  1. Jay95R33, I think sydneykid did some calcs some time back on the same subject. I say this thread should be moved to the forced induction section to allow more participation in the debate. zanda, if he has that time at the plex and not a g-tech then I conceed he has a better time and for the time being a faster car, he probably even did his pass on 165 tyres I guess that just leaves me with the fact that I haven't blown the best part of $1.5K on an intercooler to go 0.1sec faster (he is still faster so I'll have to suck eggs).
  2. The dyno I had done 230rwhp @4700rpm with ping issue, IS the state of tune I ran the 13.3 with. I cbf looking up the threads that contain the details of the night at the drags story, it contains the description of the symptoms I have still got today.
  3. caminperth, well done. 13.6 is as good as Paul's best. Go stock intercooler whales! GO!
  4. Yes the colder the air, the denser the charge = power is true. But , the longer the pipe and the greater the volume to fill, the longer the time taken to reach piston = slower engine response time (note I did not say anything about lag). Turn your hose on and see much longer it takes to fill a 15L bucket Vs a 2L one at the same hose pressure, thats the difference in volume between the GTR cooler and the stock gtst one from memory. Sure the air is colder and the engine makes more power, it just loses time in getting to the same rpm. If you'd like to tell me how making the air path 'longer' increases performance I'd be interested to know too. I don't think you are suggesting that making the intercooler pipes do two laps around the car body would help. The principle is the same on the larger volume intercooler although the magnitude is less ridiculous. You may be missing my point. The 'power' over a stock unit I have never disputed. My issue is the possible response time issue introduced by the greatly increased volume of the new intercooler and piping. Here's how I back up my claim alternatively : Let's see a front mount intercooler equiped R33 gtst with a stock turbo run better than a 13.3 @106mph on 205's. To the best of my knowledge there isn't one. I'm not trying to poo poo aftermarket intercoolers, I'm very sure that you can do much better than the stock unit, it's just that for the extra expense you need to make sure the size is 'just right'.
  5. I am a professional arm chair wrestler. I am in the two seater divan class and I am hoping to build some bulk up to compete in the 3 seater division and go for the world championship crown. I also rock da microphone.
  6. mate, rather than talk to the tuners about theory, just rip out all the plugs and have a look at them. Check the gap is set to 0.8mm.
  7. no i didn'y go. The car needs an injector or two cleaned. The ping comes in strong at 4700rpm and although it's making 230rwhp it's afr is high 9s there. The rich fueling and very little timing should eliminate ping but this means one or two pots are leaning out whilst the others are waay overfuelled. I'm pulling the plugs and possibly injectors out today to find out for sure.
  8. It's not a freak car. The first dyno it ever had (over 2 years ago) showed 180 rwhp odd on a dyno day with other cars and whilst a heathly figure it wasn't the highest. the mods and tuning I've done are responsible for the power and considerable torque it's making (afr's uptop aside).
  9. R31 Chick, by VN you mean a fully sik V6 mate?
  10. see my 'how to' 13.4sec 1/4 mile thread. The mods are less than $2k. 'The project 12sec' thread has about $2.5k worth of mods. Then again the security system is important.
  11. yeah I am being carefull about the fuel issue. Basically the bad afr is right on the ping line so its not doing any harm on my day to day driving, what I am resorting to given the problems up top.
  12. bless_you, the best intentions your mate has and all he may not be on the right track. If your car has problems idling especially when cold then maybe the afm is to blame otherwise its not likely. Have you checked the plugs condition and gaps?
  13. you got enough for a 13.8 there mph wise. Just get the 60ft into a 2.1 and your there Did you run lower tyre inflation (say 20psi)? Do you have pineapples? It's lots of fun anyway isn't it.
  14. Nitrous oxide is good stuff. People who knock it have usually never tried it on a car that was setup properly.
  15. The issue is most probably a blocked injector or two. Will rip out plugs tonight. And then rip out injectors if there is a suspect plug.
  16. Predator666, the issue is with one or two pots running lean. I'll know when I take the plugs out tonight. The afr I have heat soak or not is not going to allow pinging. The Timing is also very conservative. My pipes intake and exhaust were well wrapped ages ago. Thanks for the input tho'
  17. It does have a Cam gear and some other things done to it. The engine is relatively healthy too. I might rip the injectors out tonight and run them over to an injector joint tomorrow.
  18. ok well back to my car's journey to 12's. I ranit on the SST dyno today to see what the heck was going on with the ping thing and we got 230rwhp at about 4700rpm,the afr was high 9 and there was very little timing on it. suspect 1 cylinder is to blame for ping due to the ultra rich afr. I'll have to get the injectors cleaned and try again. Doh!
  19. have to rip the injectors out now and give em a clean. not going to drags tonight none the less.
  20. I found out I'm not to blame for being an idiot self tuner. The problem (knock/ping) seems to be a single piston issue. We suspect a blocked injector or two. The afr's are super rich as I have previously dialed in more fuel to cushion any potential damage. The result was a ping at about 4700rpm that prevented us reving it any higher.power: 230 rwhp - afr : high 9 with very little timing advance
  21. ugly. and probably slow too. $17k
  22. depends what it drives like?
  23. Flywheel -- the mod is benificial to any average driver. On the time side of things, 0.5sec is quite alot in 1/4mile terms.
  24. The Kal trip I'm leaving for in an hour I get back from on tues night. Hopefully the kal crew don't give me a hang over as they are know to do. MIght handicap my times
  25. I'm running NGK BCPR7ES-11's with 0.9mm gap. Stock turbo & 10psi. Works better than the 6's. The best plug for you is the one with the right heat range and gap. This you will find by trial and error. The longest lasting plug is the platinum variety, as long as you have done the homework (see above) otherwise they are a waste of money.
