I just reassembled before going back there tomorrow. I got a better pic of the intake cam. Line up the tooth with the letters that run along the teeth, the T on the incorrect tooth and the M on the correct one, makes it bloody obvious doesnt it!

Recently I got my 100 000km service done at a local regular mechanic. After getting the car back I had a huge problem with it pinging everywhere, especially light load and low throttle. I went back and they 'rechecked it' but it made no difference. I had to drive 300km to brisbane that afternoon so did and babied it as much as possible. Once i got to brisbane I got a timing light and checked the timing, was around 30-35 degrees BTDC. We put the timing back to where it should at 15 degrees, effectly pulling 15 degrees out of it. To get to 15 degrees the CAS was nearly at full retard. The car still hasnt been right, has been a bit slow and quite 'surgey' in how its been accelerating, surges to about 5k rpm then wont accelerate too much harder. I had troubles getting up a steep driveway the other day too, the thing just wanted to stall unless I just about did a big launch. Tonight I got the shits and pulled the top cam cover off. When I line the crank pulley up on the yellow TDC mark on the lower timing cover, both the exhaust and intake cam are both one tooth too far clockwise (advanced?) See crappy pics. I have marked the indentation on the pulleys and the marker on the timing cover is white already. I have tried to draw lines to eliminate paralax error, but difficult with a camera. When I line the exhaust and intake cams up with there correct markers, the crank pulley is at about 15 degrees BTDC (the 3rd mark on the balancer past the yellow TDC mark). Im guessing this is pretty conclusive that they have got the timing out a tooth on both (crank pulley wasnt spot on when they did it?) Am I right or is it right already, Just want some advice before i go there tomorrow and potentially make an arse of myself. Oh yeah one other thing, there is an oil leak up there too somewhere. Cam seals were done but there is a puddle on top of the water pump body, so should I be on to them about this as well. Thanks, Tim.

In all my nearly 1000km of driving over the course of the weekend to ipswich and back from maryborough I only really saw one skyline. White r33 with nsw plates YLD-33R just off the gateway. Looked a bit puzzled at seeing my r33 towing a trailer I reckon.
-
Would have been good to see. Have seen this thing at the wide bay sprints a couple years now. Very very quick car, seems to work well in the 'old' guise. Was down in ipswich at the kart track saturday morning/lunch, saw quite a number of skylines going past towards qld raceway.
-
Looks great, as much as I dislike 4 strokes and hire karts it almost looks worthwhile. Looks like a nice track anyway, would be some fun in a real race kart
-
Not much hey. Living the 'borough. Spending my weekends in brisbane occasionally or around other 'regional centres' karting. Spending too much time and money on doing that unsuccessfully
-
Coming back to the real world then danny. As if you dont know enough people in brisbane anyway!

Why are masks a bit much for known infective people? I have had to gown and mask up at work occasionally lately because of the big gastro outbreak that seems to be going around the hospitals and nursing homes. Its just a case of controlling the disease and presenting spread. I didnt have a flu immunisation this year, should have as its free with work but i was away on holiday at the time. Clarification on this, it just doesnt seem to make much sense? What does washing your hands have to do with good and bad bacteria?

Spotted a wingless R33 maroon gts-t leaving qld raceway yesterday. Only noticed because the passenger decided to get out and have a piss beside the highway as a continuous stream of cars passed. Not a good look. 435OME or something like that? Also a yellow R34 GTT on the gateway this arvo, moving slowly in the traffic.

Dont believe everything you read on boostcruising. Like someone pointed out, if you read on the queensland transport site the modification guide is still the same as it has always been with no mention of change. Sure the impounding thing is true, but you probably should do something about it the first time.

Because my GF isnt a very good photographer I guess. This is the best I have got. Wish I could come tomorrow, but kart club working bee means im out!
-
Good time to upload mine from the day before then?
-
Damn spots filling fast. Will think about if i wanna come next time or not soon then I guess.

Im not from brisbane, but thats about the mark I am expecting.

Hey hold on. I previously had an experience with a local mechanic who felt it was necessary to charge me 3 times what he paid trade price for a particular part. I dont know if that is regular practice or not? I would be guessing not, just someone trying to gouge a little more money. All I am trying to do is determine what is a reasonable estimation of time taken to do this job so i know what im up for, and if someone is pulling the wool over my eyes. Im not bad mechanically and wouldnt have a huge drama doing it myself, but in between work commitment and racing karts just about every other weekend i think its easier to actually use what mechanics are there for, mechanical work. Im just not going to go forking money over blindly just because they said so. Why would i want to go do a 4 years mechanics apprenticeship? Im qualified in another field, which also took me 4 years so its hardly an issue of getting off my arse. EDIT: To clarify, i have no problems paying the $50/$75/whatever per hour, its more a case of when they decide that something is a 12 hour job, when really it is half that. And when i say most, i should have said a couple, purely because of small town mentality once again.

Alternatively the best thing you could do in a jap car could be to use it for what it was designed for, transport.
-
I have a question too, because most the mechanics around here are ripping off bastards at best, How much labour should be involved from a mechanics point of view of changing timing belt, bearings, cam and crank seals and water pump if parts are provided.
-
Well im back from a good day. Pretty incident free except for the bloke who spun it (not on the skid pan) and got booted. It was pretty fairly explained at the start of the day.
-
There is a bp a bit further north (further into gympie) on your left that has ultimate. About 1km i think.
-
Or getting people to exercise, as im sure the number of obesity related deaths is much higher. Car crashes are just so much more spectacular though.
-
Saw a silver r33 gtst, i think s2, with a SAU sticker on the rear 1/4 window at maroochydore. I was sat in nando's so I was hardly going to wave though.
-
Its hardly a highly skilled, physically hard or overly stressful job though. I'm sure a semi retired 60 something would be perfectly happy with that.

HOWTO: RB25DET High Boost mode with standard solenoid
Turbo Tim replied to paulr33's topic in Tutorials / DIY / FAQ
I just did the simple straight to ground mod. I didnt see the point of switching it, im more than happy to control boost (and fuel consumption) with my right foot. Oh yeah forgot to mention, definately worthwhile, car has the low down torque its been missing, makes it a bit more fun to drive thats for sure. Its how they should have come from the factory. It is easy to pull up full boost at low rpm though. -
Yeah if your anything like me konrad it wouldnt work anyway, one fortnight will be huge, the next no overtime at all and really shitty.
