  1. Underbody neons can be used whilst driving, as long as they do not effect ground clearance, are installed with all connections and wiring in a safe manner with a seperate circuit and switch and they must also meet the adr for lighting, ie no red or blue neons, other colors are fine. Your head lights are factory like this, obviously he had no idea. wiring under dash that is loose or can interfere with the operation of the pedals is defectable handbrake, well he has to find something else to fill the space on the defect and honestly every car could be defected because the officer beleives the handbrake to be unroadworthy, remember, they dont have to proove it, just assume it. As for the number plate, yes you can be fined twice, regardless of body kit modifications etc. Under Victorian Law tthe officers in question must give you, badge number, reporting station ( where they are from), current rank and superior officer's name. If they fail to do that they have broken the law. You will find one of the officers name and numbers on your fines, then write to the office of police integrity about this, be specific in your complait, dont exagerate or manipulate the story. Also send a copy of the complaint to the station they are based from. It may not help you at all with your double fine, but at least you can make it hard for them at promotion time in front of the police board. As far as the double fine goes, dont ask for advice on a forum , you will get 100 wrong answers, go to a lawyer that sepcialises in traffic infringements and get factual information on where you stand.

  4. After attending a BBQ today at a friends, who just happens to be a serving member of the Vic Police, this subject came up. We were able to have a sensible discussion and threw around some ideas. Although we looked at it from 2 different points - the police - the rev head - we looked at these points. The media - Media in society teaches us things, perhaps not the whole story, perhaps not even the truth. So listenining to the media everyone who owns a modified or performance car is hoon. The general public who watches classy programs like TT and ACA is sppon fed this propoganda and beleives it. Widening the gap between car enthiasts and "normal people" Blame for something like this event needs to be placed somewhere, the media can blams the hoons for the riots, but in doing so also have a subtext that anyone in a modified car or performance vehicle is somehow different than normal and maybe a hoon. The dickheads - They drive hot cars, do illegal burnouts and cause riots, but they call themselves entusiasts when in fact they are pathetic pack hunting dickheads. Unfortunately through the dickheads poor behaviour the honest people suffer ( defects etc) The Police - NP has been a hot spot for some time, is a well known area, the princes hwy in general has been the scene over the years to many a drag race, so dont act so surprised when something like this happens. Or is there more to it? Surely when the call for back up was made it was looked at as to how serious the matter. or did the police use this as an example to help them justify other things. ie - the police turn up, out numbered and out of position so they can campaign for more police, higher wages or more power against the hoon? Propaganda is a serious weapon, senoir police know how to use it and be political. Our Up Bringing - When i was little there was no ADD or the likes, you were naughty, given a smack and sent to your room. But nowadays society teaches us to be tolerant and not to smack children, talk to them instead. We make excuses of ADD and the likes, we see things on television and film that are "pushing the boundaries" being deliberately more shocking and thus making us numb from it all. Perhaps this tolerance has gone to far and we are now out of control of things. Imagine in ten years when this is considered small time and people are used to it, how bad will the behaviour be then? Respect - Or the lack of it. Most people in life have had to work hard for what the have and they respect their property and that of others. But today, honestly, how many kids are buying good cars as their first car, they write it off, buy another etc, how many have lost the value in things to a point where they simply do not care how much damage they do? How many 14 yr olds act like they are 20something and rule the world. The solution - This was the hard part, sure the police needed a different response, but hind sight is always 20/20, prevention was definatley needed here. Discipline from the families of these kids. The police having a more active presence prior to the event. And after the event, consequences for those involved, not a slap on the wrist or a pety fine from some limp wristed judge. I hope all this makes sense. I dont pretend to know all the answers but just thought I would chuck my 2c into the debate.
  5. after you have taken them to court and won easily, remember to claim every expense that is owed to you. Also a letter to the Office of police integrity would be a great idea. A black mark on an officers file will last a lot longer than a defect of bull***t charge on your car.
  6. CRAP! The above post is complete CRAP! Jb hifi purchase in bulk for their stores. They work on a turnover basis rather than a GP ( gross profit) basis. All items are sold with a full 12 month warranty. Some like Sony are even sold with 2 year warranties. This is guaranteed by law as a new electronic product must be covered by a 12 month manufacturer warranty. this applies to display stock as well. Alpine do sell to JB, however not the entire range. The refuse to "dump" product on Jb just for the sake of it. Pioneer have in place a minimun buy quantity on units. Most suppliers to Jb have to provide a % rebate based on wholesale turnover. Ebay = CRAP from overseas without Australian warranties. Honestly, before you come on here spouting crap, do your homework and be right with what you say.
  7. Interestly enough the stinger stickers on the WILI ( chinese made) terminals fool most people into thinking they are superior. There are only a couple of factories now that make bulk cables and battery terminals, they all use the same materials, the cables have different color jackets ( the insulated plastic) put on them with different names and the battery terminals have different stickers on them.
  8. BINGO, there's your problem right there another low skilled Autobarn monkey trying to do a technical job. My suggestion would be to take to the unit to a Viper specialised installer and they will sort it out for you. I thought everyone knows by now not to go to the mass retailers for alarms, they know nothing and generally do crap work.
  9. The prices are fairly ordinary if not above retail in most cases. Especially factoring in that Pioneer/ Alpine and other jap brand head units are now all discontinued with new models due out end feb/start march as happens each year. Go to a retailer and you should be able to get a better deal and knowledge reather than send an email and hopefully get a response.
  10. Fusion amps do have protection for over and under voltage as well as thermal and of course overload. I would look at the wiring, either there is a short with the key turned on, perhaps a speaker wire seeing a positive or a negative it shouldnt The earth connection to the amp is loose and only becomes loose when the car is motion The rca's are shorted and feeding direct dc voltage The remote wire is dropping below 10.2 volts and may require a relay to be put in to boost it up a bit. Not sure why i quoted everyone, maybe i just wanted to look cool in my first post of the year.
  11. i am gonna take a guess at the black widow bw10000, it's 3 point etc and is all black wired. Of all the dodgy products that the strahtfield chain has sold over the years the BLACK WIDOW alarm systems are very relaible and actually quite good. ( dont let anyone from trashfield near your car to work on it, they will wreck it) The Black widow 10000 can be integrated to an external turbo timer fairly easily. If your installer is telling you he cant do it, it just means he is not smart enough, take the car somewhere else. As a tip, i would recommend a turbo timer with a hand brake safety feature.
  12. back to the Question. Unfortunately there are too many variables to answer this question with any certainty. Variable 1 - Vic Police can inspect a vehicle and if in the officers opinion he/she thinks it is unroadworthy can issue a defect notice. Most officers would not know what was legal or not, so they tend to defect a car to make sure it is checked and legal Variable 2 - Officers length of service. A serving member of the Victoria Police who has recently graduated and in in his/her probation period prior to confirmation ( ie first 12 months out of the academy before becoming a real cop) is required to have a certain amount of stat's to show they have been an active member of the force. Stats are logged by shift, by post and these can include traffic offences or briefs ( where they send someone to court for a more serious offence). Get someone out of the academy with a point to prove and you could be fined. Variable 3 - The Victoria police standard practice of " the attitude test". Basically a cop will pull you over for something random to see how your attitude is, fail the attitude test and bang, there is your defect and possible fines depending on how badly you fail the attitude test. These are 3 main things that a senior contact in TMU told me just before I posted this. However, you do have some rights and responsibilities. In short it is your responsibility to make sure your car is in a roadworthy condition when driving on public roads, that you obey road laws and drive in a safe manor. You do have the right has a motorist to ask for the police officers name, badge number, station and supervisor. You also have the right to take the matter to court to appeal your fine/ defect etc and to seek some compensation if it can be prooved that your vehicle was roadworthy at the time of being defected. You also have the right to complain if you feel you are being constantly harrassed by police and this can be done to the office of police integrity.
  13. Buy direct in mahoneys Rd Thomastown are the place to go. Paul and Dom will actually help you find a set of wheels that fit unlike a certain sydney company that will take your money, ship you crap and not help you.
  14. If you find a workshop that is dodgy enough to do this to your car, then please, get back in your car, drive away from them and never return. As for what the Pro's think, here's some quotes from this thread..
  15. Hey mate, I have a 96 series 2, 3 point alarm, external TT, no problems at all with integration. Most installers that tell you it cant be done just dont know how to do it. Which is great for you, it tells you they are not good enough to work on your car. There are so many alarm/ turbo timer combinations it is not really possible to list them all. Perhaps if you could give us a budget and a location (state) you would receive a little better advice.
  16. My 2c. Firstly ditch the factory head unit. Low quality output and amplification is not helping your cause. An aftermarket headunit would sound a lot better and give you preouts for amplifiers, plus if you get the right installer they should go in with no gaps. 2nd - Get a 4 channel amp, front splits, rear 2 ways, sound deaden the front doors and rear shelf, this will improove bass response, possibly have a look at my favourite product right now, Fusion, 4 channel - ppam8004. front splits ppcm65, rear two ways ppfr652 3rd - if steps 1 and 2 arent floating your boat yet, add a sub and amp pack, a single 12 with a good mono block will do the trick, it will also mean that you do not have to try to make your 6" speakers produce bass and can highpass them ( take the bass away) effectively meaning you can run the speaker harder, get more volume and with the sub not loose bass. Try the Fusion pp-112pk Hope that helps
  17. one thing to remember that if cut or modify the metal within 300mm of a child restraint on the rear shelf you have just made the car instantly defectable. Depending on how your car was complianced and the position of these restraints you will not be able to cut at all. If you do put them in, get busted and have to fix it. Easy, weld in a new shelf, repaint it, get an engineers certificate. Honestly mate, not worth the time, trouble or headache.

  23. just cars is about the only one's that will touch you. with a poor and short driving history ( you already have a history of speeding) and your age i'm surprised they even offered you cover. Always go for full comp, otherwise you might end up really out of pocket, no matter if it your fault or someone elses. If you cant afford full comp then dont buy the car. as a side point... most first cars get thrashed and crashed, with your history of speeding and your inexperience why dont you start with something a little easier to drive, a little less powerful and maybe you or your mate in the passenger seat wanting you to go faster in your skyline wont be the next cross on the side of the road.
  24. wow, this is still going, and to think it was my first post.. and I still think leave the LED out, but hey, its all about choice, this was intended as a guide, but i am sure there are only a few hundred more ideas and suggestions to help keep the car safe. In the end, if you come back to where the car is parked and it is still there it is a good thing,
