Right in the middle of the tread, not near sidewall. Wear is near the markers though, will they care about this?

Hi all, Had a nasty shock driving to the coast yesterday, I was changing lanes to go around a car doing about 20k's under the speed limit, entered the vacant lane and CLACK CLACK CLACK I thought I'd had a blowout on the rear tyre, sounded awful! Pulled over and thankfully it wasn't running on the rim like I thought but rather a big metal hook (looks like a broken rubber tiedown strap from a truck or trailer) was right up the guts of the tyre. Pulled it off, cursed like all hell and replaced with the space saver (piece of rubbish...). I live and work in the Toowong area, is there somewhere cheap I can take the tyre to see if it can be repaired? I'd like to avoid buying more tyres at the moment, at 235/45/18 it's not going to be cheap. Thanks to all who can help.

What viscosity is the diff oil? Maybe try throwing some decent redline oil in it (if that's not what you're already running)

Really? Things may have changed but my flatmate in 2004 was tested by QLD Transport when his old Meteor was sounding very, very sick. They stuck a sensor up his tailpipe and measured the CO2 level... didn't realise most of the exhaust was emitted between the back of the engine and front pipe...

I run Shell Helix Ultra, about $50 for 5L - SR Automotive recommend it as Stu runs it in his ARC and Drift cars
