  1. the body kit is probably to hide the fact that it had a prang in japan. unless its a tommy k or a gtr there is no "special" spoiler kit. Only a "special" bus for the dealer to catch to work each day.
  2. dave is a hoon and he loves it. He just trys to milk sympathy no doubt. I lost count of the amount of times I said I'd never fix another car.
  3. the back ones tend to lean out first.
  4. sydneykid, how can I miss it? I'm sure I'd be chucking some money your way if I lived in sydney, your among the few tuners we get on this forum 'regular like'.
  5. the dyno is a tuning aid (thats one more dollar closer to being a millionaire). Do the dyno before and after the same day you put a mod on if you can and then you have a very relative guide to the improvement it made....on that day...wearing your lucky watch...and facing into the breeze.
  6. bodge, the flat 13 speaks for itself. Don't worry yourself or others over the rwkw figure. Like I said its as good as toilet paper (only fit to wipe your ass on). There are quite a few 200rwkw claims made about stock turbo's and I'm yet to see even one come good on it at the strip. I've seen a few dyno readouts that have shown 300rwhp even both cars I have made look slow in races. I'll give you the tip -- my car doesn't have much more than 200kw at the engine lets say 280hp tops. Before people start the winge ' but the standard engine has 184kw blah blah blah... ' remember that these engines we have now are far from fresh having done close to 100,000kms in my case (they don't make anywhere near stock hp at that vintage). The ATP car is basically to date is faster than any stock turbo'd gtst I know of including mine. Bottom line is " TALK IS CHEAP " so until I knock off the flat 13 it did ATP's turbo is an upgrade (if not a big one).
  7. You balance the heat range with a suitable plug gap. I would imagine you would give a small number of 5000rpm+ spurts during a day, enought to keep them clean.
  8. adam, Checking the plugs is really about finding say one plug running lean when the others are all running rich. This would indicate a problem that might be a blocked injector, valve, or water leak (due to head leakage).
  9. adam, I have had the same plug and gap in mine and all I can say is that it is the right setup for a 10psi stock turbo without a S-afc and without a HKS cam gear. I am running BCPR7ES-11's at the moment and they are an improvement. In your case I reckon 7's gapped to 0.8mm to start with maybe even a set of 8's to let rip with 18+psi and 8000rpm.
  10. adam, If the car has been running rich then they will be blackish in appearence. Good burn is light brown. lean is going towards white blisters on the electrodes.
  11. spark plugs are very good indicators usually. what type of plugs are you running?
  12. adam, if you get the plugs out and have a look it might save you from doing the injector clean. The lean plug has a blistered appearence. If in doubt post up some digi cam pics of each of the plug ends (need to be good quality) and I'm sure a few of us will tell you what they are like.
  13. ok so the ratio is good. Could be just one pot, like I said. If the fuel map is adjusted to the other 5 pots then the ratio will look right but the ping remains. Have a quick check of the plugs for signs of lean burn. Will show this even if you are not driving fast all the time. has it got adjustable cam gears on it?
  14. adam, if you don't have larger injectors or if you haven't increased the fuel pressure via rising rate reg then you can expect problems at power levels you are reaching. you may find that one piston is responsable for the ping as well, due to a partially blocked injector or something. Here's one more idea to try: Run a set of 7's plugs if your not already.
  15. Paul, when you say it had 'heaps of fuel through the rev range' do you mean that the afr indicated richness at the RPM when it pinged?
  16. adam sounds like fuel to me then. Got std injectors? are you using a rising rate reg? If not then there is an answer for you.
  17. adam, thats either fuel or timing. If the ping comes on just as you 'mash' the pedal and the engine is limited to a ceratin HP output regardless of rpm I'd go with the fuel idea.
  18. sneeza, oh... I vote for steak btw. Cook it in a pan with olive oil, white wine vinegar (or wine preferably semillion), crushed garlic, taragon, a tablespoon of whole grain mustard, thinly sliced feild mushrooms and some fresh sliced chilli (if you like the spicy stuff).
  19. compression test is compared to factory reccomendations. The cam gear timing could have a bearing on the ping issue. When does the ping occur?
  20. paul you must be about the same height as Micko? sneeza, you government types know how to make conversation don't you.
  21. try rest the ecu.
  22. RON-15H, bottom line is in stockish form the silvia is quicker. You will need an aftermarket turbo and fuel management to keep up.
  23. 100% business. Even drag kms
  24. Not much. I have to work it out cause I can't charge too much for it ( I pay capital gains tax if I make a profit and its not worth the hassle considering the 3rd year depriciation is the lowest). It will be somewhere between $17k to $22k. Basically whatever I told the tax dept it was worth last year minus depreciation I'm going to claim this year.
  25. I have put in all the time around making the car better to drive. It is my work vehicle and as such I wanted to improve fuel ecconomy, power and smoothness. All my mods are based on making the stock components work more efficiently. I think several people would be suprised at how easy good times can be extracted from my car. Looks stock and drives better/faster (even better fuel ecconomy).
