  1. Either way you go, the engine has to come out of the car. If you can do this yourself, youre going to save yourself around $1500 in labour, but it is a bastard of a job and you will need several freinds and probably a few weekends if its your first time. As for places to check out the engine and rebuild it, my loyalty lies with pro engines, so of course im going to reccomend them Greg is a great bloke, does excellent work, and stands by it. I had a problem which wasnt related to how Greg built the engine at all (more so a "fault" of the piston manufacturer), however when he found it he fixed it up at little to no cost to myself. You will not find many engine builders who stand by their product to this extent. He may not be as cheap as some other places around, but all he does is build engines, thats his core business so you know your going to get a top quality job. Anyway thats the end of my shameless free plug Keep us informed of how it goes.
  2. How exactly do they measure the crankshaft and see if its scored while its still in the car? Granted it may be possible, but I sure as hell wouldnt trust the results. You are obviously looking for the cheapest option availible, I on the other hand prefer knowning that the engine has been checked completely and is 100% ok. Why did the bearing spin? Did it delaminate due to detonation? Was it oil supply problems? If it was oil supply problems, its impossible to check what other damage there may be in the engine due to insufficient oil and/or pressure. Im a big fan of do it once, do it right... everyone has their own ways though. EDIT: That may be all well and good for your GTI-R, but I forgot to mention, taking the sump off in the GTR requires a brace holding the engine in the engine bay across the top. Why? Because if it isnt there, the engine will fall out of the car. So yes, either way you go, it is an engine out job.
  3. You will save about $1500 if you can remove and refit the engine yourself... theyre absolute bastards and waste a lot of time. Basic freshen up would probably cost around $3000, going for some forged internals and a little bit of head work (which you may as well while its apart) could range anywhere from $4000 - $10,000 depending what parts you use. Ring Pro Engines and ask them. While the engine is out, you may as well fix the R32 GTR known problems, being the crank drive for the oil pump is too small, so fit a crank collar or get an R33/R34 crank, N1 oil pump, water pump, belts + harmonic balancer. Id be bugeting about $5000 minimum for something thats going to be "safe" at a bare minimum. Welcome to the wonderful world of the ReBuild26DETT.
  4. Im down for a right royal smashing as long as Beau comes so I can hack on someone
  5. leech_ is spot on, alot of the 15 yr old imports are time bombs waiting to go off (I know only 1 person out of 10 now that has bought one and hasnt had any problems... hats off to djhatton!). You will need to get the crank measured to see if any damage was done and how much. Its an engine out, strip down job so you may as well give the whole thing a freshen up and chuck a set of forged pistons in it (you can pick them up for $1000ish now). Im with Jayce, Pro Engines in Queanbeyan (www.proengines.com.au). They have done mine and quite a few RB26's and RB25's and all have come out excellent.
  6. Should still be higher, do a search im sure its been covered before.
  7. If it only revs to 5200rpm then you have a problem... I am pretty sure stock they rev to just over 7000rpm. I know the RB25DET is 6900rpm usually, and the RB26DETT is 8250rpm. I was pretty certain the RB20 revved higher than the 25.
  8. Youre a smart man Not evo either
  9. Spotted an absolutely gorgeous R33 GTR being tuned today. This thing was immaculate, and pulled 360kw at the wheels to boot. Owner is a great guy too.
  10. Yeah theres always people at the museum
  11. I clean my AFM's regularly (every second oil change) and they are not the problem. Its to do with the PFC, as one of the cars I know was fine, put a PFC in and it started happening straight away.
  12. There was a company in Melbourne authorised for repairing power fc's from memory. I cant remember the name of them, if you do a search you might find it.
  13. Gates Timing Belt - $99.00 from nismo.com.au
  14. Yeah I spoke to a few other people and they have had the exact same problem since putting a PFC in... seems like it is just a PFC problem and not much can be done about it.
  15. R33 GTS = RB20E R33 GTS25 = RB25DE R33 GTS25T = RB25DET

  17. I ran into aleko at Integra a few months ago, and all I can say is this car is clean. The owner also has his head screwed on with regards to modifications, and the car has never been molested. Definately the cleanest R34 I have -ever- seen... if you want an R34, buy this
  18. Know a couple of GTR's that have ran with them and seem to hold up quite fine (400kw+ at the wheels). The gears are -really- loud though (whine).
  19. Dave Smash Repairs in Queanbeyan... a few forum members have used that place and the result has always been excellent. Depends on how busy Farugia is as to wether or not they will take your car, their prioritys lie with the more exotic automobiles availible unfortunately.
  20. My car park shanannigans nazi ass will be out as always
  21. Did I say you couldnt control your crowd? No... I said the cruise organiser needs to control their crowd. I never said you didnt last week, was more so referring to future cruises you decide to organise. Its really simple... there are cameras in the museum carpark, we have often had police visits at the museum carpark because of people driving like wankers through it. All I simply said is people need to slow the f**k down through the car park... its not that hard is it really? Believe it or not you dont get any brownie points for demonstrating your show off valve capabilities through an empty car park... its actually pretty damn lame. How did I throw my weight around? By saying people were driving like wankers through the car park and I didnt like it? And now youre complaining because something isnt going your way? Bit hypocritical isnt it? Grow the hell up and stop having a sook just because a few people voiced their opinion. I didnt realise "SAU Forums" stood for the "Slither Australia Forums" where only you can say what you want.
  22. Hows it got out of hand? All anyone has agreed on is slow the hell down in the museum car park... not that hard is it?
  23. Simple is no-one should be driving like a tool through the carpark... then everyones happy.
  24. Hi everyone, A friends 180SX (1995 model, in immaculate condition too) was stolen out the front of his house in Forrest at 4:40AM Sunday morning. Car was joyridden and recovered not long after, but as you can see in the picture the engine bay was either deliberately torched or caught on fire. If anyone has any information can you PM me? Would be really appreciated.
  25. In my 10 or so minutes there saw multiple people flogging through the car park and the road behind it... *shrugs*
