Personal experience from quite a few places, Ed seems to be the most competent with the PFC. He hasnt popped my engine (yet? ), and has pulled good figures out of the car, on a quick and dirty tune.
If you want the -best- though, CRD in Sydney
Your theory doesnt sound too bad... when mine let go, I was giving it a flogging (as you do) and it was running fine. Lifted off the throttle for a second and then when i went back on the throttle there was no power and it was belching white smoke. Until I lifted off the throttle it was running fine...
Ah cool, I work just across the street at Infinite Networks (its in the building with a reflective front window on a 45 degree angle to the street between Paragon and Kell & Rigby).
From everything I have seen, it doesnt look like a GTR (no flared guards unless im not looking close enough).
I can pick up a couple of 19 row "oil" coolers for a good price at the moment. I am just curious, as the car is slowly getting to be a majoritly track driven car with occasional street use, if theres any gain in getting two extra coolers and using them as rear diff and transfer case coolers??
Granted the fluids would always be running through them, is there any down side to street driving with the transfer case and rear diff fluids always being cooled (I assume they would get quite hot being continuously flogged on a track)?
Also suggestions on mounting them... I have seen some Japanese based track cars with them mounted under the rear section of the car near the fuel tank. Would they get adequate cool air under the car??
Any info muchly appreciated
The girl works directly opposite me and I see the car every morning while im having my pre-work smoko. Will try and get a pic of it next week on my phone.
I dunno wether it sounds unhealthy or seriously modified... it definately doesnt sound like your average run of the mill RB25 though (to me it sounds like an RB26 with large aftermarket camshafts...)
Went for a strap last night... according to the aircon unit, the ambient temperature was 16.5 degrees. While cruising at 100km/h for ~10 mins the temp on power fc wouldnt drop below 33 degrees. After a quick squirt through 2nd and 3rd gears, the ambient temp wouldnt drop below 38 degrees, and quickly went up to 40 and sat around that the whole way home.
I take it that is 20 - 25 degrees above "ambient" its time for a new cooler? (was running 17psi and made 330rwkw in the same trim as I was driving it last night)
Whiteline dropped my car around 36mm from stock ride height. Used to be stock shocks and springs, now whiteline springs and stock shocks (which I have been told have been rebuilt and revalved harder or something? ive also heard you cant rebuild standard shocks.... however the cars been on many of those "suspension/shock test" machines, and it always comes up consistently fine as if the shocks are brand new)
Anyway heres a pic of my car with the whiteline springs on stock shocks and how it sits http://gtr.infinite.net.au/mygtr5.jpg
Mine gets hot too, but I noticed something the other day
Driving from Canberra to Wakefield I pulled the 4WD fuse to drive the 100kms in rwd. Reason for this is rear tyres have worn down a bit and the car is putting a small amount of torque to the front wheels while cruising at 110km/h (which ive been told is bad for the transfer case). While in RWD the gearbox tunnel didnt heat up anywhere near how hot it usually gets, so Im guessing its the transfer case thats causing most of the heat??
We stripped mine down and rebuilt it about 600kms after the turbo blew (and fitting 2530's) and there was no ceramic contamination of the internals what so ever.
Ive heard stories of it happening, but have only seen one person on these forums that has said and stuck by his story that it happened. Maybe we should get Myth Busters onto it?
It makes no boost because its leaking, and it blows a crapload of white smoke... or at least thats what mine did when the rear turbo decided to let go its exhaust wheel
Id still look into getting a hand controller... it provides valuable information, and next time something like this happens, you can just take 2 seconds to look at the hand controller and know whats going wrong.
Yep saw the 180GTR down there... looks "different" thats for sure
Red GTR is whytry on the forums, very sexy car indeed, especially when its got a wiper up
