e. say 2500RPM) I frequently hear alarms going off. It's pretty funny actually, although I don't do it much anymore (novelty wore off, and I kinda feel bad coz when people get back to their cars and there is that extra chirp when they unlock, it's really not a nice feeling!)... but it used to be fun
  13. As VashR31 said... with NA you *can* have too big an exhaust. 2.25 - 2.5" is the largest you want to go... after that you start to loose power down low. I had a 3" JASMA turbo exhaust on my NA 33 when I got it... put a 2.5" custom setup on it and it's got a noticeable torque increase down low in the rev range. For a turbo however, the backpressure is generated by the turbo itself... after that you want as much flow as possible. On a turbo you could run 6" all the way from the turbo, straight out and it would go beautifully... and be freaking loud! In reality though, anything larger than 3.5" is just for show... sure it won't do any harm to performance but it'll drone like buggery and be way too loud... not to mention defectable
  14. That works, but make sure you go into Tools > Options > Rip Music, set the Format to MP3 and set the 'Audio Quality' slider to 192kbps MINIMUM... (I rip all mine at either 256 or 320Kbps...)
  15. Lol my bad! exactly!
  16. See harley's aren't that loud when you buy one new. On the first service however, all the baffles are removed from the exhaust. viola! loud bike! Got a mate who works at a harley shop and he told me it's part of the first service package... i.e. you have to specifically ask them if you want them to leave the baffles in!
  17. "Why Do So Many People Hate Our Cars"? two words: The Media Read the papers, listen to the radio, watch the TV... loud/modified/low/jap -car = hoon
  18. MoogLe, I gave my NA 33 GTS a full service last weekend... so that included gearbox and diff. I use the Redline Lightweight Shockproof that you mentioned... it's damn expensive though... $130ish for 5L (box takes about 2.5L). My gearbox is a little worn and slightly 'notchy' sometimes, so this is a worthwhile investment (I put some in about a year ago, then blew my clutch. when they changed my clutch they drained my oil!). If your gearbox is in really good condition (i.e. smooth into and out of every gear), don't bother with the redline. As for the gearbox, I used Penrite LimSlip 90, simply because that's what Penrite suggested for my car
  19. With it's bypass system when closed, I can't see any problems occurring. Obviously you will loose some power as there is extra restriction in the line (I'm assuming you've got a turbo), but it's not gonna be that bad that it doesn't flow at all (which can cook a catallytic converter pretty quickly!). Just think of it like having a 1.5" exhaust instead! When you want power, you open it up and you've got power along with noise.
  20. Power loss was half the reason i put the butterfly in... see it's a 3" system off a turbo (JASMA) but because mine is NA the power is too far up the rev range... i.e. I've got NOTHING until about 5K... then it pulls pretty hard up to 7.5K (limiter ) The way I understand it, for a turbo you gain backpressure between the exhaust valves and the turbo impella... whereas on NA, the exhaust needs to provide the backpressure. So for turbo, you want the most free-flowing exhaust possible, but for NA you need to make sure it's not too free flowing. My logic was that at idle, the valve would be almost shut, creating enough backpressure to bring my power down to a nice, usable rev range. as I reach 5K RPM, the valve would open, my power range would be shifted up a bit, and I would continue to have power to redline/limiter. Because I've never gotten around to hooking it all up, I can't really test this theory though! Like so many other things on my to-do list... one day... one day...
  21. I did both last weekend... the gearbox is about 2.5L, I used Redline Lightweight Shockproof - pricy though at $130/5L!... The diff is a little under 2L I think.... I used Penrite LimSlip90.
  22. That's pretty mad... I've got an APEXi ECV (standard butterfly valve) on my 33... lol well kinda! The idea was to hook it up to the motor that came factory with the car, but I've never gotten around to doing the cable.. so it's 100% open all the time! When I manually close it up (to about 90%... don't want it 100% blocked!) it's not too much different at idle/low revs but really noticeable at higher revs. I must note that i have a VERY LOUD exhaust on mine... only intensified by the fact that it's NA
  23. I've done it a few times on my S1... but no airbag. Give the search function a work out... try this thread.
  24. As others have said, welcome! I hit a 'roo just over a year ago (Christmas Eve actually... "Merry Christmas" hey!) and certainly made a mess of my car... not as bad as yours by the look of things though. I wrote about it here.
  25. Your link didn't work for me.... but this one should. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...em=290195160527
