A Couple Problems With My R34 Gtt
blah_blah replied to MrRx7s3's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Does it take minutes...? I paid about $300 for labour and $80 for a turbo gasket kit to get mine done ? -
Hrmm expected pricing and completion of the SS1 Prototype Stao? You can PM me if you wish.
-
Sorry to be a noob, But can someone explain to me in lamens terms 9 sec ramp v 12 sec ramp and why one is used and sometimes the other? And how do you tell from a dyno graph which ramp rate is used? Just want to compare the SS1 Prototype to say Harey's SS-1 dyno graph and my own stock turbo dyno graph from Trent's dyno.

Hrmmm whistling noise when the turbos are on boost..have a read of my thread from yesterday lol Mine was the gasket between the turbo and manifold
-
Damn that makes me depressed, pouring all this money into the car when it gets killed by an Evo with significantly less power
-
Thanks guys Just picked up the car and it feels great again. Rob said some bolts were missing, some bolts not tight, hoses weren't in properly ahhh i just had to laugh. Now its time to save up for some ID 1000 injectors and a Hypgear turbo

Just an update guys! So after 2 weeks of being told the noise is my boost controller, then my turbo , then my actuator and dismissing that it can't posssibly be the gasket between the turbo and manifold, I dropped off the car to Rob at Sabbiddin Automotive to get the car checked out. I've had my car for their for mechanical work in the past and respect his professionalism. I just received a call from Rob just then and hey prestoooo...It's the gasket between the turbo and manifold, and that there's a bit of shoddy work from the previous work Regardless I'll be eventually getting a new turbo soon, but didn't appreciate the advice from the previous workshop even after telling him what was the problem. So just a shout out to everyone that helped and especially Daniel from Elite Racing I won't publicly name the workshop as that isn't appropriate & allowed and to a certain extent everyone makes mistakes, but I will say this workshop is in the South-eastern suburbs of Melbourne and is a workshop referred onto by one of the top Tuners in Melbourne that is regarded on this forum. to the SAU Community

Would it possible to plot the hypergear turbos all on the one graph? I.e. standard v highflow v ss-1 v ss-2 v the one his working on atm? Would give us potential customers an easier time to compare them

I'm paying about $750 p.a for Full Comprehensive with Just cars. I'm 26 with an agreed MV of about 18K. Can't remember what my excess is. When I first got my car at 22 the insurance was about $1,200.

Keep up the good work Stao, at first I thought i wanted your hi-flow then I saw your SS-1 now I'm waiting on this before I upgrade the turbo

Hi guys just an update Came back from the workshop and he said that it was likely the actuator on the turbo that is stuffed overboosting the turbo causing it to whistle. I advised him at first that it maybe the gasket between the manifold and Turbo so he opened the bonnet and reved it. He said if it was a leak he would have heard it. So we then went for a spin and at times the boost would spike to around 13-14 psi and make that whistling noise. When the boost only when to 10 psi it wouldnt. So his diagnosis was that since he had removed the boost controller and put the stock bits in and it was overboosting that it is probably the actuator that is stuffed causing the turbo to overboost and make that noise. Opinions please? Sounds plausible? Should I get another workshop to look at it before I decide to shell out for a new turbo.'as he said I just may as well buy a new turbo. Any help much appreciated

Cheers guys will definately get him to write everything down this Saturday Help much appreciated

Just an update I called the workshop today and I said it may be a Exhaust manifold or manifold to turbo gasket leak but he said it was unlikely. He explained, can't remember what he said because it was technical and way over my head in understanding, but he said the gasket that was replaced would have nothing to with the above mentioned leaks. I guess its hard to talk to someone when they speak technically, you have no idea what there talking about so you can't really argue anything response. In any case will be dropping of the car this Saturday and he will have a look at it. Will let you know of the results.

Sorry can't say i noticed that car
-
That was me coming back from Traction tyres rowville What car where you in?
-
Not sure which part of the gasket was replaced but on the invoice it says '3in' @ $32. My normal induction noise is a broad low suckin noise from the panel filter. But this noise is a high pitched noise coming from somewhere. Wil keep you guys updated once it's fixed and diagnosed
-
Yeah well this workshop was supposed to be my girlfriends family friend and has also been mentioned by a very reputable tuner on this forum. But yeah won't be going there after this is fixed. There were other very questionable things that had to be fixed which other workshops said shouldn't have. But no need to go into here. Lesson learnt I guess.
-
Not sure I had to get a road worthy certificate done due to a defect and he said there was an oil leak and exhaust leak so he said he had to fix a bunch of stuff
-
Cheers guys much appreciated will convey the message when I call the workshop tomorrow. The invoice says they 'replaced and reseale rocker cover gasket' & 'replaced exhaust gasket' so i'm guessing something wasn't put back together in the process. Oh well nobody's perfect and just human error i guess. As long as there happy to fix it for no charge then all is well i guess.

Hi all, My car is a 1998 R34 GT-T with a stock turbo FMIC, Nistune, Turbotech manual boost controller, and full exhaust at 12psi. Approx 145,000km. A few weeks ago I had my car inspected at workshop for a RWC, and the engine was looked at and they fixed an oil leak. Ever since the car when on high boost there would be a whistling noise coming from the engine. I took the car back to the workshop and he had a look at it and he thought the turbo was about to let go, but he pulled out the boost controller and conected the stock t pipe. When he did it the noise when away so we just thought it was a faulty boost controller. Now two weeks later the whistling noise has come back everytime it is on high boost, especially in 2nd gear. I just wanted some people opinions before I try call the workshop again next week as I am not knowledgable in this area and don't trust the workshop 100% and don't want to be charged a bucket load to get it checked out, or get something fixed when it shouldnt be. So im just curious is this a sign my turbo is about to let go or could it be something else? Opinions welcome, Many Thanks!
