  1. Ordinarily, a RB30 will need TRIPLE Webers.
  2. When the battery gets old, it loses a lot of its charge during the start process. The alternator puts a lot of charge back into the system to replenish the battery. The ECUs detect this higher than normal charge rate and generate an error condition.Get a new battery.
  3. There are numerous threads on this problem. The usual cause is the rear tyres having a smaller rolling diameter than the fronts.
  4. When you get the "second opinion" comp test, get them to do a "wet" test as well.
  5. The regulator (in the alternator) could be shagged. If it causes the battery to overcharge, the battery will eventually be unable to accept and hold any charge.
  6. No news so far (not that I'm expecting any soon). I've emailed a couple of other groups I'm in. I was on the bus yesterday, so kept an eye out up sidestreets, but didn't spot it. I'm not holding my breath in the hope of seeing it soon, or even again.
  7. No. But I do have a Jaycar screecher alarm, but never got it to work. It will after I get the car back! That's my worry - there might be rego papers in the car giving my address. I was concerned that the 32 might not have been there when I got home, although it has a proper alarm w/immobiliser.
  8. One possibility is that the incorrect wattage of bulb has been used. The fast blink is not so fast that you can't see the lights "on/off". And I think if you use "hazard", the lights blink at "normal" rate.
  9. I think I qualify in the "old" category. I'm getting pretty fed up with every act of an import driver being categorised as "hoon behaviour". However, when anyone asks about "what car do you have", my response is always "one of those hoon cars". Out near where I live, I'm forever being overtaken in 70 zones, when I'm sitting on 70. When there was major roadworks with a 40 zone, I got overtaken by cars doing 60 - 70. The other day, some idiot in a Statesman came out of a roundabout towards me fishtailing - IDIOT! People seem to not understand the meaning of a "STOP" sign. But that's not "hooning", although it can be dangerous. John Belfield (NY Day, 2009) didn't do the oldies' cause any favours. D-I-M has been touted before. So, when I witnessed a pair of idiots on motorbikes doing monos along the Burwood Hwy in Melb's outer east, I tried to report them to the local police (Knox). I was fobbed off with a "if we didn't see it, it didn't happen" response. I've had police cars sit behind me at traffic lights, but they left me alone. I knew they were there, so I behaved myself (not that I was ever likely to "lite-em-up" at the green light). If you think we can somehow change the thinking of the ignorant masses, then count me in.
  10. Appreciate the offer John, but I have something else on. The problem is where the PoS(s) might have taken it. If they are only after a cheap ride home, then the car isn't going to be out in the boondocks, but is somewhere in front of someone's house. And there are A LOT of homes in the Werribee area. So I think I'll just leave it to chance for the moment. Fortunately, I'm less likely to have to park at the station after the new bus timetable starts on Monday. Now buses pick up / set down just around the corner from home, albeit at 40 minute intervals.
  11. Yeh, thanks John. Just get them to call Werribee Police - 9742 9444. They will need to be patient, because it took me THREE attempts to get someone to even answer the phone, and they had to call me back because they had something else that needed to be done. You'd think in a station that big that they could fit more than 1 person in to answer calls! Terry, still wondering myself what could be nastier than the first 3 options! Not sure how big the market is for used R30 bits. As Ruffels suggested, probably some little PoS too cheap to purchase a train / bus fare to get home.
  12. What are you going to do with the fuel once you get it out of the fuel tank? Frankly I wouldn't be worrying about it. The fuel will still run the engine. Once you get the car out of the garage, the smell should dissipate (if it is just the fuel).
  13. Mine cost $500 a few years ago (Holloway Panels, Bayswater) - included a bit of work to reinforce some thin areas.
  14. Actually, just remembered I have one from a Z - wonder if it will fit?
  15. I might have a need for the ignition barrel. (will know if/when the R30 gets recovered)
  16. Not at all, Terry. When I get hold of the pathetic excuse for a member of the human race:1. Boil in oil 2. Tar and feather 3. Hang, draw and quarter. 4. Get nasty!
  17. Not worth insuring.

  19. The R30 was stolen from Werribee Rail Station today - sometime between 7:45am and 1:45pm If you find the little pieces of crap that stole it, save a baseball bat for me! Vehicle details: R30 5-door hatchback, reg FVB534. (NDSOC plate surrounds) Silver, 5sp manual, 15" 5-spoke rims, SAU sticker on rear quarter windows.
  20. Have you checked that the alternator is charging correctly? If the regulator in the alternator is not working correctly, the battery will be overcharged and die.
  21. It's "x100 mmHg", so the gauge goes from -700mmHg - +700mmHg. 760mmHg = 1 bar = 14.7psi.
  22. It's either making 5psi or it's making 7.5 psi - which is it? Please clarify.
