They dont suck, they perform as they should for their intended purpose and price.. if you want a performance tyre, then they are the wrong ones.... There are good toyos but they cost more and have different compromises... T1Rs are a good performance street tyre and toyo make R compound tyres for track use too.

Hey mate Firstly, this is in the wrong section, the tyre thread in Suspension, braking and tyres is the place for these questions. I have had a set of these tyres, they are very average tyres for wet and dry use. They are ok for street use, nice and quiet and last ok but are not really a performance tyre, so you can use them at the track but they wont be any good, and you will probably destroy them very quickly.

On some corners i wish i had something that would suddenly remove kgs from the rear Yeah im aware, but personally i would like to have the limits high, telegraphed (a little at least!) and predictable! Im sure even race drivers dont like their cars to be a threatening drive.. So who apart from Ant97GTR has succeeded in making some real improvements to the aero of their car?

Thats sort of my point. I personally dont see those little lips as 'wings' ie on the M3/M5 etc, i know they provide significant downforce but its the design of the body that allows them to be so effective. Ie. if you attached those lips to your r34, im sure they would do next to nothing, so its not really the wing on its own that does it. I love how the air intake on one side of the Murcielago is bigger than on the other side. Looks awesome!

I dont think any of the cars i listed have wings, although i im aware that some supercars do have wings that come up at speed such as Porsche 911, Carrera GT (My fav) and Bugatti Veyron. Are you sure any i listed have wings that rise up... I didnt think they did. I knew someone would bring the CCX up Im reckon they could have designed the car to create the downforce it gains with the wing.....without the wing if they wanted to but didnt to keep the top speed higher.

Thanks mate, i made a lot of calls and weighed up the options for many hours before making up my mind.. Im really indecisive. The only other option in between the Formulas and the DS2500 is a new compound by Bendix called the SRT. They are about $250 and are meant to compete with pads like the DS2500.. I dont know anyone who has used them yet. FYI the Ferodo Formulas have COF of 0.46 where DS2500s are 0.50, not much difference.. although the pads are made in different places so i think there is a bit more too it than just the COF when comparing the two pads. -
Canards look awesome! In terms of the wing having the most effect.... im not so sure. I should at least read that article before commenting, but a lot of modern supercars do not use rear wings, or use very small read wings. I guess with some cars the whole body of the car is designed to produce downforce, but i also assume that a lot of the aero of handled by the front/rear diffusers and undertray of the car. Examples of supercars that were clearly designed with aero and downforce, but with no rear wing: Lambo Murcielago Lambo Gallardo Ferrari F430 Ferrari Enzo Koenigsegg CCX etc etc. If the rear wing had more effect than anything else why dont these cars use one? I know they all produce some/lots of downforce without rear wings. I guess when looking at cars not designed with much aero in mind like ours, a wing could make the biggest difference, but i have doubts.

Yeah of course, hence nearly any stock car tending toward understeer more than anything else. I find that what makes the pants really brown is when you get out of shape in a car that has safely and easily found limits since when your in a dangerous deathtrap you sort of clench continuously getting ready to be thrown off the road lol With all this talk of downforce, how about some discussion about lift? I dont know much about aero, but i hear that keeping air from getting under the car helps stability.. Maybe modifications to this end would be more realistic for most of us rather than trying to create high downforce with ricey gt wings :laughing-smiley-014:

Something to consider....From an article i read in CAR magazine: Whilst speaking to one of the R34 GTR engineers from Nissan the guy said that they could have set up the GTR to have more downforce but they didnt want lots mainly due to the fact that once traction is broken through a corner, if they car was relying on grip produced by downforce, the more downforce the more sudden and violent the loss of traction. If you somehow got your GT wing producing big downforce and consequently grip i think this would be something to think about.

For heavy street use i would recommend Ferodo TS2000 aka Formula. I have looked around for a pad that performs somewhere between say Bendix Ultimates and Ferodo DS2500s and the Formulas seem like the best compromise. Ultimates are about $100, Formulas are around $180 and DS2500s are now ~$290 (retail prices) For light street use there is not much between those three pads.. For hard use the Formulas are a lot better. DS2500s are not worth the $$ unless you are using them for track work as well. I would avoid using Ultimates again just for the fact that they badly destroy rotors. The Formulas are much better in that respect. -
The pads i posted were never used on the track.. Apart from that one side, the other pads had about 2-2.5mm left, ready to be changed. I guess i shouldnt have tried my luck... i got them pretty damn hot and i figure the remainder of the destroyed one overheated and tore off the backing plate 51jay mate, you did a good job on those ones pictured, very impressed!

I have been using Ferodo TS2000s (aka Formula), they lasted me 9000kms of street only use. On the weekend the last bits of one of the pads came apart and for a short period on one side i was braking with metal on metal. The backing plate ate into my new disk.. it should machine out but has taken some life out of the disk. In terms of performance the Ferodos were great, quiet when cold, noisy but very effective when hot with great modulation and pedal feel. You would have to push very hard to experience any fade on the street with these pads and new fluid. I got approx 17000kms out of my last pads which were Bendix Ultimates. Taking into account street/track, car, model of pad....how many km does everyone get out of their pads?

Do it one at a time and dont let the master cylinder run dry (keep filling it) otherwise you will have to start again. -

No p plates on that one but i have seen and unmarked blue commodore S with p plates once driving aggressively from southern cross drive into the city.

Saw an undercover white XR6 a week ago with blackout tints with those flower stickers on the rear window, and a single flower above the badge. He had pulled over a car on Chalmers st in Surry Hills.

I installed the lock bar and it did not make the steering go heavy. I was worried that it would happen, and there were no clear answers on the forum, so very relieved when the steering felt normal after installing it!

As long as the diameter of the tyres are the same you can use different width rims front and rear. When you look for tyres you can make sure of the overall diameter by looking up the diameter as listed by the manufacturer on a specified width rim. Not sure about the PP version, im pretty sure you can get the PP version of the S03 locally. With the re050 and A versions, the A version is the one i would want, it is described as the more aggressive version that i read about in a recent tyre test, and is the one used OEM on a few fast cars. -

The best street tyre that Dunlop sells in Australia is the sport maxx, it is a newer and better model than the sp9000. I assume you figured the sp9000 was better from reading the Dunlop aus web site.. its crap, misleading and incomplete like most Australian tyre manufacturer sites. In that tyre test you posted, from memory the sp9000s were the control tyre, and were outperformed by most of the new tyres in the test.. in the following year's test the sport maxxs came 1st overall. (see attached pic) The s03s are way overpriced, and the last tyre test i read rated the Bridgestone re050a as best tyre. I know the s03s have been around for ages and not sure if they improved them lately, i know the re050a is a newer design and i assume that is a better tyre. If you ring Bridgestone Australia they will probably be able to tell you for sure. Versions of the re050a's are used on Ferrari Enzo, some AMG models and the new SS Commodore, if the S03 was still the best model im sure thats what would be on those cars instead If you dead set on Bridgestones i would say at least consider for the re050s and dont get ripped off buying the S03s, so not worth it! I have a gps device in my car, it shows that the speedo at 120km/h or less is near on perfect, with correct tyre sizes it shows dead on the right speed and with the 245s which are 3.3% too big it shows about 3km/h too slow. (both when the tyres were brand new) The speed reading from the powerfc on the other hand always displays a slightly slower than actual speed, seen this on friends cars as well. -

I think that all the higher end bridgestones are overpriced, and if those prices you quoted are 'specials' then that proves my point There are a few similar tyres that you can get for a fair bit less. Dig up motor magazine tyre test but off the top of my head but if i were looking at that type of tyre ring around for: Dunlop sp-sport maxx Falken fk-452 Falken rt-615 (higher performance worse treadwear) Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 All of those tyres have similar performance to the S03 but cost less. Tempe has the 615s in 225/45/17 for ~$275, and you can get the sport maxxs for a good price right now from a few places in 235/45. -

Yeah ~3% is not enough to bother me either which is why i went for the 245/45s... and as you say speedo only has to be within 10%, but i dont believe that the stock 33 gtr tyre size is 235/45/17 i am sure it is 245/ either 40 or 45 as mentioned by t04gtr. Speaking of wrong compliance stickers i have one on my own car, it states that 255/40/17 is a standard size. -
Steering Pulling To The Left?

Mine does it too even with the alignment perfect. I have all standard alignment bits, with toe set to 0 at the front and -2mm each side on the rear with hicas removed. Everything is even side to side. Im sure its the car following the camber of the road, and i think the wider and stiffer tyres you have the more it will do it. Although, if yours pulls to the left when driving on a road sloping to the right i would say something is wrong, thats pretty extreme! I really doubt that hicas has anything to do with it in most cases, it only works at above 60ish km/h, below that it stays centered. If your rear toe is uneven or set way off what it should be then the hicas will just make the problem worse when cornering at high speed.
