Being a mechanical engineer, I can't be bothered filling in the gaps. BUT the CAI box is like stated designed to reduce heat soak into the pod and keeping the hot engine bay gas out of the intake system. The transmition form the engine to the cooler pipe through the cooler wall, is insignificant, as there is always air moving through it, hence the reduced boundary layer, means air does not really heat up much. In my case, the HKS pod is BIG and when in traffic, it use to heat up heaps, and the car was sluggish, inconsistent and generally crap. Once fitted with the CAI intake temps were reduced dramatically, I have a log somewhere. This is mainly due to the fact that the heat from the engine bay is not being ingested by the intake system, and traveling through the I/C and so forth. With the addition of thermo foam to my CAi and sealing it off a bit better from the engine bay, the car is even better. During summer this year, when the outside temp was 38 deg c, the CAI only saw a 2 degree rise in intake temp; this is great, this is stationary too BTW. Anyway, it does help the car, but it is not necessarily measured in power, it's about response, drivability and consistency.

WogsRus replied to WogsRus's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
OH it's getting bolted, just need new seals, the turbo seam ok as is, but i don't want to put it in and have to pull it out again. Propably in the next month or so, still unpacking the new house. -
My $150 Turbo Specs, Compressor Side

thanks mate, that is what i am aiming for, as i don't want a new ecu or injectors, just somethign that won't spit the turbine out the rear end. -
OK Bit of an Update Got new LOW king springs, thanks Questy. Install over the next few weeks. Adjustable cam gear to go in, looks nice and shiny red, have to install it allong with the new belt ect. Started to take my $150 turbo apart, the RX7 Hybrid, the A/R is .89 with 59 trim compressor, rear housing is standard slidy highflow rear, should be ok for some decent numbers. New Coils arived today, replacment set for the old ones, these ones look much nicer and sturdier then teh old DS005 set. New alarm being installed this weekend, Thanks Tod. Now all i need is more time to do the rest of things.

Well for those who remember, i got this turbo of gBay. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...2896&hl=RX7 So i finaly took it apart, and actually got soem numbers for the compressor. Compressor Size (mm) : Humm is it the inner or the outer part, Exducere is 70mm, inducer 54mm. Compressor Trim: 59 Compressor Cover Ratio and what it's off: RX7 front A/R .89 or so i am lead to belive, however i mesured it to be somwhere about .65-.75???? Turbine Size (mm) : Couldn't get the housing off DAM IT. But it's same as slides rear rb25 high flow. Turbine Trim: as above Turbine housing Ratio and what it's off:It's an RB25 rear housing high flowed. As the turbo is in good nick, once i clean it up, and put seals through it to make sure it does not leak. Would it be ok on an Rb25?

It's not just about power gain, it's about sheilding your pod from the hot inside engine bay temperatures. Cooler air means denser air, more air to compress, more bang = more power. But the main differance is the reduction in heat soak with a proper sheild and CAI. BIT like this http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...9816&hl=CAI

thanks guys, never thorght about the box, will have a looksee over the weekend.

UPDATE, Page one has some specs and more questions -
I've seen this in the flesh, Blakes done a great job fixing it up. Good luck with the sale but i can vouch for the quality of work. Well done. Pity it's no good for the new setup.

any internal work, also how lagy is the turbo and what brand?
-
Yeah i checked that, the engine doesn't actually move when you start it much, and i certainly can't move the engine in either direction when off, looking arround the mount, it appears fine, no cracks. Will double check though.

Hi Guys Well i have this funny Clunk Noise on start up, especially when cold, it's like when the engine is just about to fire, it sounds like a pipe or something is hiting something else, and making a hollow clunk sound. The noise, sounds like it comes from the pasanger side of the car, but when i open the bonnet, i can't hear anything when i start it up, it sound normal, so i presume it's under or at the back of the engine. I have looked at the engine mounts, all good, no cooler pipes hitting anywhere that i can find, engine runs great, no noises or anythign else other then this. Once the car is warm, the sound is not there most of the time, i presume that is mostly as the engine is a lot easier to start when warm. There are only 3 or so clunk noises when you start it if you know what i mean, not an on going sound. It doesn't sound mechanical, more like a screwdriver hitting the top pf a plastick bucket, exactly like that. Any ideas what to look out for???????????

well i've been getting 400 to a tank reguraly now, no idea why, but up by 150 km, love it.

Im Curious Whats Your Vacume?on Idle
WogsRus replied to cosworth1971's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
well i have tested mine so much i cna't find any leaks at all anywhere, and mine still only sits at 18" mercury at idle at 650 rpm and about 19-20 at 750 rpm. Any common leaks to look out for, did a whole heap of test break clener, carb cleaner, smoke, pressure, all good. -
DAM i wish i was there, but the house had to be finished for this mornings floor layers to work. AND to add insult to injury i broke my BIG TOE, and f**k it hurts, all black and blue.

Ok well if you go to the targa page, there is a requirament list. We competed in Targa Rookie Classic Class C. We needed: Fire extuinguisher Battery cut out Fuel Cut out if fitted with electronic pumps Role cage, Cams approved with papers, seamless tube, all bent and wealded as per the rules Fire suits, gloves and face mask, ADR approved helmett. You need a first aid kit Triangle for breakdowns Tow points in red, indicated with a sticker These are the main have toos Then thre is a whole heap more, like battery triangle stickers, they give you those, tiedowns for any loos items, Terra trip is not required at all. MAKE SURE You have good pace notes, we didn't and crashed. LOL. Your car needs to be registered and road legel, well roar registered under special interest at least, so all lights must be functioning ect.
