  1. sr20, rb20 and rb25 all have the same part number. if the rb25 one you put in made it run rich as hell, then the sensor was faulty.
  2. baaaaaaaaaahahahahaha, totally missed that
  3. the knock may just be cold engine noise, but it may also be something more serious. hard to say
  4. painting is a shit job. not just the painting but the prep work. expect to spend a lot of time sanding. as for cost of setting up a workshop compared to spray shop, i don't know about that. good spray guns cost a fair bit (few hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars, and you will need more than one) plus you will need sanders, polishers, a good compressor, spray booth, welder and basic tools (spanners, etc). a workshop just needs a hoist (they are pretty cheap), basic air compressor, tools. i have mates in both professions and they both hate their jobs. moral of the story, if you like working on cars as a hobby, don't do it as a profession. you will end up hating working on cars.
  5. this. a dodgy slip doesn't make it legal if they can easily prove that it isn't legal. you might as well just hand write something on a napkin. no point going to all the trouble of getting a temporary solution made up if you can then get fined 10 mins later. i should also mention that a lot of places also take pics of the cars they pass so that if the owner then makes changes which make the car illegal and tries to say that it was passed like that, the workshop can prove that it wasn't like that when it passed.
  6. what part of the sunny coast are you? i work at noosa and have a timing light you can borrow. installing a CAS isn't rocket science, and if you see it somewhere in the middle it would be more than safe enough to drive to your local mechanic (especially if you still have the stock ecu as it will back off the timing if it knocks, as long as your knock sensors are working ok).
  7. passed a black 33 4 door in cooroy about 5:30 this arvo. looked fkn stupid. stupid "hella flush" offset with the rear tyres sticking out past the guards, and a different offset to the front. just looked like he walked into a tyre shop and bought 2 different pairs of wheels without checking the offset.
  8. *facepalm* god i hate stupid people.... saying that you "fill to the top" is totally pointless if you don't take any notice as to how many litres you are actually putting in. yes the tank holds 65L like a turbo one does, but if you are only putting in 40L when the gauge says you are out of fuel. if were to simply compare the kms you are getting before the gauge says the tank is empty and compare it to someone else then of course your economy will seem ordinary because their gauge may be more accurate than yours, however your actual economy when calculated accurately may be better than theirs. long story short, next time you fill up take note of how many kms you did and how many litres you put in. from this you can calculate an accurate fuel economy figure to go off. the formula to use is Litres of fuel divided by kms travelled divided by 100. so if you do 370kms, and put in 40L of fuel then you would do 40/370/100 = 10.8L/100kms.
  9. from what i can find the part number is the same, so yeah they are the same
  10. both the r34 GT-t and the GTR are quoted as having 206kw at the flywheel (all factory quoted figures are at the flywheel) however the GTR actually puts out more power. and yes, the non turbo is 147kw (again, at the flywheel) which would work out to be about 150hp at the wheels
  11. yeah my guess is that it had the taller diff ratio. puts it in persepctive for all the NA import fanbois who like to brag about beating commodores and falcons, when first gear is as tall as second gear in a skyline. try launching a skyline in 2nd gear and then see how it compares to the aussie cars.
  12. the gauge sensor and the ecu sensors are right next to each other (well they are on the rb25, so i assume they would be on the 26 as well).
  13. +1, that's about 200k cheaper than the road going version
  14. i think your speedo may be a fair bit out then. just checked the gear ratios and the max speed you should get out of it is about 90kmh (check my calculations against my commodore gearing and it was pretty much right).
  15. lol, not to mention that they require totally different servicing techniques/intervals, and parts can only be bought from shops where the owner has 2 different colour eyes, is left handed and only 3 days after a new moon.
  16. you can, but it's not really worth the effort. trying to find a rolling shell isn't that easy. easier and more cost effective to just part it out.
  17. that's not that tall. how many speed gearbox in the au? and what are you reving it to? father in laws AU only does about 70 in first (about the same as my vt. they'll both do about 120kmh in second. or is the au a v8? they run a taller diff, but not that much taller (3.08 vs 3.23)
  18. and a metric buttload of money (especially in a car meeting race specifications)
  19. you will have to get a custom one made. there are a few places that can do it.
  20. this. no point walking into the workshop you want to tune it and handing them an ecu they've never seen before. if you plan on having a certain workshop do the tune then use the one they recommend. even if it isn't the best ecu on the market, having them tune something they know will give better results than getting them to tune an ecu with all the bells and whistles that don't end up getting used because either they don't know that it has them, or they simply can't set them up properly.
  21. as zebra said, if you have stock ecu then you will be losing power because the airflow rate for a set throttle % will be much higher than the ecu is expecting (AFM voltage vs load voltage) so it will be backing the timing off and richening up the mixture to keep things safe.
  22. you can run an auto with a PFC, it just won't be as smooth on gear changes as the stock ecu sort of, yes. you can run it without the VCT being activated though.
  23. have you tried some different weight oils to see if that alters the pressure?
  24. turbo civic motors going to be the new mclaren motor in 2012? hope they make sure the drivers are prepared for when it hits v-tec
  25. yeah he always gets boned by that. he would've won bathurst if it wasn't for the stacking. the fact that he and whincup generally aren't that far apart on the track means that he probably has to do it more often than any other driver
