  1. well...technically I'm a trev when driving the volvo too. The wagon might get to the drags later. Depends whether the kids and wife like walking back home if I blow something up...then again I could bring the skyline and we could all pile in that:D
  2. the kit cost less than $120. Takes 10 to 20min to install. I did mine by myself with a big iron bar and almost crushed my fingers into jam but, an ordinary two person team can do it with a minimum of fuss and no danger at all. Bat the eyelids at some of the perth boys to give you a hand, if that doesn't work then offer free beer. Or do both. You might want to make sure that the helpers have done the install before having said that.
  3. angel, You need some Diff cradle bushes. Whiteline suspension does the kit part number KCA349. This kit installed in the traction position will give a better chassis transfer of power. You will find cars that have suspension set too low or hard at the front suffer badly from traction issues also. As for tyres, The good old simex brand are fab for the price. Get a 225 or 235/55 for the back ( a fairly tall profile for good sidewall flex at the drags). Don't buy the simex tyres for the front tho' they radial roll too much. My little 205/55 simex tyres got me a 13.4 second 1/4 so they are not a bad pick.
  4. You must have some serious goodies going on then. The Mines GTR's have over 600HP and they still use the factory airbox (with a mines panel filter inside).
  5. Volvo Mods completed: * B&M Megashifter Quickshifter. * Sprint Gas Conversion Next mod will be the fitting of the Edlebrock manifold I bought last night for $99. Should get me another 25HP. Hosed an VU SS last night, he couldn't believe it. Ahh.. so much fun it's criminal.
  6. I noticed there was a number of silvia's and things at the karrinup shop car park on sunday. Was there some sort of cruize on?
  7. Yeah it doesn't 'feel' like I'm making that (320HP) sort of power so I guess my AFR's are a fair wack out. I've got the exhaust cam gear on as well now at 4degrees retarded. The airflow figure doesn't say much without the the AFR I guess.
  8. yeah the flywheel is good. get your self 11's if you go for a turbo combo thats good for helping the motor make 400HP. The turbo will be rated at 450HP max flow I guess as a rule of thumb. Some good rear tyres would be worth while. Apparently ford falcons have the same PCD on their rims. That means Mickey T's on a set of old 14inch ford mags for the drags, so you can do 'street tyre' passes.
  9. Mate you want the biggest internal gate GT30 you can grab. Think Grant does a very good one or buy the HKS GT3037 second hand from JapMotorsport. Get the fueling system sorted as well. With 400HP @ the motor you will spank the GTR's running std turbos. I'd say 11's with a little bit of mucking about.
  10. For those interested in guessing my horsepower at the moment the AFM signal indicates it has reached 82.1% of its maximum flow at 6800rpm. This is according to the S-AFCII. Anyone know the 100% figure? Then I guess my % can be worked out as engine power roughly.
  11. The plex is not a 'fast track' for the average street car (drag car is a different story).Have a look at most peoples 60ft times over here and you will see the reality. My times were posted on 35degrees plus nights where most modified GTS-t's ran 14seconds or worse. Would have loved to race last saturday with cool temps and fully prepped track. It's Ok to doubt the 12second pass idea, it's not the power thats the issue its my 205 tyres. It will take a good launch to get the 2.1 or better 60ft I need to crack the 12, big ask for 205's tho'. People doubted the 13.8 and then the 13.4.I like to try and put my money where my mouth is, I actually still owe a flat 13 from the last round of mod (ie: the addtion of the light flywheel) but, I only got a 13.4. I'm not walking the walk at the moment so I'd like to redeem myself.
  12. Always 'dump the clutch'. Feed the throttle as you take off. I start from 3500rpm and have the throttle squeezed to 3/4 by the time the clutch has engaged and within the moment of moving off the line I have full throttle (bout 1/2 second). I did bunch of 13.5's to go with my 13.4 last time and all around 2.1 60ft.
  13. INASNT, Got any ideas on what the car's intended purpose will be? (there could be a few other mods in that case un-related to power output you would do better spending money on).
  14. Put it this way; the actual driving performance means the most to you (no mater what your preference), so this is the best thing to measure against for any modification. The 'tuning' of only the engine components is done on the dyno, the rest is on the road/track (ie: suspension/ tyres). The dyno is only a tuning aid. The track/street/circuit/motokana or whatever is the REAL performance indicator.
  15. steve, you'll be interested to know thats flywheel PS NOT rearwheel power a common mistake people make.
  16. toluene works best with a little extra advance. Its possible the tank wasn't mixed properly, hence the better power on the way home.
  17. its not fuel delivery (ie: pump) unless the issue occurs under load. The plugs can cause this issue if too cold a heat range with too small a plug gap. Try reset on the ecu? Does the ecu give any faults in diagnostic mode? Perhaps the camshaft timing if adjustable gears are fitted, recently happened to a mate of mine.
  18. What entertainment did you provide this time Macka? Did the Motorplex organisers pay you a decent amount this time?
  19. What about Adam AKA Killer-T?
  20. Miko, You find the guys having a winge about the track prep are the ones with the particularly slow cars. The Volvo does good burnouts too. I just have to convice the wife to let me take it racing. The two baby seats make for a nice touch as well.
  21. check the base timing. Could be a problem with the AFM/s..any problems at idle?
  22. Miko, Seems a few dudes got PB's. I took the Volvo out for a spin tonight, it tells me it wants to go to the drags too. From the looks of things it will get a mid 14 if I leave it in 'D' maybe a bit quicker. I'll have to get the shift kit put in so I can get 1st to 2nd working better on manual shifts, then it might get a 13.
  23. bully, Well done mate. It's good to see you improving. Sub 14's are a good place to be.
  24. How did everyone else go? I couldn't go but, I got to take the Volvo out for a spin to the shops. Saw a Silver R32 GTR on the way back (looked like rhino's) the chicken wouldn't run me. I had to settle for some Mario in an auto commo SS 5.7, killed it easy, the look on the guys face was priceless even better was the laughter from his girlfriend. Looks like the family tank is pretty quick. Watch out skyline boys!
  25. have a look at the stock compressor maps. 300 HP at the motor is pushing it. Forget a real 300HP at the tyres that my friend is best left to the those who are dyno obsessed. 330HP? Forget it. Go buy the GT2535. Let me put it to you that the HKS GT2530 is an upgrade on the stocker but, is able to flow a bit more than 300HP (at the motor) hence a dual 2530 equiped GTR may achieve a 600HP figure at the motor (things are never 100% efficient). I know of a dyno or two in my local area that has shown a 300+rwhp figure on a few RB25DET engined cars and these cars I have beaten easy. Bottom line is they have a bit of paper and nothing to back it up with on the track or street. They really don't have 300HP at the motor let alone the tyres.
