  1. it is normal at around those revs at 10psi with your mods the ecu will run rich and retard ignition timing, it feel like the car suddenly does not want to rev out, right? i have pfc but when i tried the stock ecu this happened to me too. try running less boost, until its low enough so u dont hit the r&r point, the car will go better than when running low boost and no power at higher revs as your car is running now.
  2. hey ill have a look for u soon and post it up but i can tell u now it is not anything fancy, but works well.
  3. i run no more than 10psi (with pfc) with stock ecu u can run whatever u want higher than that, u will find the the ecu will run rich and retard the timing so running higher than around 10psi boost will make u less power anyway so no point. as an example, atm my air flow meter(stuffed) reads too high, so my stock ecu goes r&r even at 8psi, however it cuts in much earlier at 10psi, so the car actually runs better at 8psi than 10psi.
  4. getting back to the main topic, as someone else said, if the motor is from a 94 model, it should be blacktop. also as mentioned there is most definetly some 96 model typ-s (non turbo) 180sx's around. stick with the skyline if u value comfort and interior quality, get the 180 if u like more straight line speed, and ur ok with old style interior/exterior design and more rattles. also keep in mind 180's are generally in worse condition than r33s. i have looked at HEAPS of both in the last couple of years and out of all the 180's i saw, there was literally only 1 clean one, wheras the ratio of good/bad r33s was higher. so in the end just because the 180 is cheaper to buy and cheaper for straight line speed, u may end up paying lots for maintenance.
  5. it is definetly a factory colour, i have a 96 gtst that colour, and had another 96 gtst that same colour in the past too. its not common, and only comes on series 2 r33s, the series one red colour is darker.
  6. too bad it wasnt a p plater! and some hard work involved if as richard said if it really was a non turbo!
  7. i considered and looked closely at lots of 180sx's after having an r33, after finding one i wanted (96 model type x) i had a drive and just didnt like the way it drove, and how it felt really old 80's style, and how it didnt feel as stiff as the r33 etc. so i bought another r33 also 15500 isnt cheap for 91model dont expect to make money on it
  8. ok i put the boost down to 8psi and it goes rich and retard, but at 6000rpm instead of at about 4600, the afm has to be reading high otherwise the car shouldnt go into r&r at only 8psi with my mods. also with the stock computer compared to the pfc when i back off there is a lot more popping from unburnt fuel in the exhaust. ill be trying another afm soon ill see how that goes
  9. saw that one too dont really like the look of it
  10. must read facts about magic cats: http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/index.p...howtopic=101300
  11. hey i have not tried to wind down the boost yet, but i am sure my AFM is stuffed anyway. with the stock ecu it does not idle properly, it hunts and idles high most of the time, then goes into r&r after 4 grand and sometimes switches off the pfc seems to hide the problems better than the stock ecu so yeah i need a new afm AND probably a retune, so i dont even know if i will bother playing with lower boost!
  12. hey, i have an aftermarket kit in my car, it was fitted by the previous owner. i cant remember the brand name, but i have seen them for around $200 it would have been in there for a few years now, and i have used it many times, it works really well and is smooth when regulating the throttle.
  13. i have heard that usually best bet is a weekday since less people come, but i guess is depends.
  14. do heaps of people usually turn up seeing its a saturday? will it be very crowded?
  15. yep sounds like we have similar problems it has to be the stock ecu as mine is fine with the pfc plugged in untill i can get a retune, i might turn the boost down a bit to see if the problem with the stock ecu dissapears(as im assuming it will, as it did in your case)
  16. i would be very interested, have done this once before, but did not go all the way before turning back, was out from 1am till 8am the next morning, fuelled by a large amounts of krispy kreme donuts
  17. another late addition: i believe the tune of my powerfc is way too conservative/rich as injector duty cycle reaches 98% at around 6500 and the car runs a much slower mph(8-10mph) and slow time when compared to stock ecu equipped cars with same mods but stock computer. im not sure but could this be related to AFM, as my AFM maxxes out around the redline and i dont think this should be the case at only 10psi (other mods include full exhaust, fmic, exh cam gear, splitfire coils, shielded pod) anyway so i thought i would swap the pfc for my stock ecu to see if the car is quick like others i am comparing too, and seems to go into rich and retard at anything above 4500rpm even in 1st. there is a sudden jerk in accelleration, then the car starts revving up very slowly to the redline. im assuming this is R&R? maybe what ben is experiencing?
  18. if u want to find out, just go down to the petrol station and let them down to about 20 and see what happens, thats what i did.
  19. i changed pressures from 38psi down to 20 and it made no difference, (255/40/17) most low profile tyres have very stiff sidewalls such as mine, so even if u drop the pressures it wont do much.
  20. hey, i used to use 6" jl audio splits 2 cars ago with custom pods. when i got my old r33 skyline i tried to fit them, assuming the stock size was 6". they were too small to fit into the standard plastic mounts, so i assumed stock they are 6.5"(and left the crappy speakers in there) in my current r33, as i wrote before i got 6.5' jaycar splits (after learning from the previous 6" being too small) which were too big. as u can imagine i was annoyed! anyway aftermarket speakers came in the car, they fit into the standard front mounts, i just checked the box, and they are 6.5' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so basically, some 6.5' speakers will fit without modification, and some wont. jaycars dont. kenwood 6.5' coaxials(blue coloured) do, as that is what was in there.
  21. i used to have quicktrack in my old car, worked well most of the time, was always able to get through, although sometimes they didnt seem to know where my car was (in normal cbd areas) when the alarm went off. this happened quite a few times and they said it was not uncommon. probably depends on area.
  22. head gaskets are good on rb25s, they are not a problem, other things will let go before them. any more than 10psi is risky on stock turbo
  23. a stock 99 model wrx will destroy any stock gtst in a straight line, around corners, and in any weather conditions. i have driven a stock wrx and heaps of stock gtst's so know from experience.
  24. i got some jaycar 6.5" splits and they do not fit in the stock plastic mount. i installed one today, we had to remove the plastic mount, then make a mount from MDF onto which the speaker is mounted. i dont see how a 6.75" speaker could mount in there...
  25. the whiteline kits for skylines use bilstein shocks, they originate from heasmans anyway.
