got one of the tools duncan had pictured and am slightly confused.. Where do u screw it into? I thought the pulley face had holes in it to put the bolts through but it doesnt... i can see a 2 small holes (you'd break bolts if u tried to lever off them, they like 8mm) about 3 cm out from the centre bolt but nothing else on the faces (except for about 6 slightly drilled holes on the outer rim which are useless.. any suggestions

yeh cheers dude, i wasn't keen using the 3 armed one, i have the radiator out already so that's all good. i'll go try find one of these tonight after work.. and if i can't i'll just throw it on a trailer, drive it somewhere and say "fix" heh, i'm so over it

K i've asked the Q with the pump and u do need to pull everything apart to replace it so i'm not going to bother (it's a 93 ne way) However, i need to know where i can get a crank pulley remover to fit. I have a standard one that works on most cars (it's pretty much just 3 claws that u attached to the outside) but it's sorta small and i cant get enough leverage + i'm worried about chipping the edges of the pulley. Bursons sells a remover for $250 which is too much.. i was speaking to someone who told me they got one for $20 to fit (it fits the notches in the balancer, isntead of gripping the edges) but i can't remember who/where. Can anyone give me a part number or a store that sell them cheaply? Thx.. i wanna get this thing back on the road zz

ahh ok, i wasn't sure, i thought the sump might need to come off but looking at the workshop manual and the way it showed it pulled apart outwards i was sorta hoping it might be possible hehe
-
yo anyone got any idea on the pump? because if i can replace the pump with little work i'll just take the car to a workshop and get them to replace the pump and the tensioner bearing at the same time
-
Hmm i'm just looking at the engine manual and wondering about a new oil pump.. I will be alot less worried about the car with a new one and it looks like it bolts straight onto the front of the block.. If this is the case and i already have the pulleys etc off then it wouldnt be that difficult to replace.. is it worth taking it to a mech to get it replaced? Or is the sump etc going to need to come off to take it apart
-
Yeh previous owner changed it just before i bought the car so i don't have to worry about that. I'm hoping i'll be able to get a replacement stud, this one came loose pretty much as soon as the nut was cut off luckily, otherwise i can probably ghetto spec something out of a nut and bolt to replace it Now i've just gotta find a socket big enough to fit the crank pulley nut, yank it off and then it's pretty much just a matter of waiting for parts/putting it all back together i guess.. (btw wat size is the socket on the end of the crank pulley? I've read 23 Mm for a rb25 but a 23 won't fit and this looks more like 28, which i dont have)
-
lol yeh true, crap like this only seems to happen when i work on skylines though, zz. Waterpump is pretty new and timing belt but i'll probably replace those other things u suggested once i find a thread that details which they are and part numbers, cant seem to dig up my workshop manual atm

Yo finally got the bolt off tonight, i tried a huge assed pair of grips as a last result and then grabbed a hack saw and cut it off, top half of the cover is off and the belt and everything looks fine, not even a scuff (i expected some tears from the little cover bouncing around) Will hopefully pull the bottom half off tonight if all goes well and i dont run into any more nuts that need undo-ing i'm guessing the tensioner being talked about is one of the two, half way down inside the bottom of the case that sit on the sides and push the belt inwards? thx ppl!
-
Yeh i've pulled it out, i was expecting the nut to break as well.. taking a hell of alot of abuse, bought a big 10 mil ring for it yesterday and still not enough leverage, if i could get the clutch assembly part of the fan off then i could fit a ratchet in behind it and probably get enough leverage but i didn't want to pull apart more than i had to and i cant figure it out so might have to call a mech out to yank it off for me using some spec tools
-
This is driving me nuts, i wanna see what it came off but i still haven't got the cover off.. one of the 10 mil nuts that connects the pulley to the water pump is jammed so tight it's impossible to pull off, cant get a grinder in their either, might have to try get an oxy and heat it up a bit or something.. probably gonna melt everything but cant see anything else working zz
-
Hmm your right, definitely not in that picture.. it's pretty manky but i can make out JAPAN and 6LB printed on it.. theres some other numbers but i cant make em out the things pretty shredded, it's a metal ring with a rubber cover on it (or plastic) It's about an inch and a half across, will check if a bearing cover is missing from the timing belt tensioners/idlers though.. the alternator is giving me grief, i'm guessing it hasn't been moved in at least 10 years
-
ah ok thought so, stupid tensioner bolt is insanely tight, i'll get it all pulled apart and look for a missing ring on something hehe, thanks also, i think it did kill the engine.

Yo so i just pulled off the front of my cam gear cover to try and figure out what the damn noise was and found this thing sitting on top.. it's doesn't look like i'll be able to re-use it.. does anyone know what it is/came off or a part number? Also, do i have to remove the front of the waterpump to get the cam gear cover all the way off? (rb26) thx..
-
crapppp dunno if i can last that long, bad enough i gotta drive the rolla, now i gotta do it with people that have been sitting still for 8 hours and have forgotten their way around melbourne
-
blah, anyone know when it ends? i want the traffic to go away.. my drive home is like 15 minutes longer, through the back streets

Ever Felt Like Drawing With Texta On Your Car?
GTAAAH replied to funkymonkey's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Yeh that's pretty cool, looks like the art they do on ivory and that, looks pimp as and heaps different than every other lambo out there -
ah crud, i don't have that much to go against, i know it's a new engine but thats about it, would be good to know as i wanna sell the gtr

Just trying to figure out when my engine was built (more specifically which model skyline it was out of), i am assuming fasting only works with VIN numbers So far i managed to find: Does this just mean that an ID number like RB26064000 will be out of an r34 and newer and a number like RB26024000 will be out of a r32? Anyone know where these numbers transition.. would be handy.. E.g. (but obviously not like this) RB26024xxx - r32 89 RB26025xxx - r32 90 RB26026xxx - r32 91... Etcetra.. if the fasting program does work with engine numbers this would probably make it alot easier anyways.. assuming the numbers simply go up as the car gets newer as i've guessed from wrxhoon's quote thx
-
Yo does this work with engine numbers, or is there a program that does it? I want to know whether my car has a r33 engine or 32 engine in it.. thx
-
ey, it was just a bearing inside the air conditioner unit, lucky! i was scared it was big end or something, tuner said my engine is vry healthy otherwise
-
ok i will throw it in next oil change... which will probably be tonight, i didn't think so many things could make the same noise may have to drive it out to brooklyn to get it checked.. so far to drive.. thx ppl hmm... $4200 for a new 26 isn't bad either..
-
the 2100 was $70 and i think it's 10w-40 or something from memory i think you've mixed it up with something else I bring the rev's up from idle and it's probably loudest just above idle, i keep bringing it up and it gets drowned by engine noise at about 3.5k and from their upwards nothing.. I'm a bit weary to take it to a mechanic without opinions because i have discovered alot of dodgy ones and the ones i trust aren't too good on newer cars The main thing that doesn't make sense to me is that it doesn't keep getting louder with rev's
-
My 32 GTR recently developed a fair rattle in the head (sounds like it's coming from just behind the timing belt cover, but it's not a belt as it goes quieter with rev's and isn't a ticking noise), it goes quieter with more rev's, it's very noticeable at idle but at like 3.5k+ it's quiet.. I can't notice it under load at all It as plenty of oil in it (motul 2100)etc, always has.. It used to happen a bit quieter but it went away for a while and is back now.. My oil pressure gauge is reading a bit low too but it's always been a bit dodgy, reading high sometimes and low at others so i dont think it's a pressure prob. What could it be? Most of the people who have spun bearings etc notice it more up top but this is only down low and only in neutral.. Not sure about K's on engine but i know it was replaced about 20,000 km's ago.. thx Edit: found a 33 with same prob.. suggestions were "A/C compressor bearing" and "timing belt idler or tensioner pulley bearings".. Still confused as to why it would only be at low revolutions and not under load if it was one of these :S
