  1. While out driving last night (Thursday), I heard a loud "bang", like I had run over something and kicked it up against the bodywork. Then I could hear something rattling. I checked under the car, but could find nothing evident. Tonight I jacked up the rear of the car and discovered this: The top 5cm of the RH shaft had snapped cleanly off, so that now only the spring (Kings lowered) is controlling the rear RH quarter. It hasn't adversely affected the ride or handling of the car, but I'm glad that the GOR drive I was going on on Sunday has been cancelled. I've emailed Quadrant Suspensions in Berwick to see what they can do for me.
  2. It was the extension added way back in early '90s (from memory) to bring the track up to F1 specs (track needed to be longer) in anticipation of running F1 races. The inaugural use was a World Sports Car championship round. It was the beginning of the end for the Light Car Club of Australia which used to run Sandown (car) race meetings - apparently due to state govt reneging on their financial support for the project.
  3. I just use Castrol autotrans fluid, which is red. Also, you need to have the ignition ON before you check the level in the ATTESSA reservoir.
  4. I've never had any dramas with Falkens - currently running ZE912s 235/45x17. Also previously had good results with B/S Potenza GIIIs.
  5. Cranking revs seem a bit low (300 would be better), and RBs seem to like LOTS of timing (around 45 deg) to start. Also, you have probably now flooded the engine. You need to crank with WOT until it fires.
  6. Just tighten the fan/alternator belt.
  7. Obviously the risk of injury increases with increased speed, but first you have to have the crash.I haven't had a serious crash in over 30 year of driving, yet I have received a few speeding tickets during that same period. I have NEVER been involved in a crash that had any element of excessive or inappropriate speed. In fact, the 2 most recent collisions I was basically stationary! (1 was in a shopping centre car park, the other I was stationary waiting the car in front to do a right turn). In a disproof of the arguments, there were 2 incidents in recent times. Firstly, top cop Ken Lay was nailed by a speed camera, but wasn't involved in any collisions. And secondly, (former) police minister Cameron was involved in a collision where he wasn't speeding (by his own admission, just not paying attention). All these arguments for cameras are based on statistics. There is a saying about statistics - "there are lies, damned lies, and there are statistics". I will admit to having generally slowed down on the roads, but not because I believe the arguments in favour of cameras. I have slowed down because I no longer wish to contribute to the coffers of Victoria.
  8. You are also allowed to LEARN in a (turbo) Skyline - because a properly licensed driver is "in charge" of the vehicle. But who is "in control" of the vehicle? And to top it off, you technically can't drive the (turbo) Skyline home after you pass your test! WTF?

  11. You only delay the inevitable - they will still be inexperienced when they do finally get to drive at those times. And those that have permission to be out at those hours - shift workers, etc - will have the bejeeses harassed out of them by the police checking if they are allowed out during those hours. Maybe if they taught people properly in the first place - now there's a novel idea!!
  12. Couple of options: 1. Get an axe handle to wedge under the boot lid while it is open. 2. Get the units repaired / re-gassed.
  13. What about using a 240Z head - just machine the notches for the injectors and use the L24E manifold. Got to be a reasonable bang-for-buck modification.
  14. I propose we ban the next idiot that asks this question about converting any RWD Skyline to the equivalent GT-R. How many $%^&^&%$$ times do we have to say it?
  15. R33 GTS4s were N/A. The logic seems to be that a RB25DET would have made the car too close to a GT-R, so why would anyone fork out the extra $$$ for the R. (My R32 GTS4 has had a RB25DET heart transplant, and was tuned to 180 at all 4)Any R33 GTS4s with a turbo are after-market jobs.
  16. This information is available on the dba website.
  17. Then he had a gauge connected. What did it read? Just because it has "good" fuel pressure doesn't mean it has "correct" fuel pressure. If the injectors are dirty, they can hold the needle slightly open, allowing too much fuel to enter the engine. Result = RICH. So, are the injectors clean and flowing correctly?
  18. Unless you are doing highway miles, there is very little chance of the O2 sensor having any significant effect on your fuel economy. What was the fuel pressure? Are you going to get the injectors flowed and cleaned?
  19. Have you had the injectors cleaned? Have you cleaned the AAC valve? Have you cleaned / replaced the air filter? Check the adjustment of the TPS. It also controls fuel cut-off during gear changes (when throttle snaps shut). (should be 0Ohms between pins 1&2 at "throttle closed", not 0 otherwise) Could be a faulty temp sensor (different to the gauge sensor), which could be telling the ECU that the engine is still cold (should be 2.5kOhm when cold, 0.3kOhm at op temp).
  20. Not happy with it though. I'm running the sound back through the home theatre system to take advantage of the "surround sound".It's most distracting. Not every camera angle has full sound, and the volume seems to vary with different cameras.I ended up turning it off and just take the TV sound.
  21. No custom pieces required. Any gearbox that bolts to 1 RB series engine will bolt to any other RB series engine.
  22. I think there is a Wolf available as a PnP unit for the RB25. (wolfems.com) Uses MAP load sensor, and has a handset.
  23. Tried re-tuning to handle the big cams?
  24. Why not watch tonight if you want to see it so much. And it's a 180B, not a 180SX.
