  1. Exhaust is good place to start. check out the thread on 13.4 sec 1/4 for some more info, and to go further the 12sec 1/4 thread I started. they contain a few basic mods that don't require the change of turbo or intercooler.
  2. alcohol injection, namely isopropyl alcohol. Will allow you to go to the boost level of 22psi or so on stock internals. I know of a guy who has run 28psi quite a few times on an internally standard RB20DET, using one. sounds like you have a great little turbo there, I'd be reluctant to move to the GT35r given the drop in response you will experience. Perhaps you can do other things to further improve the turbo's response.
  3. please just tell me the settings.... The factory ecu has the same MAP regardless of what you do. I have already played with tuning it on the road, sucessfully getting a fair bit more power out of it. I am interested to see the basic curve character adjustment on the guys with factory turbo's. I can say that I have set a richened curve down low in light throttle and a progressively leaner curve at hi throttle in the higher revs. Not rocket science but I'd be keen to find out other peoples settings as a refference. BTW : with 15sec data logging and peak value memory I can tune quite well on the road (it has knock sensor values as well). I just don't like re-inventing the wheel. And please no one say 'but you have to go to a dyno' or ' every car is different' again, I beg you...
  4. Wider is better if you talk the same brand (compound) and same inflation. So its kind of old news put a different way. people ought not to go out and buy 205 simex tyres in the belief that their old 265's have less traction.
  5. It softens the rubber on the tyres, overnight. The ozrace website has it (same guys that do OzNos kits ). There are a few different componds availible, this one is reputed not to eat the tyres as much.
  6. 245's would be nice. Give them an overnight coat of ANU tyre treatment and I'd be 'jumping' off the line. Then again wheelspin is quite fun too.
  7. hard to say if they create all that much drag when that small, but generally they do.
  8. I worked out if I can get a 1.9 60ft , 104mph is enough to get 12.9 should I not fall asleep changing gears. Actually if I got a 1.9 60ft my mph would be higher than 104 and the time probably lower. then again 1.9 60ft is a little hard to do on 205's.
  9. Would people like to share their S-afc settings with us? I would like to know the Hi-throttle & Low-throttle airflow adjustments people have on stock turbos at each rev point.
  10. GTS-Vspec, The thermo fan kits need to be wired fresh. They are bought as a full kit so its easy enough. The factory airbox is all I have, the cold air partition is a must have item for a pod.
  11. I have done 5 mid 13's including the 13.4, mate. Three 13.5's, one 13.6 and the 13.4. Geez how many do I have to do already, I'm sick of going that slow now!
  12. Oh and I'll probably insulate it too.
  13. Another mod I'll add to the list is replacing the flexi tube between the turbo and the afm, probably with a metal pipe. The factory pipe is quite restrictive.
  14. yeah the fan shroud is very much worth keeping it helps quite a bit.
  15. Guys with the 16inch fan did you keep the original fan shroud?
  16. I vote copper plugs as well. They are just as good for power if gapped right.
  17. Kym, Give me your car and I'll put some toluene in it and more timing than a swatch, then you will be the RICE master:D Wait a minute wasn't there an R32 that lives down that way that already does 13's? You pretenders to the throne out with you all!
  18. Which thermo fan brand did you go for? How much was it?
  19. Jay95R33, Man can you change the kermit avitar, it's a little disturbing....
  20. mate I probably haven't spent even $2000 yet on mods, so there ya go.
  21. Missing gears? Have you got a truck gearbox or something, how many gears can you miss?
  22. gts-vspec, You didn't have the wing on when you did the 13.5, what about the other times you went down? And didn't you take 10% out of the mixtures while you were there too? judd, You should just PM Rhino, he's a WA boy so have a look for him on the WA side of the forum.
  23. judd, I can drive ok but, 2.1 60ft isn't world beating. My car is just faster fullstop. The meeting before I had ran a best of 13.8, without the lightened flywheel and with over 100kgs in the boot (work stuff). On the meet of the 13.4 I ran several 13.5's making the car very consistant. I have seen many a car (not just skylines) poorly setup, with more performance gear than you can poke a stick at and they run slower than even some completely stock vehicles. Matching each component to the purpose is the best approach to going quicker. I'd say your mates vehicles are victims. I have tried to set up my car with 'efficiency' style mods that compliment the broad power band of the stock setup and provide time saving through faster build up of revs and spooling on the turbo, something a dyno does not measure (yes there are performance aspects a dyno doesn't measure). Geez if I had 265's I may have already got a 12. BTW, ask Rhino what to do to your 'R' to get a 12.4.
  24. benm, The mods do these things: S-afc tune -- increase horsepower (through a leaner A/F ratio) HKS adjustable cam pulley --- increase torque and power by changing the camshaft timing. Light Aftermarket pulleys --- by reducing the weight you decrease the time taken for the engine to achieve any rev, also by running 15% underdriven pulley ratio from stock you decrease the drag created which restores some HP lost to that drag. Changing to a thermo fan --- as above for the drag aspect. Wider tyres --- more grip, less wheelspin--- better time. Toluene --- a fuel additive that increases the octane in your fuel/ increases the pinging threshold so can run more timing it also adds power by virtue of its higher engery content. More HP!
  25. All this talk about filters when they give sweet bugger all extra performance even over the standard. oooh.. aaah... I got 2 extra horsepower it feels so fast...wow!
