I Smashed My Gtr Real Bad.
Amaru replied to MINES_DATSUN's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Just to form a different perspective on this situation... Im 20, im male, im a P-plater (off them soon), and I own an R32 GTR. Yes its fairly powerful, yes its got HKS turbos, and yes its pushing out 300+kw. When I bought the car I felt invincible, I was driving the almighty godzilla, and I had the mindset as this guy... its godzilla, you cant kill it. How that changed the first time I got in it and managed to get it driving without stalling it. Even just starting the car sitting in the drivers seat I quickly came to realise this was just like any other car... if you abuse it, it will bite you back, and the main difference is, it will bite back hard. While on my P's my main form of transport was my mums VS V6 commodore auto, of which I did alot of stupid shit in, burnouts, "skids" and attempting to drift it. In the process I have managed to crash up a gutter, blow the gearbox and stuff the brakes (and no im not proud of any of this). I am a young male, its common knowledge young males go out and try to show off and do burnouts and usually end up screwing their cars, in in worst cases screwing someones lifes. But this all changed when I got the GTR. I have loved them since 1991 at Bathurst, and have the utmost respect for them, I would never intentionally do something where I knew there was a high chance id stuff something up. Im also proud to say I believe I have changed/matured. Driving it home from Sydney to Canberra I pulled over on the side of the highway and gave it a quick "squirt" upto 110km/h (the speed limit) and realised quite how much power these cars have, and how easy it would be to lose control of one. I rarely drive the GTR, it comes out on weekends only, and when I do bring it out, I drive it quite sedately. High speeds and stupid attempts at high speed cornering should be left for the track, where theres no-one walking around, theres no houses, only alot of grass and sand to run off into. When taking the GTR out, it rarely sees above 4000rpm/60% throttle and if it does, it 99.9% of the time stays under the speed limit. I am also looking at booking into the advanced driver training courses stages 1 and 2 at Eastern Creek over one of the weekends in the near future, as I believe I need as much driving experiance as possible if something did go wrong while I was driving the car. But enough of the rambling, the main point of this story is... there are the odd young people out there with high powered cars that can excercise some restraint whilst driving on public roads and not being a complete dick. Its just unfortunate you're learning the hard way mines_datsun. And dont bother repairing the car, its a complete write off... you could sell the engine for $5k/$6k as its reasonably low km's, then bits and pieces here and there. But you made a bad choice when you went around the corner, its now your turn to deal with it and live with that bad choice. -
next thursday sounds good... pay day

I didnt see a thread up here about it, so thought id post something up. Wakefield Park are holding two open days this weekend on both Saturday and Sunday. From what I have been told you just rock up, $80 to go on the trackj if you already have a wakefield licence, $30 for a licence if you dont, and $20 for a helmet if you need one of these as well. Some guys from Canberra (granted not all skylines) are heading down on Sunday, so hopefully see you there

sxygtst I work in the shithouse building opposite where the car was parked, has a reflective front window and "Greenfrog Promotions" and "Infinite Networks" on the door... I work for the latter The 180 is also owned by a guy that works here. What color is your car sxygtst? I was out the front having a smoke in the afternoon and saw a nice black r33 go past, didnt catch if it was a S2 or not though.
-
Also spotted a silver R33 with chromies pulled up on the median strip just before Quix in Kingston... was gonna stop and see if you needed any help, but had to get home

In terms of insurance, im 20 and live in Canberra (premiums are probably around 10% lower than Sydney), and comprehensive insurance through Just Cars is $6600 per year.

Some wankers put oil down and as a result the cops shut it down and kicked everyone out.

Yeah sorry leech I tried to explain who owned what as best I could but dont think I was making much sense

what importer is the best
Amaru replied to letsgodriftin's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
What you see on the site is pretty much whats left over and not picked up by those on the "buyers" mailing list... basically, he finds cars, emails interested buyers (you pay $1100 for this), if none of those buyers buy it, it goes to the list. -
I might make the trip up from Canberra, havnt been on a big cruise as of yet. Will confirm closer to date and see if I can get a couple of other canberra skylines up.
-
Well ill be out again tonight from about 8ish, met up with a few SAU people last night, nice to meet you all and hopefully some more tonight including sydney people etc.

This happened to me back in September. If it happened a week ealier, I couldve sold you my one working stock turbo, but its already been sold, sorry From when I was pricing around I was quoted around the $800 mark per turbo to just rebuild and steel wheel the turbos (not highflow and no ball bearing). Rebuild, steel wheel and ball bearing to N1 specs was $2200 per turbo at GCG (ouch!). In the end I got a set of second hand HKS GT2530's that were rebuilt in Japan by HKS (not rebuilt to Garret specs). Id say to save some pennys and either go replacements like the HKS ones, or rebuild + high flow + bb your standard ones.

APEXi PFC = Bye bye Air flow meter?
Amaru replied to Guilt-Toy's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Yeah the Pro has launch control and ignition cut rather than fuel cut, thats the only differences between the power fc and power fc pro. You must run AFM's with both these models. The Power FC D-Jetro allows you to throw away the afm's and run map sensors. Or so I was told when I was looking at getting a PFC Pro... -
Apexi Power FC Commander Instruction Manual
Amaru replied to Muz's topic in General Automotive Discussion
As far as im aware there are none in english for the Skyline. The RX7 one is/would be almost identical, as all the functions and commander menus are the same across all models, the ecu just functions differently internally. -
Well tonight we will be grabbing Tammets car wash / Mobil early For those from Canberra, you should know where it is, for those coming interstate, there will be a couple of skylines, a gold pulsar gtir, my03 black wrx with vault krystals, and alot of other done up cars with "syndicate" stickers across the windscreen... come past, say hi, have a drink or what not
-
Thats cool, pop out Was out last night and discreetly parked down a side street (Mobil/Tammets was already claimed by the time I ended up getting there, which was just after 10PM), but was pretty good. Saw alot of Skylines im assuming were alot of people from the forums, a few GTR's ive never seen out before, and alot of v8's

AFP announced NATS blitz starts today 7/1
Amaru replied to blackdoggette's topic in General Automotive Discussion
There is an exit on the Federal Highway coming into Canberra a few km's before canberra labelled "Queanbeyan". You can turn off this exit (as its still in NSW) and come into Canberra via Queanbeyan (might add 30 minutes to your trip). There are no police at this exit (or there wasnt last night). You could also turn off at the Bungendore exit, and come into Canberra through Bungendore. There are ways in, just might add 30 - 60 mins to your trip here. Hope this helps -

You can be defected interstate, as whilst youre in that state you have to comply by their rules and regulations (so ive been told). If you get defected, when you go home you must get the defect for that state cleared (theres authorised inspection stations for each state in every city) or else they will fine you. Im not 100% sure on the above, but am 98% sure thats how it works (when some friends got defected in nsw with act rego). -
