You only want to go 7s for high boost applications (aftermarket turbo). For standard turbo applications, or if the car sees a lot of traffic driving, then 6s are the better option. As for gap, if you can run the 1.1mm gap and not get a misfire then do it. If it starts to misfire then reduce the gap until it doesn't. If you have good coils then you shouldn't need to reduce the gap. As been said earlier, when it comes to plug gap, bigger is better.

I Test Drove A Few Skylines Today, Few Questions

The car should have both the blue import/compliance plate (can also be a green plate, yellow plate or pink sticker/plate, which is put on when the car is complied once it is in Australia), plus the silver chassis plate (which is put on in the factory in Japan when the car is first made) -
Yep, he's out of a coma. Pretty safe to say that it'll be years before he's ever at another f1 event, if he ever makes it to one again. His head injury was bad enough that they put him in a coma. That has to say something about the extent of his injuries and the sort of condition he will be in. I think that if his condition wasn't so bad then there'd be more news and would've been more updates over the past 6 months.

Supercars.. No Its Hypercars Now
mad082 replied to Kisuu_Buta's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Nothing new with car companies being generous with performance times. There's certainly question over the r35 gtr lap time around the ring after porsche went and bought one from a dealer, took it to the track and their driver couldn't get within 25 seconds of Nissan's claimed time. -
They have the money, yes, but given that no performance changes are allowed to be made to the engines, only "reliability" changes. So we won't see changes to their pace till next season. Even then they can't make massive changes. As for rbr vs str, I'd say that aero package and chassis, and possibly even gear ratios, are the reason for the speed difference.

I wouldn't say that dan had a small window when it came to passing perez. He was stuck behind him for ages after the last pit stop. For a few laps it looked like he had more chance to get overtaken by Vettel more than get passed perez. Had Dan been able to get passed sooner then Vettel would've gotten second instead of third. I was actually kind of cheering Vettel on for once in that race (after Dan). It would've been nice to see Mercedes being beaten in full on racing rather than just limping around for the second half of the race waiting (and waiting and waiting) for the rest to catch up and pass them.

I'm always amused when people get excited about the return of a brand or model name. And pretty much everytime a name is brought back people get upset that it isn't just a new version of the old version. Or that get upset that a name gets scrapped, despite the fact that there is still essentially the same car being made. When Nissan scrapped the pulsar name for the tida name is a prime example. The pulsar fanboys got upset. Then they got all excited when it was announced that it was coming back (despite the fact that the platform was always there, just with a different name). And then got more excited when the sss was announced, and then were disappointed when it wasn't something super sporty, or didn't have the now massively outdated sr20. Sure datsun may make a return, but they will never be like the iconic cars of old. Emissions standards, safety standards and general consumer expectations of spec (aircon, air bags, cruise control, abs, efficiency, comfort, etc) all mean that the car will always mean that new cars are nothing like their relatively prehistoric predecessors.

I Think I've Messed Up My Timing Belt Change
mad082 replied to mistermeena's topic in General Maintenance
And as I've said multiple times, just because exhaust came out the intake doesn't mean the crank was moving in reverse. It means the timing was out by 90 degrees per cam, as you have said in your original post, as this has the exhaust cam opening on the up stroke of the piston instead of the down stroke. If the engine was running in reverse it would actually be sucking air in through the intake at this point, not blowing it out. For the engine to be spinning in reverse and having the exhaust come out the intake, the timing would have to be setup normal, or 180 degrees out per cam, however this wouldn't actually result in any issues with running (since every second rotation of the crank puts the cams at 180 degrees out, since the crank turns twice for every rotation of the cams), so it would run in the normal direction thanks to the starter motor. If I get some spare time at all I could make a basic animation showing valves opening and crank/piston direction and position proving I'm right if you like. As for the starter motor just being a weak 12v motor, try putting a manual car in gear, put your foot on the brake and then try starting the car and see just how weak that motor is. I'd suggest not doing while in your garage unless you like having the car inside your house...... -
I Think I've Messed Up My Timing Belt Change
mad082 replied to mistermeena's topic in General Maintenance
The fact that has been ignored by everyone but me is the starter motor. The starter motor spins the engine at a few hundred rpm, and you don't actually stop the starter turning the engine over (by releasing the key) until you hear it come to life. So for the engine to run in reverse it would either have the shear the teeth off the starter motor, or start running forward and then backfire so severely as to be able to make the engine run in reverse. Look, I'm not really debating the fact that the engine ran with the cams 90 degrees out, because I'm sure it probably could (despite how my previous posts might imply). What I will debate though is the fact that the engine was running in reverse because of it. As I said above, the starter motor determines which way the engine spins, and just because exhaust gases are coming out the intake doesn't mean that it's running backwards, simply that the timing is way out (as I said in a previous post) -
Having fresh tyres late in the race the commentators were saying how he was the fastest man on the track. He only passed a few cars, having massa and perez crash out in front of him jumped him up a bit

My R33 Won't Go In Reverse Gear Need Help
mad082 replied to AaronWihongi's topic in General Automotive Discussion
There's a small chance that the issue is clutch related (have seen issues trying to select a gear when the clutch isn't disengaging properly), but I don't think that is the problem this time. I don't suppose the car has a short shifter installed? Because that may cause the issue if it wasn't fitted correctly. The issue more than likely lies with the selector inside the box, so it may be a somewhat simple fix, relatively speaking (would still require the box to be removed and opened up). -
I Think I've Messed Up My Timing Belt Change
mad082 replied to mistermeena's topic in General Maintenance
yes, basic physics. You said that fuel and exhaust coming out of the intake. why? Because on the exhaust stoke gases come out of the engine, and since the intake manifold was acting as an exhaust, fuel being fired into the manifold gets blown away from the valves, not sucked into the engine. Not to mention the damage to the starter motor having an engine trying to fire in the opposite direction to the way it was being turned. Now I'd certainly believe the timing being out far enough to have some cylinders being out of sync to have the intake valves open on the exhaust stoke, but certainly not all of them because that isn't possible. Why isn't it possible? Because as I explained, if all the fuel is being blown out the intake then none is getting into the engine to make it fire. And fuel being blown back out the intake doesn't mean the engine is running in reverse, simply that the timing is way out. -

mad082 replied to mistermeena's topic in General Maintenance
Was it actually running, or just being turned over? Cause if it was running, where was the fuel coming from? Injectors in the exhaust manifold? And the engine itself would've still been turning the same way as normal, since the starter motor determines which way the engine goes..... unless you roll start it down a hill going backwards in a forwards gear (but then there's the whole lack of fuel issue to keep it running) -
Yeah certainly sounded a little but suss. Every other time they'd choose to come out last so that they can shut the car down early if they aren't going to be beaten so as to save the tyres, etc. It's going to be an interesting run into turn one. I think that if homo can get in front into turn one he will lead from start to finish. I don't think britney has the overall pace that homo does, he just managed to turn it on for 1 lap

If the water level was rather low then it may not have been holding charge because of that. There may also be an issue with your alternator not charging. It may be the alternator itself or the wiring.

Water & Brown Sludge Etc In Spark Plug Holes :(
mad082 replied to Emrarrr's topic in General Maintenance
Sludge around the spark plugs simply means it's had an engine degrease by someone who was rather happy with the hose. This has screwed the plugs and coils. New coils and plugs and it will probably run well. -
With the relatively short run from the start line to turn 1 in Canada, we might actually see a car other than a Mercedes leading a lap in 2 weeks time if someone can get a good start from row 2 if the mercs lock out the front row again.
