Ah ok so 'piston slap' is pretty self explanatory, i figured that is what is was... thanx for the explanation. to JimX: I have never heard any rattles from the engine when cold, it idles perfectly smoothly just as you would expect it to. I have also never heard it while driving when the engine is cold.... But then again, i dont think i have ever driven the car without letting it warm for several mintues, or keeping the revs way below 2 grand till warm So i guess in my case the engine builder matched the tolerances, while in the person in the other thread who was complaining of slap did not have a mechanic who cared as much..

Aftermarket pistons could give a different reading to stock, but the ones in your car might just be to the same specs as the stock ones. JimX : What is piston slap? My knowledge doesnt extend that far lol I have Wiseco forged pistons in my car (everything else is stock i feel dumb for not upgrading it to take advantage of this...) and the engine feels just like any other when cold or warm...

A compression test would not help you. A compression test helps when you want to get an idea of how worn an engine is, in terms of individual cylinders, ie. the pistons in the cylinders with poor compression would have worn piston rings. This could be the cause of exessive oil usage etc... So you could do a compression test on your engine(i did before i bought my car for peace of mind), but all it would tell you is how worn parts of the engine are, no matter if they are original or aftermarket.

Ive got a while set of meguires stuff...it has worked beautifully on my parents and my other cars...but it didnt make the skyline much better. I think its cuz the other cars have mica/metallic paint, and the skyline is a flat colour. Thanx

Hey..i was just wondering if anyone has had resprays done? My car has a few scratches/stone chips etc and red fades the fastest...so just out of interest at the moment, how much did they cost u? I am thinking that this is an alternative to getting a few different panels sprayed sometime in the future.

FS: 1996 R33 GTS-T Series 2
siksII replied to SilvaR33's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)
I just wanna say to people who judge an import car by kilometres - Dont Bother! Anyone who has shopped for an import (ie most of us??) should know this by now, so i dont know why people are making these 'high kilometre' comments. I say this all from personal experience, cuz i have a 1996 series two, which was imported in 1998 with 40,000kms on it, that is above average from japan, but at least it was believable. Maybe People who look at the clock should think twice about this car and maybe go buy a low kilometre instrument cluster to make them feel better once they have bought it -
Hey.. i dont know if this is what would help you, but a friend of mine and myself fixed his whole front bar(LARGE veilside bar which was half hanging off a swift gti and vibrated stupidly) by using rolls of stick on foam/felt. U can get this stuff from say clark rubber or autobarn, or even a hardware store. U stick this between anything that might vibrate before u put everything together, it worked really well for us..

Damn the list just keeps on going! Id just like to add ive also found a few remainsing rattles and squeeks/groaning noises(GRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!) in the door....which i ripped appart completely and tried to fix by tightening anything that looked like it might stop the noises... Not very successfuly. The window seems to still have play mainly in the rail closest to the door latch, which is the cause of the funny squeeks. It looks to me like the Japanese use door cavities(spelling?) as general storage places....

LOL so i guess im not alone in my findings...i thought it was just me! So, i guess its time for everyone to remove their drivers door trim and check it out!!!!!!! If anyone needs a spare badge and wants to buy the one i found, make an offer...i will only sell if its a good one, cuz otherwise ill keep my finding in case someone badges my car I wonder what to pull apart next... but still, noone has an explanation of HOW things get in there!! (apart from those XXX videos, might be a good (or ONLY) hiding place from the gf...)
-
Every since i bought my car about 5 weeks ago, there has been an infuriating rattle in my drivers side door...so this afternoon i started taking the trim off to see what was goin on in there, expecting maybe the power window motor or something like that to be be loose.... BUT Just as i was pulling the bottom of the trim away from the door guess what falls out.... a GT badge, one that goes on each side of the car.. I went to check if mine was in place but then i thought even if it fell off, how could it get INSIDE the door trim! *WTF* anyway that was a dumb moment... Anyone got any ideas on how this could happen? wierd...maybe nissan stuck a spare badge in every door lol...

Boost / Power increase? Newbie Queston!
siksII replied to Ash's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Isn't one bar 14.something psi? The boost gauge on my series 2 goes from -7 to +7psi, comes on boost around 2800rpm with 4.5psi and then goes up to the max(7psi) from 4500rpm onwards... Are all you guys saying that the stock boost is one bar(14psi)????????? -
My dad told me about this yesterday, which was when i realised where the fire truck/police car were going while we were sitting at the pizza place.... Its scary to see these types of things happen, and a shame people do stupid things like ride in the boot...im 18 years old and have seen people around my age do dumb stuff like this...hopefully the rest of us will get smarter from seeing things like this.

That is true, but i am 95% sure that a saw an article in motor magazine about two years ago which tested the total braking distance(including reaction time) for all sorts of cars(from commodores to porsches) and the most a car took to slow from 100km/h was about 45 metres.. i would understand if they put maybe 40 metres on top of this, but 100 metres on top of what it would actually take got my attention!
-
Is it just me, or does this RTA diagram say it takes 150 metres to stop from 100km/h in dry conditions? Im pretty sure no car ive been in takes that long....or am I wrong?

george-sounds good....but the earliest id make it to the rocks is about 10:20 im always down there myself actually...but lately its been really annoying how they have made it a no parking zone on the harbour side for the times when 'the nice selction of cars' are all hanging around down there! Ill give u a call on friday..
-
RON-15H would you go through the city to go to chatswood? cuz if so, you could meet up wit me first, i finish work in the city at around 10, and i know chatswood so we could drive up together... just a throught.
-
I just ran outside because my alarm went of, resulting from a stupid branch from a stupid tree freefalling 4 metres straight onto my bonnet, causing a small dent and scratches to go with it. does anyone know how or who to go to to get really small dents out? its not very noticeable, but still.....
-
ok then....i gotta check with the gf....ill probably turn up, ill post on friday.

The only exhaust mod i have is a 3inch Jasma cat bak system....its a very nice compromise...gives a refined hum rather than a loud, crackly buzz...get one of these if u can get your hands on one just like someone else suggested above!
