  1. Much better! Too bad I'd have no-where to put the damn thing anyway.
  2. I have my rocker cover off all the time, and never bother replacing the gasket. Until they tear they don't seem to leak. Repco do a cheapo (rubber?) gasket that'll do fine - and I bet it works out closer to 1/10th the cost of a genuine Nissan item. As said, don't overtighten that sucker. I'd probably just give your old one a little freshen up with some Hylomar (blue gasket spray) and not worry about replacing it unless it starts dribbling oil.
  3. Whip the rocker cover off and have a look for anything suspicious, and check your clearances with a feeler gauge. It's not a horrible job. My car was a bit down on power a fortnight ago, and a little noisier, and when I pulled the cover off I found that the rocker arms for no 6 had come off completely and were just bouncing around loose. I put them back on and the car is going much better, unsurprisingly.
  4. Factory is a bit off a loose term - it's a scrap metal/car removal business. R30s pop up sometimes, what are you after?
  5. You know it's weird, but I think I picked out a smashed car because it would be more work. Can't stand having nothing to do of a weekend. Andrew, I might not be back at the factory for a week or so, but if you can hang on I'll post that plug up then.
  6. All good. Would you believe that 2 r31's turned up at my mate's factory as scrap in the last 24 hours? Now have a series 3 front end and leftover parts galore. Score! Now... to register or race?
  7. Uh huh! Had a go at registering but failed. Can't register with a hotmail so now I'll have to wait till Monday and try again with the work email.
  8. Man this is embarrassing... I can't find the parts section.
  9. Car has a 5 spd in great shape and a nice quiet LSD too! Let me know if you find the radiator - I'll throw some cashola your way. Cheers for the tip with the s3 guards.
  10. Wow... that is a ton of cars. Will stick to Victorian sellers, out of convenience more than anything.
  11. Have been productive pulling off and scraping damaged parts, and less so with the pics. I need a complete front end: bonnet, bumper, front spoiler, driver's side h/light and panel, aircon fan and irritatingly, radiator (turns out the engine fan has nicked it after all.) I also need to pull the radiator support forward an inch, and are thinking of doing this with the assistance of a chain and sturdy tree. Still keen to repair, but not interested in spending a fortune. Anyone got a basket case series one R31 or spotted one at a local Vic wrecker? The rest of the car is lovely and I've have had a pleasant week poring over service history and getting acquainted with modern features I've never played with before like central locking and the Nissan headphones for the rear passengers. I have a month of permit to either get the car fully rego'd, club rego'd or retire it to the bush for punishment/stripping.
  12. um... ok. Pics up tomorrow.
  13. I'll see how repairing it goes first, before it gets a fate worse than death. Seeing mlr is so excited about it, Ill post some pics in a day or 2.
  14. So I had been in the market for a paddock-basher and stumbled across a front-end smashed r31 silhouette going cheap. Of course as soon as the cash left my hand I developed an attachment to it and now I'm not prepared to sacrifice it. I'll have a go at repairing it instead. Should have bought a hyundai...
  15. The bigger issue is that there are no more C210 LHD dashboards available. So any c210, coupe or sedan, will be sent over as a half cut, regardless of condition to supply parts to existing cars. Interestingly, Kuwaitis seem to prefer the 240k sedan to the coupe, but both are in super high demand, and go for serious money. The other interesting change in Kuwait is that previously no-one would put anything but an injected/Holley L28 in their early Skyline, but now RB conversions are becoming popular.
  16. I heard that it's being cut and sent to Kuwait, but not by anyone I know personally.
  17. What the hell??? Now up to $7,900. Very, very odd. Guess the old skylines have appreciated in value this week.
  18. They're wild. Do they come with the carby heat shield? Where did your L30 go? Did you put aside any other interesting bolt on stuff?
  19. Surely a max bid of half of what he was asking would come as a wake up call. When did anything pass in a $6000 in one week and sell for $11000 the next? Generally, relisted items work their way closer to a sale price of $0 with every auction that the item fails to find a home. I'm betting the the seller finds his pride and joy passes in for $5,500 this time around.
  20. The demand for complete 240k's is still huge in Kuwait, so I'd wager the car won't be stripped. It'll get registered in Dubai, converted to LHD, driven across the boarder and reregistered in Kuwait. According to the q8hp website it'll fetch around AUS$16000 once converted to a left-hooker and resprayed.
  21. Yep; the c210 hotplates in chrome fit; but require a centre garnish/numberplate surround, and the c211 hotplates fit, but require a centre garnish. You won't need to drill holes, everything lines up perfectly. In either case with the hotplates, you can recycle your old centre garnish with the ends sawed off, it just won't look as nice, and the badge on the lights will read 2000 GT-Esomething.
  22. Didn't meet his reserve first time around, so now one of two things will happen. A) He lowered the reserve, everyone bids the same and it sells. B) He didn't lower the reserve, but everyone tacks an extra $2000 onto their previous bid and the seller gets the money he wants. Wait a minute... C) He didn't lower the reserve, everyone bids the same, car doesn't sell again. It'll be interesting to see what happens this time.
  23. To get decent results out of import monster search the automotive section for chassis codes like GC210 and GC211 or 2000 gt. If you try seatrching for words, like skyline the results get lost in the translation. Also the garnish I mentioned previously is for the chrome lights, not your grey ones sorry. If you use your Australian centre garnish with the grey hotplates you'll have to cut the ends of the garnish off and it doesn't look so flash.
  24. They can also get horrific rust in the chassis at the firewall at the corner of the engine bay, near where the bonnet mounts. If the windscreen leaks the dashboard can also corrode badly, taking the firewall with it! The the metal clips in the rubber boot seal always rust - again often taking out the lip that it sits on - causing leaks, causing the wheel wheel, and hidy-hole for the tools and jack to fill with water, causing more rust etc... The bonnets rust really badly underneath at the front near the chrome trim. To answer JDM's question, in short rust is a horrific problem for these cars.
