  1. Something I always say - spend the money you want to spend on a BOV on something ELSE.. you can pick up a Gizzmo mc-ibc for around the same price as the HKS SSQ.
  2. lol nice one birds. And i stand corrected about 5th gear - I assumed you meant staying in 5th and flooring it at the same time, doh!
  3. GTR = Economy?
  4. compression results arent that bad.. it wouldnt cause your issues tho maybe youre getting misfire?? Have you had a look at your plug condition? what happens if you turn the boost down?
  5. Split vac hose somewhere? and perhaps microtech senses that and is retarding timing to compensate? have you perhaps checked your timing using a timing light?
  6. Ditto!!!! I love it how people think my cars a non turbo(lack of badges and laggy turbo), Until i let it spool Birds - to be flooring, and losing 5th, wouldnt you have to be going pretty fast? Ie speeds well above 120k - speed where you would run out of road fast? I doubt people would be flooring much in 5th everytime. Personally, my liner is a daily driver.. and i get traffic everyday, so it doesnt make a diffy whether i floor it or not, cos traffic, so flooring it everytime i take my clutch out seems pointless - and utterly stupid lol(flooring in 1st/2nd everytime).
  7. My money is on the 33R, unsure how much you would be able to spend on mods after purchasing though. A more fun and effective option - Either R33 25t or R34 GTT - And spend around 5k on the engine and suspension. Its guaranteed to get you smiling everytime. The reason why i say that is because a few of my mates with stock R33 gtrs kinda get bored with all the traction. They ALL said that they had more fun and response in the 25t's they owned previously. However, if you decide to mod the R, funds permitting, thats just going to be another can of whoop-ass story! Clubby/HSV - Very nice, however you are bound to get bored VERY quickly. Maybe its their linear power curve. The sound of an angry Ls2 at full swing is sweet! Evo - theyre not so bad, however theyre in a different league. Theres just something about them that i dont like. However though, you will get MORE respect when youre driving a Skyline imho
  8. I have run goodyear eagle F1's 235/40/18 for 2-3 years now on 32psi and noticed VERY good traction. Havent noticed any uneven wear at all. I think 38-40psi is a bit too high - but i aint no tyre expert:) Just personal preference.
  9. lol. I have to agree tho, those sv6's are a good engine. I raced one too ages ago - when i had a massive misfire issue. and we were pretty even but he slowly pulled away. However, I could hear him fully revving out 1st and 2nd, where as I didnt rev much(around 5-6k only) Next day - took my car to soichi and found: * crap plugs * coils arcing * timing retarded to 12 instead of 15! * boost solenoid f**ked - causing massive creeps to 15psi. Now, after new plugs, setting the timing, taping up the coils, and adding my MS-IBC ebc, the car was a different machine. It pulls harder then my mates 200rwkw 25t. Now I just want another run with that sv6.
  10. I see your problem.. if you reseat your battery terminals, maybe then your popcorn maker will start popping.
  11. Hey ppl, I did an extensive search, however my combination of filters didnt yield much result! I know iv read this somewhere but I just couldnt find that damn thread.. Anywho - my issue is when i start her up in the morning or night, as im warming it up(2-3 mins max).. and If i blip the throttle ever so slightly, i feel a single misfire. It doesnt misfire anywhere or any other time.. Im running splitfires and .8mm coppers. When warmed up, no misfire when i blip the throttle, or when im nailing her I have a feeling its my AFM which i need to clean out perhaps. or the AAC valve perhaps. I was also thinking it could be the water temp sensor but im not sure on that.. Last i did a diagnostic on my stock ecu - 55. I dont have many mods.. just turbo/exh/fmic/ebc/cai. runnin 5psi. Cheers for any input peeps!
  12. I agree with GTRPSI al the way. I normally hold 60k in 5th gear but only on a flat road.. if i hear the engine lugging or something.. i always chop down. I once had my timing increased to 18.. and, if i remember correctly, i was using more petrol - but thats only due to the fact that i had a heavy foot But generally now that mines back to 15.. I think im sitting around 12.5-13 L/100ks
  13. Is it a track car or road? Do you always get heat soak? or just after a short drive? raising the rear of the bonnet will kind of help, ONLY if youre not racing that is.. ie on the streets. Why dont you take out the AC? Or perhaps run a few elec fans between the fmic and the radiator? The other question, is it a high mount or low mount turbo?
  14. I have heard a few 26 blow the stock turbos and end up needing a rebuild as a result. Something to do with the design of the stock manifold where theres less turns, which makes it easier for the shattered ceramic bits n pieces to travel and back into the chamber. Im sure there are a few threads on here with that happening.
  15. This is interesting, last time i filled up my car, the fuel gauge came back to E! lol. First it went to F, then came down to well past E. Then during driving, it crept back up to F. I could never figure out wat the hell is/was wrong. Dodgy sender unit you reckn? My one seems to get a lil bit more economy with my new turbo-mainly offboost economy. Im putting it down to the lag.
  16. Not bad at all, considering factory oem is around 170psi. Mine was around 165 across all 6 when i first got mine @ 76000k's
  17. +1 to all of the above. Other thing to note is that the r33 would be putting down a higher % of its power down to the ground then the s15, thus making it feel more linear and progressive. Both cars are an absolute jewel tho!
  18. Temp fix - Turn boost down, otherwise big bang theory for th 2nd time Long term fix - Invest in bigger injectors and a retune.
  19. Just replace the cap with an OEM item. The Nismo Items are good, however you have to consider that they are rated higher pressures, around 18 psi i think? As opposed to the stock which is 15psi? This will cause MORE strain on the radiator hoses, considering most skylines run the factory hoses which are rusty and "weak" and as a result, the Nismo cap MAY cause the pipes to burst/leak. Ideally if you changed the hoses to SAMCO or some other stronger item, the Nismo caps would be better. If you can, try opening the cover over the waterpump. If any sign of rust, then leaky waterpump!
  20. agreed completely. Over here across the ditch, driving at night in temps around 5 degrees, it takes around 10 mins to warmup. This is with zero boost and driving slow. Re- oil issue - its normal.. lol. i get the almost 0 oil pressure too but its normal. It could be when the engines warmed up, the increased temps in the oil sender/circuit increases resistance therefore affecting the measurements. Hook up another oil pressure gauge. If youre too worried - Its easy enough - just slip on a sandwitch plate and wire in the sender to it.
  21. I had a similar issue.. turned out the turbo's bearings were shot. I could hear the whine at idle especially.. Glad i have had it rebuilt now.
  22. what about the HT18 core and using a 47trim compressor wheel?
  23. def your starter motor.. i think i know the sound youre talking about.. I get that too.. for a split sec. that distinctive grinding sound may just need a clean out, or could be the cold weather. Over here in nz, it hits around -2 where i live. The noise only happens when i first start her up in the daytime sometime.
