Z32 300Zx With Vq30 Twin Turbo Conversion
Boosted Zed replied to Boosted Zed's topic in Motorsport Builds
After busting a head gasket at Superlap on the stock motor and finding it's limit, we are now bulding a tuff motor and increasing to 3.5 litre. Using Darton Sleave kit (closed deck) using VQ35HR head gaskets which are much better. This requires modifying the engines coolant flow and does away with the two rear thermostats, yes the VQ30DET runs three thermostats and high temp ones for emissions reasons, they open at 95 and 105C, crazy and not good for racing. We are using a VQ35 crank, modifying the block, forged rods and pistons. Whilst at it we have slightly ported and then polished them and domes. We relieved the dome to match the 95.5mm pistons up from 93mm. Also adding ARP main studs. We had everything Cryo treated. -

Where are all the tough GTR's in Sydney? Beaten by a grandfather in a boat, and a little Datto. Well done Wizard.

I can relate to Mark Berry's 400 hours spent on his front bar. Lucky I had two UTS mechancial engineers doing work experience here to do ours. Ready to be made in carbon fibre. -

We could only afford one set. Hey Russman, good to put face to the name. Also good time in your R32 GTS-T which I thought was a GTR. 1 min 42 is faster than 90% of local gtr's. About the times comparing Superlap cars to V8 Supercars, the V8's are obviously regulated and much heavier than most of the Pro class cars and designed to do lots of laps, but still.... -

Yes, fastest to use the whole track and make the track as long as possible, keeps momentum going. Also about the discussion comparing Superlap car times to V8 Superstars and GT3's, not sure if mentioned on this thread but these cars run on slicks, which are much better, and at least a second faster. Plus if these Jap cars ran on V8 Superstar budget and had top level V8 Supercar driver they would all be faster. Cyber's 1.28.8 is amazing and Eastern Creek tin top record, imagine on slicks and local track knowledge, gun driver? -

Yep strong motor, so more revs, as we were hitting the limiter on the start-finnish line, more power, less weight as still has factory steel tail gate and glass, then carbon wide body kit, so should be under 1100kg. -

Hankook TD Z221 are the go we went from 1min 39.0 with old R888 to new soft Hankooks and ran 1 min 35.23. Beer Baron I think next year Mark Berry might really be close to the fastest next year, once he lightens it with carbon fibre and more. -

Massive eventVery happy with the time and way better than I expected. Lots of challenges with the car. To add, we have not been to Eastern creek for almost three years. We recently made quick release Rose jointed inner rack ends, changing Ackerman steering angle, which we researched to fix under steer. Theory seemed to work, with 1.35.2 time we did. We only had one session with new tyres, Hankooks 2221 btw, and found tyre temps in theory too high in pressures being around 3psi too high, as we set cold temps a little high. Definitely a 1min 34 in it as is, just with more time and some adjustments. We popped the stock crappy head gasket that has NO fire ring and with open deck alloy block and sleaves, no real surprise. We know how to fix properly now and continue to develop the VQ, like we did with the VG. Big thanks to T04TR for his efforts and ability and to John Boston for his brilliant drive. -

Custom lightened flywheel (4.5kg) to suit 7 1/4 (184mm) twin plate motorsport clutch. This flywheel matches the VQ30DE with bell housing adapter and Z32 gearbox. 7 1/4 (184mm) twin plate motorsport clutch. My link -
Carbon fibre epoxy resin with sandwich foam core. It flexes because it has 200+kg downforce. We recently added an aluminium right angle gurney strip to the trailing edge of the main rear wing blade. This will stiffen it up a little bit, although the flex is not all bad as it creates maximum efficiency at low speed where it needs it most. At high speed as it bends it reduces efficiency but also less drag.

I should clarify, every car had numbers assigned to them but everyone supplies their actual sticker or tape.
-
NSCC day had numbers but not issued.
-
I was also confused with the groups to. When I was at the NSCC day at Wakey the day after, which ran very similar to SAU, although instead of coloured dots, they write with white pen a number from 1 to 5 on your windscreen at scrutineering, according to you and your cars times. 1 being the fastest down to 5. This made it so much easier to know when your session was coming up, rather than trying to remember when hearing the call for groups and thinking. For example. Ok yellow is out now and red is next I think then blue or was it green or?? Colours don't have order numbers do. NSCC did not however issue individual numbers for each car, unlike SAU- Renew which is very professional and handy. I kept my lime green SAU issued number 300, which was appropriate and easy.
-
Greg's black wide body S15 looked fat and fast, I will give him a run next one as The Slot Car was way off it's best, all new set up and got it wrong as understeered badly all day. I ran a little better at the NSCC day there the next day with a 1 min 6.1. Well ran day and nice weather. Well done again Michael Hill, faster again to. Wizard either your car needs corner weighing bad or you drive smoother and faster with females on board,LOL. I will be at the next one keen as.
-
I will be up for this. Yes been a while. I don'y have a thousand hp but hope to run a 10.
