this is true. However this video is one instance where defence is unnecessary. The GTR won by a substancial amount till the limiter was hit end of story.

The setup of the -5's it's bundled off with the 0.64 AR rear as opposed to the smaller hot side on the -7's , so at 250rwkw plus it's got an easier path to push the compressor to it's potential. The -7's at 330rwkw are going to need lots of boost and due to the efficiency range will be pumping much hotter air than the -5's or -9's. The -9's are better than -7's and if setup correctly will get you the same power you have now (320rwkw) with 1,000 rpm or more of earlier spool and a larger amount of power in the lower / mid part of the power band. The key factor in getting the turbos to do what you want is to set them up correctly. The -9's are very tune forgiving and this is clear from the compressor map. I reckon -9's with a larger 0.84 housing (and custom dumps to suit) would be the ultimate with a serious build/cams.

From your comment I can safely say you are unlikely to get into the whole track scene, in fact you may not even get into motokana days. It's all good though it will save you some money. People who get into the track scene do so by saying " nothing will stop me getting into the track scene..." Then they get out by saying " the combined laws of physics, the monetary system and murphys law have now stopped me from staying in the track scene.."

Pretty obvious the GTR hits the speed limiter. I mean for the whole 15+ seconds of that race the M6 didn't move from the same place in the rear vision mirror? Then all of a sudden.... If it had the power to waste the GTR it would have done so at the 200m (1/2 track) on the first 400m. Still it was staying with the GTR till it hits the speed limiter so thats fast for an M6.

China Intake Pipe Kit For Your Gtr - A Review.

Ha ha ! Classic ! It will be the ying to the china yang -
Yes they can but, you don't need to and shouldn't. The bottle needs good ventilation around it. Taking a setup kit out can be a 10-15min job, leaving behind only a secured braided line, bottle bracket and plumbed in fogger with a couple of little screw on caps on it. Too easy It's a great option for someone wanting to go drag racing on the odd occasion. If the power requirement is only 150rwhp or so then you can get something like the Zex solenoid setup that looks to me to be the easiest to plug in and un plug quick for a visit to the strip. Although I believe they only offer smaller kits. Adriano, 11's with stock intake (not restrictive really) stock Turbo (2rismo has already done it with a fairly small shot) and stock exhaust (well thats the nasty bit) do-able still. Little bigger shot needed perhaps a 125 to 150hp-ish. Food for thought.

Which Direct Replacement Turbos Gtr
rev210 replied to DAS KAMU's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
thats actually what the garrett site says about the -9's on the -9 page. Meaning if you had -7s' /N1's you can attach these -
It's not lashing out when you consider that the shims can cost you more than the new HKS/Tomei etc cams do. You really need to make sure that whatever grind you are offered there is no 'building up' of lobes going on. These cams are very long to make matters harder and this is why we can't go getting local billet units done (that would beat the pants off the one size fits all we are stuck with). The long cams mean straightness and balance are super critical or you end up with 4 peices of cam.
-
Waste of time and money. Just get some off the shelf units. To get the lift and duration you will need to alter the base circle. You can only go so far before needing to build up the lobes with weld. That is a no-go for this application it's super dodgy. Billet units or nothing for such extreeme applications.

Which Direct Replacement Turbos Gtr
rev210 replied to DAS KAMU's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I can confirm this. go to garrett's website and look at the compressor maps. The -9's flow alot better. The compressor map reveals how they are an even match to the -7's in spool and then keep pace with the -5's in the 30lbs/min flow region in terms of efficiency. The -5's are then the king once the limits are reached on the -9's efficiency island. I wouldn't touch the -7's now that these are an option. -
Shot of nitrous is the quick and easy path. Once setup it can be as little as 15min to get it on or off. So easy and you can have a bog stock looking car all over and run 11's when you like at the drags.

the -9's are GT-SS units 'not' the -7's. -7's are smaller. -

How To Prep For Drags In My Gtr?.....im I 1st Timer...
rev210 replied to nsta's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
As suggested a sidestep is a good way to go. You have traction control at your right foot for driving out of the hole, you don't need to go the mash the pedal necessarily. It can be very exciting to do the whole race but, there is plenty to get out of the 60ft first. Try to listen and observe what the car is doing each time initially to get the most from the practice and try not to care too much about the full 1/4. The gear changes are easy by comparison on low powered cars like these but, the 60ft is all about consistancy and finding the formula for your perfect launch. -
Do you want to build a hand grenade? or a motor thats going to last? If you are just sticking a high km second hand block underneath then some gaskets a little machining isn't going to cost much. timing belt & tensioner kit ; ring nissan for prices (they have gone up) If you post your location people can give you places to ring.

What Turbine Housings Do You Run On -5's ?
rev210 replied to rev210's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Making the dumps isn't a big deal in the scheme of things, that sort of power delivery is something else. Do you have any graph of the engine dyno to hand that you can post? -
What Turbine Housings Do You Run On -5's ?

Thats what I was looking for. The 0.86 A/R I was thinking might be the go on the -5's with the RB30 even -9's. -

rev210 replied to rev210's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I've attached the turbine flow's for -5's . The larger turbine housing might be a good ticket for an RB30. -9's have this as an option too. -
Acutally if you post this up on a few forums around the place you will get a fair few along who fit the profile. My Camry is fulleh sik uleh!
-
Just wondering if there are anyone who has played with both the larger 0.86 and the 0.64 AR housing for the -5's?

The dodgy filters have blue foam. They cost about $19 from just jap so if the diameter was the same then you could throw away the rest of the filter and keep the foam. Give me the diameter of the trust set and I'll check for you.
