  2. Yep, but the badges are GTSR badges and the guy suffers a little from "GTR wannabe" syndrome, in that he's hell bent on making his GTT look like a GTR. It's an R34 GTT.
  3. AFAIK each prefecture here is free to spend it's budget on whatever cars they see fit. The majority of the city patrol cars in my prefecture are Toyota crowns, though there are several R34 GTT's, 4 door, unmarked patrolling the expressway near me and I've also see a black/white GTT. I've yet to see a GTR cop car though...
  4. Great pix! Gotta love the old skool sylines, truly classics. Although they're quite rare elsewhere, you still see a fair few over here, though most are used on hot summer weekends only, for car shows and the like... Some of the pics show Red Park, a nissan museum north of Tokyo. I went there a few months back, great selection of skylines both old and new, including the wide bodied LM R33 GTR
  5. I was thinking the same thing. Unlike the NEO engines, AFAIK there wasn't any major changes made to the RB26DETT in the R34. Maybe some ecu/fueling tweaks but that's about it. Personally, given the amount of time, effort and money it would take to swap engines, wouldn't it be better to spend that on mods for your existing engine? Unless, of course, the reason you're changing engines is because the existing one is screwed? If you're going ahead with the engine swap, might I suggest you swap in the getrag 6 speed box while you're at it!
  6. So long as you get the right offset, and your car is too low (and I mean low!) then you probably wont have any trouble. To give you an idea of what they'll look like check out this site - owner has an R34 GTT with 18x8 and 18x9 enkei's... R34 GTT on 18's
  7. The polics's emblem, crest, sheild whatever you call it. You find it outside police stations, on police boxes etc. The police here are pretty good, you can drive just about anything and not get pulled over. that includes trucks with more lights than a xmas tree, vans with wings bigger than most planes and modded cars with exhausts the size of sewage pipes and blow off valves loud enough to wake the dead and deafen the living!!! Though, I have never seen a commodore in Japan, so I can't comment on that. Come to think of it, I've never, ever, seen a commodore!
  8. Nice pics! I've seen the R34 GTT cop car in the metal, there's one that patrols on the expressway near me. The majority of the expressway cop cars I've seen though are un-marked, usually 4 door R34's. Round town, they tend to use Toyota crowns, but each prefecture is free to choose their own police cars and some prefectures have better tastes than others (namely mine!) Always wondered what the plastic screen on the bonnet is for? Can't be good for aerodynamics that...

  11. The GTR (and the GTS4) needs to have the same size wheels/tyres all round otherwise you can run into problems with the ATTESSA torque split system. For the GTT, there's no problem having different sizes from and rear. Standards are 17x7.5 +40. Most people go with 8 or 8.5 up front and 9 to 9.5 at the rear.

  13. Good result. That offset should solve the rubbing problem you have, though it *may* cause the tyres to rub slightly against the inner black plastic guard at full lock. Don't worry though, no damage will be caused to either the tyre or the plastic guard. I had the same thing happen with my 33 and I ran the same wheels/tyres for 2 years without any adverse effects...
  14. I wouldn't worry about the tyres rubbing against the inner guard. It isn't likely to do any damage. You could remove the plastic if you want, but personally I'm inclined to think Nissan put it on the car for a reason so it's probably best left there.

    The place I live is called Futaba, not far from the main city of Kofu in Yamanashi prefecture (basically a huge valley flanked on all sides by mountain ranges, including the southern alps and Mt Fuji) Here are a couple of pics to give you an idea: Yamanashi Valley at night One of several lakes around my neighbourhood View from my office at my house and an attached file showing some of the fields near my place. As I said, out in the country. Sorry don't have any showing the streets, shops, restaurants etc near me - but rest assured, they're are some!
  16. They usually go (used) for anything between 40,000 and 70,000 yen. They plug directly into the wiring loom of the GTR, so I'd imagine you'd have to do a lot a wiring to get one to work in a GTT or R33 GTR - maybe even need the complete R34 GTR wiring loom/ecu. I'm only guessing though, I've not met anyone here who's done the conversion and I've not found any sites on the net with how to go about it. As with anything, if you've got the time, skill and/or the $$$$$ anythings possible! Hell, there might even be a "upgrade kit" for the GTT available to buy, though I've never seen one myself...
  17. I think everyones circumstances are different. If you're debating whether to go N/A or turbo, no one can really tell you what's best for you - that's something you'll have to decide for yourself. For me personally, I chose the N/A route because at the time power wasn't my highest priority. Choosing N/A mean't I could get a better car for my money, more importantly I could get THE car I wanted for my budget. With N/A I also got the added (and welcomed) bonus of: Cheaper Insurance cheaper on fuel and it's less likely something will go BANG! The downsides are obvious - less power and less modifying potential. Do I regret going N/A? Nope. But my next car will be turbo'd...

  20. Nice car! That's one heavily modded GTT dash you've got there. The top console looks like the aftermarket sat nav system availabe from Nissan, however the actual TV unit coming out of it does not look like the Xanavi units normally supplied. Here's the one fitted to my wife's Nissan Cube: So it is possible to get something akin to the GTR's MFD in a GTT!

I've been debating what wheels to get for my R34 for over a year now (kinda fills in the time saving up the money too ) As a result I've been on just about every manufacturers site checking for compatible wheel sizes/offsets. As a general rule of thumb, for the R34 GTT's (and I'm guessing the 33 GTSt's) you want offsets of around: +30 to +38 ish at the front +35 to + 40 at the rear. The lower offset at the front is to ensure the rims clear the inner suspension, strut, lower arm etc. The higher offsets at rear are just to push out the rear wheels a little more. Clearance on the inside of the wheel isn't really much of an issue. But really, the ideal offset depends on: the size, particularly the width and style of the wheel (deep dish etc) Your choice of tyres How much the car is lowered How much rubbing/scrubbing your prepared to live with! If you're having problems with the wheels you have now, you might want to consider using some spacers? They'll decrease the offset, pushing the wheel away from the centre line of the car (i.e. sticking out of the fenders more) and help reduce scrubbing on the inner edges...
  22. When you say TV on the centre, I'm assuming you mean the optional pop-up sat nav/TV system available from Nissan (originally the Xanavi system or something like that?)
  23. No TV (MFD) in the GTT It's found in the GTR only. GTT gets 3 centre gauges similar to those in the R33 GTR. You can of course install an aftermarket stereo/TV/navi system (as I have done) but you don't get all the MFD displays/functions. (boost, RPM etc etc) It's possible (so I'm told) to buy an MFD unit, the wiring harness etc and hook it up on a GTT. Occassionally someone will be selling a unit on Yahoo Auctions Japan, though they usually fetch anywhere between 40,000 and 70,000 yen...

Hey May Boyz (nice one! ) Thanks for the invite...I really want to go as it'd be a great opportunity to head out to Kobe/Osaka etc, check the cars and hang out, but unfortunately I can't make it.. :) One of the kindergartens I work for has their English Music Festival on those days. Since we're doing a bilingual play and as I'm the lead role there's no way I can get out of it without letting them and the kids down big time... Sorry! Next year I'll try and make sure it's scheduled for a different weekend! Hopefully we'll be able to arrange something later in the year. Dave
  25. tis the other way around. The greater the positive offset, the more the wheels are "pulled" towards the centre of the car. at 0 offset, the hub is aligned exactly with the centre line of the wheels width (i.e. 4inches on a 8inch wide rim) Positive offsets bring the hub closer to the outer face of the wheel, thus the inner edge is effectively pulled inwards. The reverse is true of negative offsets. To see if a set of wheels will fit I often use this online utility: Wheel Offset Calculator Regards Dave
