  1. yeh i had my suspiscion on the afm as well, however it runs fine so that kinda rules it out, but ill have a play around either tonight or tmorw. i sent him to my tuner today so hopefully he can give him some tips. would a clogged up aac valve do this? i dont think so, as the aac valve is only good for when cold right?
  2. thanks for the replies guys! well.. say ur idling in the carpark with the keys in the ignition.. after 10-30 secs it will struggle ALL of a sudden.. seems like the spark is there, the fuel is there but it stalls. seems like a sensor or something is all of a sudden... i will try putting on my stock bov tonight if i have time. i also have my suspicion on the bov but then im not 100% on it.
  3. hey all. mates got a 4 door r33 gtst which started stalling yesterday.. since he put on a dump pipe.. it only stalls when at idle, drives the same, a bit extra power. what happens is that it stalls after 10-30 secs of idling... otherwise it drives fine. mods: FMIC Full exh pod filter stock boost(7~psi) wasted spark setup HKS bov(working fine before) weve tried to unplug the aac valve, and that doesnt make a diff.. the lambda sensor is unplugged, it doesnt make a diff even if plugged in(as its only for fuel economy anyway) any ideas? weve tried resetting th ecu. all the plugs seem to be in place and nothing loose. Help??
  4. i reckn if youre going to go air/fuel gauge then go wideband...... One question - how much does it cost to have a wideband gauge installed? cos i want one installed in my 3325t
  5. pretty much theyre the same thing....... but the knock sensor WILL/CAN pick up other noises.. not only knocking.. iv heard many times the knock sensor picking up other rattling sounds coming from the engine... and it would give false alarms to the pfc.. also, it is very hard to hear an engine knocking...... unless if the levels are 80 or so.. its possible that youre hearing some other noises.. maybe misfire?
  6. hey man.. i know of the one youre talking about... maybe a hardware store or something along those lines would have similar springs?
  7. Hey all. since i put my splitfires, the boost creeps up to like 15psi(i back off staight away) in every gear.... so to try and remedy it, yesterday i took off the solenoid, blocked the pipe, and connected the w/g actuator to a positive pressure souce(at the J pipe).. took it for a spin, was a bit better but come 4.5k + and it went up to 15psi or just under... Now my bets on the dump pipe... why.. cos i think the flapper isnt able to open fully at WOT. which also explains why i didnt get boost creep before, as it was misfiring and not enough gases to flow through. So now im looking for a dump pipe... what do you guys use? a good one..? or any input as to why i could be getting boost creep?
  8. i get 12psi on the factory solenoid.... have you got the solenoid grouded?
  9. Farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrk man 3.5inch dump and a 4inch dump??? you sure the noise levels legal in your state??? i have a 3inch dump, 3.7inch catback and its f**kING loud. lol i wouldnt think its pinging tho... when you say low rpm, how low? as in under 4000rpm? it could be ur plugs... cos rb's run rich when more boost is added.. maybe clean your coils and check for cracks?
  10. hey man, how bad was the misfire? im in the same boat. i got fmic, full exh, and apexi pod.. running low of 8psi and hi of about 12-14psi and i get misfire on a cold night even on low lol misfires only after like 5000rpm tho.. otherwise the power hits like a rocket
  11. i second mad082 with my life. i would never use plats ever. theyre only good for engines where the sparkplugs are hard to get to. most of us on here have had that problem, spec with r33's. if you have access to a test meter, get it checked out.. from memory i think if the resistance is around 200k its ok.. if its around 8k then its faulty.. the coil packs.. id start with the simpler things tho, clean coils, spring, tape/silicone the coils.. chck for any arcing.. at night, take it for a hard drive till it happens.. lift the bonnet and give it a rev or 2.. check for any arcs.. if u see arcs then uv found the culprit!
  12. hey man. i was in the same boat.. i still get it on a VERY cold night or morning(5 degree air) it starts to misfire around the 12-14psi mark. i have R33 Series 2. stock turbo, full exh and fmic. trust me its your coil packs, just like mine.. i would gap the plugs to say .7 or .65 as someone else mentioned.. or you could try copper ones pregrapped to .8mm.. as coppers are alot better then the plats. and save up for splitfire coils. really. thats the way to go. im gettin mine for about 500 sooooon! EDIT - r33's dont hav a boost cut.. its more like a AFM cut, the afm senses too much airflow and the ecu retards the timing and dumps more fuel in to save the engine, causing it to lose loads of power.. which in turn WILL/MAY blow out the spark, because the sparks too weak..and there u have your misfire.. For now, dont worry.. im in the same boat as you so i know how it feels! i lost to a friggin B4 twin turbo cos of my misfire! damit. EDIT # 2 - have u cleaned out ur coils? and checked for any arc residue???
  13. lol @ keyboard cowboyz.
  14. i have the HDI fmic on my S2, and theres no way it fitted without cuttin a weee bit off teh front bar.. i think was about 75mm or so.. jst the bottom lip..
  15. this noise only happens unde very light throttle.. ie shifting at like 2500rpm or so..
  16. turbos get very hot by their sheer nature.. it could be the afm but i wouldnt place my life on it.. how bad is the jolts.... does it feel like a misfire? or more like a afm/boost cut(r33's only have afm cuts).. does it still jolt if u ease up the throttle while driving or if u only floor it all of a sudden?
  17. wont be the turbo. any sign of smoke? whining etc? i would chck plugs to see what cond they are in
  18. cheers so far guys. it only happens when i drive it in the cold.. its been around 2-5 degrees here lately so blooody cold.. thats it.. only for a few mins.. i checked all the fmic piping again last night.. all tight.. i doubt its the exh mani tho cos i never touched it.. i checked the turbo wheels for shaft play and it seemed sweet.. no play at all.. to be oversensitive, id say the bearings were a weee bit noisy but thats it.. i cud hear it when i spun the wheels with my fingers.. it boosts fine.
  19. NOTE: it is also getting very cold here in auckland. im talking below 10degrees cel. it must hav been about 2-5 degrees yesterday and this morning.. my mate thinks its the vortex thing happening with my powerflow filter? going to check for shaft play after work today. fingers crossed!!!
  20. hey all. happened yesterday and today.. theres something howling when driving for the first 2-3 mins. i normally warm my car up for about 2-4 mins.. the oil pressure drops from about 7bar to 4 bar and th revs dropped a bit.. like normal.. and i drove off.. careful not the get the boost gauge newhere close to 0.. shift at 1500 or so.. yesterday it howled abit more.. cos i didnt let it warm up.. only like 2 min warmup. this morning was kinda intermittant cos i let it warm up for jst about 4 min. im sure its not a leak as we tightened the fmic piping up properly.. i double checked it when i got home on the day of the install. it boosts fine tho.. no lag etc.. only happens when the cars coldish.. any input on what the noise could be?? kinda has me worried as the cars only done 85xxx k's and im the first owner. My mods: Full exh 6*3*80 HDi FMIC Apexi Powerflow Factory boost solenoid (low - 7, high - 12-14psi) NOTE: i HARDLY use high boost, if i do its only for a few seconds then flick it back to low. i hardly boost my car. no really.. i hope its not my turbo but something tells me it is.
  21. 3inch dump => 3inch front => 3.7inch through till the 5inch muffler. Still has a cat! sounds real deep tho.
  22. hey chicky i bought one of those.. straight fits.. taking the bumper off and cutting the hole and the front bar is the most daunting task of all.. you will need a nipple tho.... and fit it where the stock one was.. so taht u can retain the stock pipe taht leads to the w/g actuator.. pm if u need more instructions.. its piss easy..
  23. hey man. i just installed a HDi fmic on my r33.. didnt come with a nipple.. i jst drilled a hole and screwed the nipple in and used silicon to seal the sides.. (there was no leak anyway) that works sweet for me.. i got the factory solenoid to a switch.. ie hi/lo boost..
  24. hey man. im assuming its a R33? 1 hose goes to the w/g actuator and one to a positive boost source.. ie jst on the jpipe
  25. hey man im in the same boat.. only when its cold tho and i see boost over 14psi.. iv got full 3.7inch exh from turbo with 5inch tip, apexi power flow, 6x3x80 fmic and factory boost solenoid(hi/low) 8/12ish.. on COLD nights hi boost creeps up to about 14-15psi and thats the only time i get misfire.. and sometimes if the engines cold and if i give it some stick. i figure its my coils.. im sure its your coils as well.. to be honest.. save up for some splitfires aye.. get em for like 500.. till then nanny it or dont take it past 5-6k
