ah holidays.... I could do with just a few more of those. I just got back from a company incentive trip to Bangkok then via Orient Express to ChangMai, stayed at the Regent resort in the mountains. I tried to get the company to pay me out instead cause they blew a huge wad of cash on the trip, I could have used 1/2 of my cost to do $5k worth of mods to my car.

It was funny the last ime we went to the drags. At the start of the night there was this steady streem of people hanging around Pauls engine bay with the bonnet up. As the night wore on I had to repeat myself about a million times to people asking me to 'pop the bonnet' only to be dissapointed with the drity stockness staring back. I kept saying nothing much was done to looks of disbelief. I dispersed the crowd by opening the drivers door to allow the teargas like odour to effect them.

Other skyline owners get angry with the amount of care I don't take with my skylines appearence, several have mentioned the idea of confiscating it from me. And others have talked of transplanting the features of the southern rock cod onto the body of a common vole using gene manipulation... this is very disturbing. My R33,I think of it as my fast little 'rubbish receptical', don't litter Australia on the other hand. Wonder if I can fit a boat toilet in the middle of the back seat, puts new meaning to the words 'dump pipe' on a skyline.

Stop getting all hyped about the dyno figure. It's a peice of paper, just like toilet paper its only fit to wipe your ass on if its not being used to help tune a car. So what if the silvias got a better dyno readout. Scan yours into the computer and change it with photoshop to read 1000rwkw, then you can beat him at the races AND in a dyno paper stand off!

Well to blow a fair number of WRX's away you need to spend less than $2k in mods (assuming you already have a cat-back exhaust). See my "13.4sec 1/4mile..." thread for the mods list. I have had plenty of runs with well launched WRX's. On the street I can launch better than the drag strip. In some cases the WRX only has a bonnet length in front over the first 60ft, after that they get burnt and appear as distant rear vision images well before the 400m mark.

Did you dyno it with the bonnet down? Thats the best way to get a more realistic figure. It is always a lower figure too. I wouldn't worry about the figure if it was an improvement. The real measurement is beating that 'certain silvia' and doing some quick times around your favorite circuit or drag strip.

Last time I went to the drags there was a speedworks modifed integra R. It did a flat 14. It might have got a 13.9 even? lots of the skylines on that night did low 14's and worse. Including people with FMIC's on stock turbo's (no suprises there) This means some of the honda integras with a corresponding amount of $$ spent will beat skylines. Most modded WRX's at the drags run 12's & 13's, as such the GTS-t boys running 14's don't have a chance, rolling run or not.

If you are after a good launch then make sure you get the rear tyres with a profile of 55. You need the sidewall flex.

well the missus drives it around everyday so you might see it here or there. Otherwise I'll try to bring it (and family) on a cruise. The problem is we have a 10 month old and long drives aren't the best idea just yet.

you want a tyre on the back with a 55/60 profile if possible. Try the Simex brand. 540's are good too, once again get a tall profile even if the tyres are a little smaller. 235/245's are plenty. The lower the profile the less sidewall flex it will allow and the more wheel spin you will get.

The rear boot of the wagon contains a pram and it has not one but, two baby seats! I just need the 'baby on board' stick on now.

I run 35-40 degrees as well, no pinging. If bigger is better then you should get an intercooler that replaces your entire bonnet

I race on private roads and the drag strip.... The WRX's can be quite fast. Lets face it alot of them are modified. WRX's I've run so far I have beaten, they for the most part launch well and have plenty of legs. The top end on a good worked WRX is very good. I know that there are plenty of good WRX's around that will hand me my ass, I just haven't encountered one yet. It's interesting to note that I don't have as much trouble on the street than the drag strip getting a good launch. This takes alot of shine off the WRX's I've ran.
