  1. put simply, all the first number means is that the oil can be pumped through your engine in as cold conditions as a single grade oil of the same first rating can be pumped. the second number is the viscosity at 100degress, so a xW-30 is the same as a single grade 30 oil at 100degrees. i dont really understand what your trying to say with the thrashing vs protection examples but both of those thickness ratings have little to do with protection. you need an oil that provides flow that the engine was designed for at operating temperature so the second number is really what matters. breakdown at high temperature and protection from metal to metal contact cannot be judged from the two numbers.. some thin oils offer better protection at high temperatures than thicker oils. read these sites http://www.vwtrendsweb.com/tech/0304vwt_sy...oils/index.html http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/ u can see the protection they offer from the charts with their specifications.
  2. No, this plan was not Harold's idea, his plan that i made reference to was in relation to having unsigned speed cameras. Thats just stupid since they are apparently there to slow people down in known dangerous spots. This one strike rule was put forward by the NRMA, i would have thought they were smarter than THIS!
  3. This guy has a good point... Instead of just me being egged on by mates in my car, we will take all 3 of our cars together and have street racing on the way!!! Awesome!!!
  4. Unigroup gets my vote. Was tuned but super rich @155rwkw when i dropped it off, no change in boost and power was up to 185rwkw when finished. Final AFRs are between 11.9-11.6 between approx 4000-7000rpm, i asked for a rich safe tune which is what i got.
  5. Update... I have been too lazy to post, but I got back on the 27th of December, the trip was awesome, barely any rain, and sometimes nice and overcast so less direct sun Ill start a new thread once I have all the pics organised, heres a pic to start with Wont be seeing many of these around anymore!
  6. I worked it out a long time ago, but his new plan like all his others just reminded me of why he shouldn't exist. Hate is a strong word, but I think I hate Harold Scruby, and although it feels so wrong, I sometimes wish he would just get run over and his stupid Pedestrian Council of Australia permanently destroyed.
  7. $293 is not a bad price for the T1Rs in that size, i would go for it. I spoke to a toyo rep at the toyo stand at sydney autosalon this year about the proxes 4, they said it was a compound with less grip that would provide more mileage than the T1Rs which last reasonable long to start with. So if you are prepared to give up some grip for tyre wear get the proxes 4, if it were me i would get the T1R for sure.
  8. One offence that p platers are often charged/hassled for is not displaying p plates. This applies when they are not visible enough for the cop that is looking, so even if the plate is obscured enough to annoy one, you can lose a demerit point and your entire license. That will really keep those dangerous p plate non displayers off the road! I feel really safe now! That is one of the stupidest things yet! When will these retards come up with something that may work!!! From that article: "P-Plate deaths for 2006 increased by almost 30 per cent to 94 from the previous year, which recorded 73, according to the roads authority." From those stats, im really confident that this new plan if you can even call it that will work, stupid twits. In addition to that, i would like say that due to his recent plan Harold Scruby is a foolish and stupid idiot.
  9. dammit!! i guess i got a bit rorted! should have looked there to start with
  10. I had this problem when i first bought my car, as soon as i shielded the pod filter it has never happened again and its been a long time, so shield the pod, or if you dont have a FMIC put the stock airbox back on with its standard cold air scoop.
  11. manwhore, i think he is talking about the rubber strip that sits between the plastic clipped on bit and the windscreen. in relation to the rubber strip, wait till its a warm day so its soft, then stretch it out and glue it back in place with epoxy or any type of glue that should hold. mine cracked so i got mine replaced at a windscreen shop, it was not an original part as nissan told me that you can only get the rubber strip complete with the plastic part, which was more than $200. the windscreen shop used a jaguar part, they glued it in for me and charged $40.
  12. I wouldn't risk it as pick up is not available. Very cheap but may be too good to be true.
  13. its just a worn synchro, the vast majority of skylines are crunchy into at least a couple of gears, simple solution to the first question, just learn to double clutch perfectly into 1st from 2nd and u dont need synchro or a new gearbox, mine is the same.
  14. I have noticed those goodyears seem to always come up best in most tests since they were released, however people who use them dont seem to rate them as highly as the tests would have you believe. This leads me to think that maybe some of the testing companies are paid off by the tyre companies, i wouldnt fully trust those tests especially the US ones. the motor mag test was too brief for my liking this year too, but the motor and wheels magazine tests seem more legit to me than some of the US ones. For peoples info, called tempe tyres and they will sell falken rt615's in 255/40/17 for $300 each atm, not a bad price at all.
  15. Went to Kenta in Neutral bay last night for the first time, i had the teriyaki chicken special dinner which is: teriyaki chicken with cabbage, tofu, plate of sushi and some miso soup and O M G i have never had a meal that large for that much money. it was $16.90 and i can safely say that anyone will be full afterwards. the sushi was good, i would say the chicken was way too salty and left my tongue burnt. the sauce was like salty paste glue. the meal was so salty and large that i was in a dazed state for 2 hours afterwards, and took down litres of juice and water. dont eat that meal if you want to do anything useful afterwards as most body functions will be temporarily disabled due to all energy being used to digest and process the salt. so IMO a massive but not that nice meal. that said i would definetly go back because i am a huge pig and can forgive average food if it is huge and cheap in a direct comparison with sushisuma's equivalent lunch combo, sushisuma wins hands down, it is a bit smaller but still a big meal that could feed two average people, and much better chicken. MUCH better
  16. mx-5 and s15 both 6 speed. only thing is that sometimes the extra gear has me confused and i dont know what gear i am in for a split second
  17. i have used both quiktrak and ezitrak (http://www.ezitrak.com.au/) and i prefer ezitrak. ezitrack is around $1300 installed, not sure about if you have it commercially monitored but if you self monitor you only pay for mobile plan and call charges. (~$9/month plan is fine) just some food for thought, if you use a company monitored device the company are not allowed to tell you where your car is so if it is stolen, the onus is on the police to find it in time, and you will not be told the location. if you choose quiktrak which does not use GPS have a good look at coverage maps, as in NSW coverage is limited to metro areas.
  18. i donated maybe 1.5-2 years ago through paypal and it was never recognised in any way, i mainly wanted my PM box increased and i asked a few mods and emailed Christian about it several times and never got a reply.
  19. Finally uploaded pics if anyones interested http://picasaweb.google.com/arup01/SydneyAutoSalon2006
  20. Bendix ultimate, less than 20,000kms, one track day only. the pads have approx 2.5mm pad material still left.. as a guesstimate when new they were about 15mm thick. I bent the damn indicators back with great satisfaction to finally shut them up i have new discs and ferodos waiting to go in in any case
  21. Thanks heaps for the advice, we will try and avoid driving at the bad times altogether I want to go quad biking!!
  22. I take this comment back. Pulled off the pads today and it was the wear indicators. They start touching when there is still maybe 2.5mm of pad material left, i cant believe the pads ran out so quickly in any case, the drivers side has been touching for a while and the passenger side is starting to touch.
  23. Some pics of the only Z-tune in Australia at the Sydney Auto Salon
  24. Thanks for the reassurance! So im assuming you live in NT, whereabouts in NT are you? I have a rough idea of what we will be doing for at least half of the 8 days we will be there: Alice springs, Uluru, Kings Kanyon.. Not sure about the last 4 days. We will have our own car the whole time(not 4wd), and are prepared to camp if necessary. Any ideas?
  25. i get the same noise all the time apart from when i am using the brakes reasonably hard. Mine make it from the front right as well, and you can hear it from a car in the next lane going 70! my pads still have heaps of meat, im assuming the pad material for some reason has gone funny and is making noise agaisnt the rotor?
