  1. massive difference between 256kmh and 400kmh when it comes to aerodynamics. as above, there is a reason why the veyron needs 1000hp to do over 400kmh and the veyron supersport which has a revised aero package and an extra 200hp only does about 20km/h faster. pretty sure it only takes about 200hp for the veyron to do 200kmh, so it then takes an extra 800hp to do the next 200kmh and that is in a car designed to go that fast from word go. so don't think it's just a case of bolting on a few mods and then being able to go as fast as you'd like. moral of the story, if a skyline could easily go faster than that speed of the supra, then so could a supra tuned by someone else. what i'm really saying is that without some stupidly powerful drag car engine putting out a few thousand horsepower, you won't get a skyline or a supra much faster than 400kmh. as for your mates 33, 2 things. for starters, if it was running stock gear ratios (or close to), then 256kmh would've been close to redline. i had access to a closed airstrip once and i managed to get my r33 up to roughly 240kmh (did require starting and finishing on grass) and that was 6500rpm in 5th gear (and that is how i calculated speed since the speedo only goes to 180kmh, but 3250rpm is roughly 120kmh, so double the rpm and you double the speed). secondly, don't forget to take into account speedo error. at that sort of speed you could expect the speedo to be out by 10 to 15kmh. even a digital speedo will be calibrated to read faster than the actual speed by a small amount. the faster you go, the bigger the difference.
  2. well then in that case, you just narrowed down the amount of cars you can bag out for being a holden as the commodore and the cruze are pretty much the only 2 cars made by holden. no wait, you can also bag out the new chevy camaro as that is made by holden and badged as a chev. but the main point is that they are sister companies so basically all the cars are made by 1 parent company and then badged in whatever brand is required. ahahaha, yeah. visial difference between r30 and r31 is bugger all. r32 is just a rounded version of a 31. they then changed if a bit more for the 33 but then went back towards the r32 with the r34.
  3. depending on how stiff the coilovers are will determine how much grip you have off the line. stiff suspension = wheelspin city. stock suspension will actually give you a better launch than lowered suspension.
  4. i'll check that against the wholesale price tomoro but i guess it is probably cost price. don't get the point of shops selling it at such low prices (unless they really need to get rid of it). it's good for customers but from a business sense it is stupid. why spend $3000 on products to only make a few dollars on it when you could make the same amount of profit from a much smaller investment? it also then ruins the market because the consumer expects to then be able to buy it at that price all the time, which makes it harder for shops to be able make a profit, which is afterall, why they are there. unless of course they are buying stuff from overseas websites and bypassing the aussie wholesaler, which can lead to much bigger problems. for starters, no warranty, so if the customer has an issue the shop has to fix it out of their pocket as the aussie suppliers are really cracking down on this and are starting to suss out which shops are buying stuff from OS and shutting their accounts.
  5. digging up an old post, i was looking at prices on groupsets at work today. the RRP on a full XX groupset is around $4500. what should be noted is that that price includes the rockshox sid XX forks. without the forks the groupset RRP is around the $2600 mark. so if you asked them for a price on the FULL xx groupset and they looked up the pricelist, it would've said around that sort of price. if you did get the sid forks for that price, let me know where so i can order a heap of those groupsets because that is well below cost, LOL

  7. decent tyres and suspension and even an ecu with launch control will help a lot getting it off the line.
  8. yeah both s1 and s2 have VCT. also, slightly off topic, don't make the rookie mistake of thinking the s2 has the ignitor built into the ECU like many people do. it is built into the coils.
  9. that is actually incorrect. for starters, holden is owned by general motors, who also owns chevrolet. secondly, in the middle east, the commodore is sold as a chev (this is why the kelly brothers racing commodore was painted up as a chev when they raced in either bahrain or abu dhabi - can't remember which, as it was representing 10 years of holdens of various types being sold there as chevs), in the same way that it is also sold in the UK as a vauxhall and in the states as a pontiac. as for the GTS/GT crap, i'm guessing it was just a change in the marketing and has little to do with wheelbase and all that sort of crap. from my info, the wheelbase is the same in the r34 between GTR and GT and GT-T. any difference in wheelbase between models that were would be would probably be down to suspension geometry as it's only 20mm, which is bugger all.
  10. as bronx said, you will need bigger injectors to get that sort of power. the stockers generally max out around 240 to 250kw, as does the AFM. that said, with those you should be able to get around 400hp, but that will be th eupper limit of what the stock internals will hold and still be somewhat reliable, so don't be suprised if it goes bang not too much longer. to the original post, for the cost of converting a gtst to a gtr you could build a stupidly quick gtst which would shit all over a lot of gtr's

  12. pretty sure mine did, but it was so long ago now. my current car doesn't and i've been thinking about getting a new cap to see if it makes it hold pressure a bit more as it may also improve my fuel economy a tiny bit. in your case it may be the cap that is the issue (or more to the point, the little rubber o-ring on it) or possibly the rubber seal around the top of the fuel tank where the fuel pump is accessed.

  20. well at the ad break before the last one they said "1 more after this one", so they will only have broken the promise if they go to another ad break from now on.
  21. if the knock sensors are registering a high amount of knock then it may come on. easiest thing to do would be to check the fault codes, or have them fill it with premium fuel and reset the ecu and see what that does. generally the CEL refers to an electrical issue (or damaged sensor). won't refer to the physical condition of the engine in 99% of cases
  22. how good are we? LOL it's caused by a low pressure area allowing the moisture to condense a bit. you see it quite a bit, just on wet races where it's a bit darker you notice it more. you also see it from jet fighters when they bank, as well as sometimes in the redbull air races.
