My R34 Gt-T Street/track Build/diary

Engine is running strong and healthy, there is just a restriction somewhere else in the car. Likely to be turbo but will have a better idea in the coming weeks once we isolate other possible issues Yeah agreed 284rwkw is plenty for me at the track at the moment. Though Trent said as the turbo is working so hard the oil running through it is heating up the rest of the engine oil system. So I need to keep an eye on temps until I get a decent oil cooler. That and Trent said the choking of the engine at the high rpm range due to the restriction is not good for the engine. So I have entered Sandown 11 August for a test day and will just shift at about 6,000 rpm -
Yeah I think we need to all remember here, Trent was the guy tuning the car and will all the data and came to the conclusion that the turbo is a limiting factor Plotting the engine on a GT3076 compressor map also confirms this In saying that I will be trying to book in a dyno run sometime soon to run it without the cat back exhaust, airbox/panel filter, check the cooler system to see if there is somesort of restriction elsewhere I'm sure once I stick a bigger turbo we will get results and then we can have a tea party and all eat scones and butterscotch finger biscuits
-
But I already said I didn't want to go E85 I'm sure pump 98 fuel is not the limiting factor at the moment, plenty of people are making more power on 98 Octane
-
Trent did say the motor was strong and that it was something with the turbo causing the tuning problem something about too much back pressure on the turbo
-
Civic is a pos Didn't even start his morning lol I get what your saying that I'm a crap driver. Ain't no dispute in that But I thought whilst the head is off I may as well do it. *insert doitphaggot.gif* so in the future I wouldn't have to do it again if I decided to chase a crap load of power for the lolz. Know what I mean jelly bean?
-
Maybe one day when I can drive like Richo ill go e85 In the mean time pending on some dyno diagnoses I might be paying Scotty Customs a visit to fix any cooler/exhaust issues Or even a custom/modded airbox if that is a restriction Anybody know the restriction on a stock R34 GTT airbox with panel filter? As far as I am aware they are not as big as the GTR one and don't have a bottom/side feed
-
How do those turbo compare to say a GT3582? As i think on the compressor map that turbo was a better fit That makes sense Dave...i think haha It's still a street/track car, don't want to go e85 yet I do still enjoy long drives in the Skyline without needing to carry 4 x Jerrycans in my boot And if your going to mention a flex fuel setup, moneys tight when your married and got a mortgage
-
I have no idea what goes into this calculation but it was a couple of pages long and its a bit over my head, and I failed physics in highschool lol So this is the plot of my engine against a GT3076 compressor map that was calculated and given to me last night based on my engine
-
One thing I forgot to mention With the new engine, Trent had to take out 8 degrees of timing compared to the old engine, as any more it would be pinging too much. Fuel used was BP 98. Filled up only a couple days before hand

Here is a pic I found of my intercooler setup The U pipe that you can see at the bottom left is the return pipe. It's at quite a sharp angle
-
Also better pics of the dyno graph: Green is my old setup: stock engine + china manifold Blue: Is the forged ported engine + Brae manifold Everything else is the same
-
Its a normal intercooler just the attached piping is return flow Sort like this pic I found on google So if Scotty where to fix up some of the bends it might be better lol? As im going to assume its the angle of the bends not the length of the pipe that might be the restriction? Is hybrid intercoolers any good? Dont know much about them
-
Waiting on a reply from Trent to see if this could be the issue If so, Ill try find a dyno to run on this saturday with the cat back exhaust dropped Well it was more so done with the provision of future power, might as well have done the work while the engine was out, head off etc.. One day I might want to go T88 and 800rwkw
-
Its a 3inch straight through exhaust with a mid muffler between the cat and cannon Pretty sure it is. Stao can clarrify. I bought it late last year Nah Trent didn't drop the exhaust for a run. The dump pipe is a 1 piece 3inch pipe That's what someone else has said as well: Wouldn't a collapsed muffler or exhaust restriction tarnish the turbo coming on to boost? As it seems to hit 24psi pretty quick?

Yeah I might have to try a dyno run with the cat dropped hey Scotty and his e85, if there was ever an ambassador for e85 you would be it ! -

So thread update: Car got tuned but there is a restriction, copy from my hypergear post Trent said the engine was running good and healthy which is a plus. He said without the restriction I would be making a shitload of more power Anyone have any ideas on what causes too much back pressure on the turbo exhaust housing? Thought 0.82 rear housing would be sufficient? -
Can someone explain to me what causes too much exhaust back pressure? Finally got the car tuned today on a build motor Made 284 rwkw Specs are a built forged, ported motor. SS2 turbo internal gate. 98 octane. Brae manifold, 3 inch JJR, not car, 3 inch hks cat back exhaust. Trent said the turbo maybe a restriction. It had too much back pressure, causing the turbo to run hotter, and he couldnt run as much timing as he wanted too. Stao said I have a 0.82 rear housing so it shouldn't be an issue Car seamed to stop making power after 5-6k rpm Does anyone have any ideas? In saying that he said if I didnt have the restriction and it held boost I would be making ~ 330rwkw
