It would be interesting to hear people's coffee habits as well to see how that may be affecting their sleep, given that it stays in the system for quite a while

Exhaust Manifold Studs - Rb25Det - Help Please
mad082 replied to tripsteady's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Lane change assist is just a reversing sensor on the side of a car. But I'm sure people said the same thing about efi, then multi-point efi, abs, knock sensors, afms, vct, electronic speedos, etc. -
drive side up means laying on it's left hand side (non drive side), so that the derailleurs aren't being squashed. and i've never had any issues with bikes being damaged being laid flat, even carbon bikes. maybe the odd scratch if they aren't on a carpet, but no structural damage. i've also never had any issues with disc brakes being damaged, as they are kept off the floor by the frame. but there is the issue of the carpet getting dirty. doesn't bother me though as i have a commodore wagon, lol.

i prefer having my bike in the car. as long as it's laying drive side up then there's little chance of damage, and it's out of the weather. just remember not to drive into the garage or into an undercover carpark with the bike on the roof. put a note on the cluster when carrying the bike if need be. i see people tearing bikes off the roof a few times a year. usually results in the bike being written off, and if you're unlucky also some serious damage to the roof of the car.

Exhaust Manifold Studs - Rb25Det - Help Please
mad082 replied to tripsteady's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
it's pretty safe to say that in most instances, even using normal studs, most people won't own their car by the time it needs them replaced again, and in a lot of cases the engine would've needed to rebuilt by then -

I don't think so. How often do you hear of people having problems with abs? Most of the modern driving aids are just glorified abs and traction control. -
R33 Gtst Series 1 Vs 2 Intercooler/ Engine Bay
mad082 replied to Skyline_034's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
The ones where the intercooler pipe comes from the drivers side have had an aftermarket front mount intercooler fitted. The ones the cone from the passenger side have the standard intercooler piping (they may still have an aftermarket front mount intercooler though, as some use the standard piping). It has nothing to do with being series 1 or 2. If you want to know the differences in the engine bay between the 2, search on here for the thread that details all the differences. -

Just call your local exhaust shop. Despite what many seem to think, skylines aren't much different to any car on the market and don't need any special treatment compared to any other car. they are just a sporty family car from the 90's. Pretty much every new car on the market has more technology under then bonnet than a skyline. -
I still recommend the timber idea. No need to get all fancy with laminated ply, etc, but just some sleepers and cut some pieces off then to make the supports. Screw them all together so you don't have to worry about anything. Just store them in the container and just slide them out when you want to get the car in or out. They will be light enough, strong enough and cheap for the few times you want to use them. And it doesn't matter if they aren't the perfect height. If your car can't handle a 25mm (2.5cm) height difference then it would have trouble getting onto any type of ramp.
-
Take a trip to Bunnings, etc and head to the timber section. Get some garden sleepers. You can easily make some ramps out of them that will hold the weight of a car, especially if you brace them in a few spots where they are off the ground.

I'm guessing you have an aftermarket ecu. So your hard starting when cold will be tune related, not oil.

+1 lol

Light blue 32 4 door on the highway in gympie heading north this arvo with his dog in the back seat

If you are running somewhat high boost, yes. If it's relatively standard then they will be a bit cold. They will still run ok, but just might foul a bit

I wish there was a way to get a proper dos setup on a modern computer so you could run old games without dicking around. Especially just using a dos menu program. I think the one I used to use as a kid was quick menu. I still have some of my old games from when I was a kid. Some dos based, some early Windows based. I have need for speed 2, 3 and 4 all on cd, and x-wing.

By clean you mean "intact"?

Yeah from the plenum is fine. From before the turbo is best (so you know exactly what the turbo is doing) but then you don't get a vacuum reading, so that can make diagnosing other problems harder at times.

Ticking Noise Under Boost - R33 Gts25T
mad082 replied to tripsteady's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
A ticking noise under boost generally means a flapping gasket (either busted manifold stud or lose bolt). Simple to look for. Check all the manifold studs are still intact. I'd also be looking for the cause of boost controller issue. -
The only way you will know for sure what the boost is is to get a boost gauge, which I would thoroughly recommend.

Hope the cameraman is ok. Just wrong spot at the wrong time. The first thing the missus said was "why don't the cameramen have to wear helmets too?" Which is a valid question, given that it isn't the first time that it's happened.

I don't have the demo, but I'd read that there was only 1 track, so I'm willing to be corrected. But as said, it's a gateway for gt academy rather than a straight demo, hence the size.

I would have to disagree to a certain extent. The stock fan is moving all the time, just moves faster when hot. If you use the aircon you want the fan moving all the time, regardless of speed or engine temp, plus if you have a fmic then you have reduced airflow through the radiator, etc. Don't get me wrong, I've seen the thermofan operating specs for a different car and you are correct in a lot of what you say. When the aircon is off then they only operate if the temp is over a certain amount, and speed is under a certain amount (I have a screenshot of it on a computer somewhere). Having said that, it's been a while since I looked at it, but I sort of recall that they work at full speed at low vehicle speed and low speed at high vehicle speed (so not fully off). When the aircon is on then they operate at full speed, regardless of vehicle speed (only when the compressor idea engaged though I'm guessing). I may be wrong about some of that though. As I said it's been a long time since I looked at it. But at the end of the day, being able to run the fans all the time as a failsafe isn't a bad idea. I'd prefer it to running the risk of boiling the engine in the event of a failure. Not to mention that it would act as a way to let you know that something has gone wrong.

Heard them say something mildly interesting during today's coverage (during the pre-race bullshit). The tyres they use only cost about $320 each. I'm guessing that would be because they get them direct and they are a commissioned item, etc, but I still found that pretty cheap.

White smoke can be oil (will often have a blue tinge to it) or water. Check the water level in the radiator (when cold obviously) and the oil. If the water or oil look like a milkshake then you have a blown head gasket. If the water is fine, but oil is low then you have an oil leak (possibly because of worn piston rings, valves or the turbo is shot). Either way, your immaculate skyline has a possibly serious issue, other than the blown clutch, which may be pointing towards it having a hard life.

The only local computer shops I can get to are dick smith (they know nothing) or harvey norman (they are ok, but don't keep much stock of hard drives) because of work. I leave for work at about 7:30am and get home after 6pm, so that narrows my options down a bit.
