Both curves they were from the same turbo, they were 2x continues runs. Motor started having valve bounce issues. This is without the surge slots. I also did some power enhancement modifications the turbine housing which worked but got unexpected lag.
-
Big thanks to Status for his work. Did another run today with the modified ceramic bb ATR43G3 prototype. Once again few designs worked and some didn't. Its going back to the drawning board. Also my Valve springs started to go funny. Time for some stronger springs.

Few reasons I found when I was dealing with those 4 years ago: 1. Materials on the turbine wheel is not 100% 2. Balancing machine used overseas is a "overseas brand" or needs calibration. 3. Not all of them are VSRed (some just put 2x poorly balanced wheels together). 4. Shaft tolerance is too high 5. Some of the Ring groves and retainer groves are not deep enough 6. Some of the bearing housing castings were not up to standard. 7. Oil rings were not treated in the right way, Garrett once are lot harder and lot harder to snap. 8. Housing profile is not all 100%, Some of them were profiled out centered and angled. 9. Very roughly built. Some of them even had piston rings crushed out side the bearing housing. 10. Builder has very little knowledge about the product. So the combination is not optimized for the best out come. All the works seems like very roughly done and slapped together. I’ve been told by one of the manufactures that one of their experienced worker can produce 20 turbos from casting in a day. I have 2x experienced engineers whom can only produce 6 turbos a day from casting.

Thats all cool. I've uploaded some footage in relation to actuator adjustments in earlier pages, follow that to have the stronger actuator installed when required. Also do run a 3inch metal intake pipe and looking forward to see some results.

Run a high pressure actautor (18psi) and EBC it will give even better response. The one you've got now (we didn't supply) is too soft. This turbo is good enough for 300rwkws.

Definitly feels down in power. The turbo's spinning lot harder and started to spool earlier. It does make sense as the opposing pressure on the comp side is not present. Which means the turbine side would be cooler as exhaust air can flow easier. How ever how not sure the extend in surge increasement due to higher shaft speed as the engine can only swollow so much air. I'm actually seeking for expert comments on it as well. It doesn't seems to match all of the theroy. I will do two dyno runs with different housings and see how much of it has changed in power curve. With the surge cut it must directly above the lower blade. I don't think it would make much differences as lone as its in between both blades.

The housing casting are generally ok. So dump the old chra, build a new core, machine the both housings to suit, and it will work.

Garrett Gtx-r Mid Sized Turbos Not Far Away .
hypergear replied to discopotato03's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
For those sizes they generally have 12 blades as in 6 tall and 6 short. The one I've seen has only 10 tall blades. I wanted to buy one of those for the ceramic bb turbo that I'm currently working on. Been quoted $1600 just for a comp wheel. Price might come down when its more commercially available. -
Thanks for the advise. I will keep ABE's profile. few updates. I've changed the comp housing. In between the standard and anti surge slotted housings the difference is in response. But not so much in terms of what RPMS it comes in but more of from when its merging close to 0PSI to 20psi. Lot faster Shaft speed. The turbo's making a jet engine sound heard few 100 meters away. lol With normal comp housing its quite. not as responsive but noticeably more power. I guess having the anti-surge holes would be beneficial with a large comp wheels.

This is a typical diesel turbocharger. Should make around unresponsive 450HP.

Garrett Gtx-r Mid Sized Turbos Not Far Away .
hypergear replied to discopotato03's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
They has less blades with the lower blades removed. I believe it should work well as there are less weight and more passage space. Its very interesting thou. This type of design was made and used many years ago before the current upper and lower bladed comp wheel was introduced.. -
Get a really cheap one. I can convert those to a 600HP duel ceramic ball bearings turbo that works.
-
Yes, machined another comp housing today should having every thing back tonight. hopefully makes better response then the ATR43G3 on Abs.

Vg30 Gcg Hi Flow Or Gtrs On Mild Modded Gts25t ?
hypergear replied to discopotato03's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
That is exactly right. Which in all my readings that Trent's done there are runs on different boost levels, you normally see one on 17psi and another one on 20psi. Plenty of my customers are making very decent power based on mild boost. I didn't post this up, and 24psi is unexpected. Nothing thing works 100% in a new prototype. This does not affect down low response, torque and power. 320rwkws was consistent, which I must high light we do lot more to OP6 housings then just machining to suit a larger wheel. There is an other run with in on 18psi with the same high flow in my thread, have a ready under the KAI profile. I'm not going to post it here. Profit or lose has never been a concern. Just saying we've invested lots of efforts in making this happen. It has been a lengthy and enjoyable process, we are not stopping here either. -
Vg30 Gcg Hi Flow Or Gtrs On Mild Modded Gts25t ?
hypergear replied to discopotato03's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Trent tunes my car, you should know him good enough. He's can't add special power to it, plus I thrash it trying to blow up my own turbos and he's fully aware of that. Also every one's making very similar results based on same boost assume their car's working properly thou. and not all high powered results there are from my own car, few people made more power with with less boost then I did. -
The upper blades of the comp wheel is designed to suck air in while the bottom is to throw air out. The slots really feels like it has released all pressure from the upper blades and circulated it on front of the turbo. I do feel down in power, and the BOV rarely makes any sounds. I think it is off the performance mod list for this specific setup till the normal housing is tested.

Vg30 Gcg Hi Flow Or Gtrs On Mild Modded Gts25t ?
hypergear replied to discopotato03's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Not true. I don't tune my own car. Its the same tuner who tuned all of the cars, he's done he's very best to get power for all of yous, I'm no special to any one else. Max power of 17psi vs 24psi agreed, But do have a look in RPM vs power and torque. We've put in lots of time, money and effort, doing dyno runs and testing on every single combination and possibilities for the best out come. The results are no accidents, if you read through our thread you will notice the amount of developments involved and out comes through time. There are plenty of results including customer's results done by different tuners are on display. I'm not commenting on other people's work. -
Photos of the bearings before installation: Turbo's installed. Regarding to those anti surge holes, I think the best description would be driving with a massive air leak. Or unless I am driving with a massive air leak. They do make heaps of noises. I'll going to machine another housing without surge holes for comparison.

Damaged Intercooler Causing Boost Leak
hypergear replied to Harey's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I know some one who can weld it for cheap. SMSed to your phone Its looks like an end less leak hunt with new leaks discovered every couple of days. I think even the 279rwkws you've made was with leaks every where. -
It certainly feels like the case, I guess Nissan did put in lots of thinking in their design. Also it leads me to think if the upper blades do any thing if the anti surge slots are set in between. I might just machine them all flat which leaves more induction area. Also I don't remember seeing any anti surge slots in the new machined wheeled turbos that Garrett is bringing out, apparently they don't run the lower blades.
-
That only acts after the throttle is shut. The surge slots releases surge while accelerating. Ie. exhaust wheel still spins while I’m half throttle, how ever the open on my throttle body does not create enough volume to swallow all that boost. So some bounces back, creating this Tu tu tu sound. I've seen quite few people mentioning that in the force induction section. But how much pressure exist while throttle is fully opened, If so, having the slots would show a increase in response.
-
Not all true. engine normally surges on low rpms while throttle is half closed. So its really taking out the opposing force out of the comp wheel. The exducer or the bottom blades throws air out so that leaves more access area. Thats all theory, and every one believes in different things. So I'm testing it out.

To profile them we charge $150. Have to modify that housing to suit the BB bearing housing as as its made for a sleeve bearing core. Response its going to be like 20psi @ 4800RPMs mark. If you want there is a small trick that we do to the OP6 .63 housings so they can flow heaps more. I think if I get that done you should be able to pump 330rwkws+ without losing any response. Cost less also.
-
To get that comp housing with the surge slots to a ATR43G3 assume you have the .60 comp will cost $260. or just $100 to drill the slots if you have the .70 version. Upgrading with ceramic ball bearing cartridge would cost way too much at moment. I’m still exploring the actual benefits of having those ceramic balls and try to get them to work at their peek efficiency. We will be able to build them at an acceptable price with small batches. I will announce the final price after having a mature product.

Its got boost control issues. You won't be able to make more power till you can hold it straight at around 18psi. needs a stronger actuator and hopefully it rules it out. I would go for a 24psi atmospheric pressure rated actuator, whichs should hold 18psi without boost controller. Garrett part: 446131-23
