thats why they add the sulfur compound to automotive nitrous, and why I pay twice as much to get the bottle filled with the right stuff ,aside from the correct install to begin with and the fact that I reserve it's use for the strip.
-
It's a fire hazard AND it's use is racing derived (unlike LPG and unlike a large turbo). In some states the fitment of a bottle issolation switch is all that is necessary to make it legal on the road (provided the switch is off ) It is not illegal in almost every country, and it isn't illegal in every state. Correct installation of a nitrous system see's the bottle placed in a vented position that is 'sealed off' from the driving cabin. Incorrect insatllation of a nitrous system see's the bottle placed next to you with one line feeding a face mask and the other the engine via a hole right next to the cigarete lighter. There are facts availible for you to view sydneykid on nitrous use in australia at this website: www.ozrace.com . I appologise if I have left anything out of the discussion, I'm keen for all involved to arrive at a reasonable understanding.

Paul, you can have a look at my setup when I'm done mate.

sydneykid, its not illegal to purchase nitrousoxide, in fact it is used in soda bottle dipensers. Nitrous oxide has been used safely for many years as an anesthetic an although you have provided a substancial list of harmfull effects you have also forgotten to provide the required exposure and concentration required to induce any of these symptoms. to put it in perspective the fuel you put in your engine has far more oppertunity to harm your brain or kill you oughtright in far less time and quantity. A full bottle of scotch has more chance of hurting you than a bottle of nitrous oxide the same size and consumed at the same rate. To use the same basis of argument you have taken you must have given up driving a petrol powered car too. After all it's petrol isn't it. "Temporary horsepower" you forget that the engine you speak of is only at the same power level for the same period of time if it does the same time over the 1/4. NO wait! Because nitrous adds 100HP at any rev range you actually spend the same revs with bigger power (thanks to nitrous having superior torque). Respect the decision to forgo the NOS all the same

there is a mod you can do to it to allow it to run 30psi. Be on one of the stock BOV threads I'm sure (the link to the mod website).

13.4 second 1/4 for your 'stockish' R33. (A how to guide).

yep the bracket would be easy. If the pipes are in the same spot it would take 15min to fix the bracket up. -
dan, I think grant at formaz? Has a good GT30 bolt on design for the line, why not call them and see?

slayer, The bottle is not filled and I have still a few electrical points to finish (the throttle mounted microswitch). The finishing will take place in a week or two. Nitrous comes on when it's 'armed' and then the throttle is wide open, regardless of the revs it then adds 50HP all the way through the rev range. So if you are at 3000rpm for instance it will add 50HP. 50hp at such a low rpm is a massive increase in torque. 100HP even more so. With these kits you quite often find that on something like the RB25 the HP setting will result in 20% more power than the jet size (not always the case but quite often).

cheers, mounting points look a little different. The pipes are in the same spot tho? -
The 5L engine in the volvo has forged L34 pistons and forged rods, arp rod bolts, ported head with stainless L34 valves, adjustable billet roller rockers etc. But the camshaft is very mild and the auto is a stocker. It probably will pull a low 14 without too much hassle, with a shift kit and a mild stall converter it would make a 13second pass no problems. The thing is since it's the wife's main transport the use on the drag strip is forbidden. Soulja, NOS = 'fake horspower', is a silly thing to say. It certainly doesn't feel fake and most of the ' but you cheated....nitrous is only for cars without any real power..' comments come from people who you just beat. Take a drive in a car with a nitrous kit and I'm sure you will change your mind (haven't met a person yet who didn't like it ALOT ). As for the 12 without nitrous: I've got the kit on now (no gas in the bottle tho') and I'm very keen to do a few passes with and a few without to add to the knowledge base. It will be as plain as day the difference between NOS on and NOS off.
-
sydneykid, I'm still going to get the 12 without the nitrous. But it was just too cheap to pass up. And nitrous is alot of fun. Nothing like the torque it brings instantly.C'mon for $400 would you say no? BTW, did you know I've got a worked V8 powered volvo wagon as a family car? Complete with two baby seats and a pram.

I don't count on dumb cops. Thats why my setup is so well hidden. Been around cars with hidden nitrous for some time. The best strategy with a 'sleeper' is to not draw any attention to yourself in the first place (that suits the law fine because you are also unlikely to be doing illegal things on the public roads). Having a 'fake' nitrous kit is like a red flag to a bull. It may not actually work (the cops are unlikely to test this) but, you will cop a sticker for something else in the best case senario.

the ecu reset thing does nothing to the s-afc settings. Check them, they don't change. The factory ecu has a crappy fuel map it follows, regardless of resets. I think your problem could be timing related. Here at least things can get out of whack. Also the plugs might need looking at.
-
adam, you will find just about all of the oil vapour will be trapped in the can. The filter material sees to that.
-
the dummy setup will get you a 'sticker', they won't buy the 'it's just pretend' comment half the time.
-
adrain, I challenge anyone to find 'the hardware' under my bonnet. It's pretty well hid. The bottle is more of a problem, but I remove the thing with the mounting brackets and all.
-
So far my Nitrous install is pretty undetectable under bonnet. You can't see the solenoids and the braided lines are covered with good old pollution hose. As they say 'nothing to see here'. As for the bottle: 'that subwoofer box is rather interesting.....'
-
bigger isn't better unless not having a running engine is 'better'. The 'just a little bigger' thinking is why people damage things with nitrous. I'm not one of those people.
-
automotive Nitrous has a sulfur compound in it to discourage you from having a sniff. Butters, I reckon it was the cookies you ate an hour before that had you laughing, cause a): you have to breath in a whole lot of nitrous to start laughing and B): the sulfur compound would have you throwing up well before the laughing began.

ogura 4.8kg.----> Takakaira.com from 13.8 to 13.4, just the flywheel.
-
51jay, thats the same sort of power reading I got for the condition mine ran a 13.3 @ 106mph, except my 60ft was 2.3. What size tyres you got on the back cause 1.8 is a great time?
-
mine cost me $400 plus the $300 worth of 600HP fuel pump (cost me $200 actually). NOS and others do kits for around $1500 for a (wet). Leave the dry kits well alone. 100HP shot on top of a stock turbo R33. The install is easy the only special tool you will need is a tap and die kit ($20 from hardware store) but, often the kit comes with the suitable tap anyway. Nitrous is the best value mod bar none. You only need a fuel pump change. No ecu, intercooler blah blah blah...
-
R34driftaholic, light flywheel is the better mod than most. Nitrous oxide is easiley the best bang for buck
-
lagwagon, Your making a good case for a whale to wipe that smirk off your face

8,000rpm isn't as healthy as 7,000rpm. If you aren't making power at 8,000rpm why rev it there and cop the extra wear? At sustained revs beyond 6500rpm the standard pulley ratios will cause the water pump to cavitate.
