  1. Works auto, What revs is your mates rb20 making the power at? The bottom end is just as strong/weak on both the Rb25 and rb20. they are both very small engines and will rev like hell. 2.4L stroker kit for the RB20, need I say more.
  2. Nah Rob, it will be in your car before Wed night drags mate! no front bar trimming required is there?
  3. just did mine with HBF for $832.00 year , unrestricted driver . Could have got the advantedge driver one for $690, but my wife still drives the car occasionally.
  4. You jut got to put things the right way. FMIC --- It was a repair, the orignial intercooler was not available so a seviceable replacement was put in. AIRPOD ---- 'As above' Exhaust -- 'as above' Nitrous Oxide kit ---- Who put that on my car? I swear it was never there when I drove off this morning, someone must have broken into my car and attached it without me knowing.
  5. I'd use the stock one till it stops working.
  6. 507PS at the wheels on stock BOV. Didn't even have an aftermarket plenum. I think the aftermarket ones have the lovely sound your after tho' paul, to go with the ricey stickers and big wing.
  7. Simex are good. profile of 50 or more for some good sidewall flex. Ozrace aznu tyre treatment wouldn't go astray either.
  8. Vspec, Iv'e seen a 500+HP GT30 equiped R33 gtst with stockie BOV.
  9. Steve, It makes sense, the factory one has a small air bleed (hole on the underside) people mistake for the factory BOV not holding boost at light cruise due to it being so-called 'too lightly sprung for high boost apps'. There is someone with a thread about blocking the hole off on the performance section!
  10. bit later I'll post some up. A very tight fit indeed.
  11. 240rwhp ought to equate to about 300HP @mota. Each dyno is different, and so is each day so no point comparing. BTW the compressor map of the stock turbo (R33) shows about 60% drop inefficiency at about 290HP worth of air (at the turbo with no losses). Makes a genuine 200rwkw with decent drivetrain loss, something a standard turbo can't actually do on paper. But like I said all rear wheel dynos don't tell you whats at the motor. So 210kw at the motor is probably right in a perfect world. people love thier dynos don't they....
  12. The port and valve sizes on the RB20/25 heads I though were the same? Rb20's don't make the same power for exactly the same mods. The benifit is they come in smaller/lighter cars factory and arent' a slouch of a motor. Both are good engines, same design, more cubes - more power.
  13. I have finally fitted the B&M Megashaifter. Took 4hrs last night. It has a serious interior to match the serious underbonet now. Does anyone know of a place that has sells something I can cut up and use as a patch to cover the hole in the trasmition tunnel? Some sort of carpet with a little heat shielding characteristic.
  14. shuto-boy, a BOV is a BOV, it's just that the factory one is quite good. I don't think an aftermarket one can't work as well fullstop. It's just that it seems difficult to do so (or selction of brand plays a part). If you like the noise thats what you have to do anyway I guess.
  15. Steve, I think you'd agree with me on the idea that a 44gal drum takes longer to fill than a 2L icecream container. At some point an oversized intercooler loses the race against time to fill the volume in between the turbo and the plenum. The rpm for full boost is the same (therfore no lag, cause the turbo spools at the same engine speed). However the 'time' to achieve engine speed (which is greatly assisted by being on boost) is affected by the larger volmue and distance required by the oversized intercooler. The stock intercooler is not real flash, even for the stock turbo, but if you are going to spend the best part of $2k on a replacement make damn well sure its the right size. As you mentioned before the person with the 700HP intercooler would have been better off with the 400HP unit (if thats his eventual target). Maybe the 400HP unit was cheaper as well? At the end of the day $2k spent on a 700HP intercooler(with std turbo) will put your car firmly in my rear vision mirror, with my poxy standard intercooler, over a 1/4mile, when our cars have the same mods. Get a 300HP unit plumbed up right and it is a different story. Just want people to think about how important the size matching idea is. Agree about the BOV too Steve. BTW mate do you know the flow on the standard unported RB25DET head?
  16. There are a number of people who have experienced a notable drop in response , even though they pick up horsepower, by fitting overly large intercoolers to stock turbos. Not everything performance wise is there on show on the dyno printout, unless your goal is to win dyno shootouts I would not take them as gospel. Assuming you do plan to move on to bigger things later fitting a 700HP cooler for a planned output less than 700HP is pretty dumb in hindsight. Looking at the future plan is all fine and dandy but, c'mon most of these guys still could have 'aimed' at some power figure. As they say ' aim at nothing and you hit it every time'.
  17. Rob upping the ic size and front location, is a good idea even on a stock turbo if you want that exra power or if your car is going to see sustained boost (like on the track). The problem is that if I was to ask " how much HP does you intercooler flow?" Most wouldn't be able to tell me. Then upgrading to a larger turbo, being good and all, will also mean the intercooler was not selected with a specific turbo in mind. This kind of 'bolt on' mentality is the reason 80% of all the modifed street cars (including V8s and everything else) perform fairly ordinarily considering the amounts of money thrown at them.
  18. GTS-Vspec, Not a problem. I assume you are already planing to get a turbo of the correct size for the intercooler. This thread however is about the stock turbo. And many people are blissfully un-aware of the waste of money a larger intercooler can be if done the wrong way. Look forward to seeing you rip it up with the GT30 on!
  19. Canington Autowholesale is where I got my car from (my mate and his dad ,both called 'Frank' own the place). Frank has been importing for as long as there have been 'imports'. When the laws change they have stagea plates waiting as well.
  20. The No.1 problem with cooler selection is incorrect size. It amazes me a little that people consistantly get fmic that are sometimes over 200hp more flow than required. And I am amazed even more by mechanics and tuners who make this recomendation to customers when they would never do such a thing with camshaft selection, head porting or carby size. Just pick your HP and 'then' pick the matching parts. I don't think I've seen a GTST with a stock turbo yet with a properly sized fmic.
  21. sponge bob square pants eek the cat jonny bravo
  22. you say you have no lag... but i say watch my afterburners and call lag something else if that makes you happy.
  23. 10/11psi on stock cooler is quite fine. I run mine on 10spi and it spikes to 11/12psi.
