A (lucky!) friend of mine was driving at a Nissan media day at EC last week. He had never driven on a track before and managed to hit 252km/h on the straight! Nissan let each driver have 12 laps each flat out with a passenger.

Hey Alan, I guess its too late for you but for the benefit of others, ABC Tyrepower on Botany road in Roseberry had a set of 235/45/17 KU-36s sitting in their shop for the last few weeks, not sure if they can get more stock right now but worth trying them. They were cheap to at approx $190 fitted per corner.

Dunlop Sportmaxx - Toyo T1r Comparison
siksII replied to rocketboy's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Fair enough.. also I would rather have the toyos on the rear since you will notice any difference in feel more if they were at the front. On another note, since you are an old man and all you might appreciate this hehe... the toyos are a very quiet tyre from when they were new and even when they were nearly bald, far better in this respect than the noisy sport maxxs! Let us know your thoughts on the t1rs once you have them installed -
Dunlop Sportmaxx - Toyo T1r Comparison
siksII replied to rocketboy's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
The main difference is in the feel.. its hard to judge outright grip, both have plenty (for street use!) The t1rs felt to have very soft sidewalls, there was a lot of flex in the tyre when cornering. This is at odds with confidence and sharp turn. The soft sidewalls in conjunction with the way that hicas works (i got rid of hicas since I had the t1rs!) the rear of the car had a wobbly sensation when turning in. Dry grip felt good, so did wet grip. In the dry I felt they were very progressive but in the wet the dunlops are definitely more progressive... however it might just feel this way because of extra feedback you get. Magazine comparisons rate the dunlops better than the t1rs and I have read a few that mention the sidewall issue with the t1rs as I have experienced. I dont think that the dunlops are worth waiting months for, but i do think you could do better than the t1rs esp considering they are not a cheap tyre. -
Dunlop Sportmaxx - Toyo T1r Comparison

Hey mate, I have used both... but I had the t1rs on the rear and have had 2 sets sport maxxs on front of my r33. 235/45/17 and 255/45/17. They are very different tyres. Big differences in many aspects but overall both are good street tyres. Without going into details I would most definitely recommend the sport maxx. The t1rs will be a downgrade if you are used to the sport maxxs. Ill be happy to elaborate further if you need! -
Need Help Selecting Tyre
siksII replied to PeNT's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I googled them before replying, I usually find the Aussie sites pretty lacking... often the US sites have more info so maybe try them in the future.. As Abo Bob says, if you are worried about wearing out, the price is pretty relevant too.. Im guessing the prices would be pretty different across those models. -
Need Help Selecting Tyre
siksII replied to PeNT's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
If you are really worried about the treadwear then consider at the treadwear rating: KU31 - 320 DZ101 - 300 SS595 - 240/260 depending on aspect ratio HPZ - 300 So looks like the 595s would wear the quickest, and the others would be similar. Out of those I have only driven on the DZ101s and they are a good street tyre, in 255 on a stockish car you wont have any traction issues. -

Finally It Gets Thru Compliance And Is Tucked Away At Home

Awesome car! Nismo super coppermix twin plate clutches definitely rattle, so thats normal. -
Hey guys.. One thing it might be that I dont see mentioned is the steering wheel has a piece of metal that absorbs vibration mounted inside it. This can fall out of its mounting, then when you turn the wheel one way or another sometimes it will clunk over to the other side of the steering wheel. Sounds like it might be what you are feeling. Found the related thread on how to fix it: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/No...ing+wheel+clunk

I used them on the street and track, with standard and slotted rotors.. never any squeal. I reckon with most peoples squealing problems its a combination of factors related to the particular car along with that particular set of pads, making it hard to blame either the car or the pads hence being bad luck! If you have tried other options then I guess your best bet might be to try another pad! Good luck, I dont envy your position. If I had to buy one of those 3 pads, assuming the reds and the 2500s are similarly priced, I would most definitely go for the 2500s.. excellent street and occasional track use pad.

Hi Trav, Ive used a few sets of TS2000s and they have never squealed.. on the other hand a friend recently swapped a set of DS2500s from one car to another. On the original car they didn't squeal, and on the latter car they squeal horribly. I reckon its a bit of bad luck if you are stuck with a squealy set of pads, not sure spending the $$ on a different set of pads will fix the problem.. maybe worth a go if you have tried other options but I wouldn't bank on it solving the problem since im pretty sure the TS2000s are not an inherently squealy pad.

Brake Pads Users Ratings Guide
siksII replied to Snowman's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
jetpilot I made it very clear in my posts that they are great as a street pad for normal use on car like a turbo skyline, and good value too. Just not for hard driving. Opinions are great to take on board when making a decision, and I took yours and general opinion from around the net on board before trying the pads. The Soarer review is a good read and im sure race magazine is too, however since im not 13 years old I will take my own experience any day over what some random with a Soarer that needs to brake with two feet has written on the internet, or what some journo has written in a magazine. Im not doubting your rally experience with the pads are fine, nor that some clubman competitors are happy with the pads. Keeping that in mind, are most who buy these pads from your recommendations on this forum using them for rally or clubman racing? More likely, they have a mildly modified r32/r33 full weight street car with street tyres just like me, and im sure if they tried Lucas($70) ultimates($100) Formulas($150) in close succession then from a performance perspective they would rate them in price order just as I have found. You need to read my posts since you have missed the point, mentioning race pads etc. I asked for a direct comparison or ranking of the lucas pads along with other street pads from jetpilot, which he has given. In my experience after using all in the same conditions, he is wrong. I was directly comparing the Lucas pads only to other street pads I mentioned. I have been happy with the performance of the other street pads I mentioned, I dont need race pads for the street. The Ultimates and Formulas(Several sets) were clearly better in the same situations in which I used them. The only pads I have ever overheated on the street over and over again are the Lucas pads. They continue to disappoint as a "performance" pad for the street driven skyline. They are fine as a 'normal' pad for a street driven skyline. Like anyone, I love a save a bit of money, and was really hoping these pads would live up to their big claims of fighting above their price bracket. I wrote up a unbiased opinion on the pads directly comparing them to other popular pads I have used. I hope what all three of us have said helps people to make up their own minds. -

My review is fair, unreasonable and unbiased, only difference is that you dont agree with my opinion. From the Soarer guy: "the Lucas pads handled 30 minute sessions pretty well, most importantly the performance didn't markedly deteriorate over the length of the session." A few paragraphs earlier: "The pads handled it well, they didn't totally give up like the OEM's, but they did get a bit weaker as they got hot. I ended up using two feet on the brake pedal" Enough said. -
Tyres you use(d) and how u would rate them
siksII replied to ZigenGT's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I have not used them, but know a few people who have, only on the track though.. I have heard that they perform well as a R compound tyre. There seem to be a few of them floating around second hand. Has anyone used the Kumho KU-36 (Ecsta XS) ? http://www.kumhousa.com/tires/passenger/ul...ormance/KU36.do They have a 180 treadwear rating, and are comparable to the Falken RT-615 and similar. Saw these for $188 for 235/45/17 seem like a good price for that style of tyre. -
Its not the safest place to park, but its not bad. I would leave my car(r33) around there. If you have an r34 gtr or something that stands out heaps then maybe not. As long as you hide valuables I doubt anything would happen to your car. If i park there I try and get as much of a publicly visible spot as possible to reduce risk.

Brake Pads Users Ratings Guide
siksII replied to Snowman's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Hey mate, I strongly disagree that you will not fry these on the street, thats plain wrong. I bought these pads on your recommendation and the misleading comparisons you made. As per my review earlier, I am using them with fresh fluid of the type I have used without any issues on the street and with several types of pads for nearly 4 years. I use braided lines slotted rotors and always keep my brakes well bled. These are BY FAR the worst pads I have used and while they will not overheat in normal driving, they easily overheat after some spirited road driving. They have consistently overheated for me since I got them. You say these are comparable to DS2500s and this is completely untrue. From a performance perspective these pads are rubbish even compared to Bendix Ultimates or Ferodo Formulas, and I wouldn't even bother comparing to DS2500s. Im sure if you had used all these pads on the same car, on the same roads, with the same braking system then we would be on the same page. I wish you were in Sydney since I would be happy to set the Lucas pads on fire for you at the end of a good road Sorry for the harsh reply but I wouldnt want others to believe what you say about these pads, and purchase on that basis as I did. They are a cheap pad and they perform accordingly. -

Hey mate, not having a go but I find it hard to believe the Lucas pads would survive hard track use, they overheat quickly for me with hard street use. Its been a while since my initial review on these and they consistently fade and overheat with hard use. What other pads have you used on the track so we can compare? -
