  1. maybe get an airgun hooked up to a compressor and stick that in the hole and give it a blast. might dislodge the crap blocking it.
  2. if it's 3" it will be loud. turbo's act a bit like a muffler so that means that a 3" exhaust on a turbo car will be much quieter than on a non turbo. also being 3" you may find a loss in low end power as 3" is much too big for a small displacement engine.
  3. gts-t with money WELL spent will beat a relatively stock GTR. you have to remember that the AWD of the GTR will only help out of the slower corners. once traction is no longer an issue it is just extra weight. moral of the story, if you spent 8k on your GTS-t and didn't notice the difference then you did it wrong.
  4. only reason i could think of them being different is if it was from a non turbo. other than that, as long as you don'g have a front mount intercooler it shouldn't be an issue (which stops the snorkel fitting)
  5. everything above is correct. there have been various cars over the years running carby turbo setups. in fact there was even a turbo VB commodore (unsure whether it was a holden thing or just a thing done by a few dealers). very rare. a mate of mine actually has one of the setups tucked away in his cupboard.
  6. well that says a bit. the manual falcons and commodores are pretty hard to get off the line cleanly because of the torque (wheelspin easily) and the tall ratios (easy to bog it down if you don't fry the tyres). the v8 versions are even harder to get off the line cleanly. first gear on them is basically only really usable for parking. out of curiousity, what sort of times were you and your mate running?
  7. plus it sounds like you are talking about a modified skyline, so there is always a chance you may get there and have it not allowed to be driven on the road, or simply put off the road for being illegally modified. for the cost, plus the mechanical stress put on the car i'd rather use someone elses car. having said that, for the money that it would cost you to get yourself and the car over there, you could probably organise some top speed even using public roads (closed off obviously) much closer to home. but then you wouldn't get the holiday at the same time.
  8. was it auto vs auto, or manual vs auto, or manual vs auto? that will alter the outcome. but just because you beat him on one run doesn't mean shit. when i took my magna to the drags i beat a r33 GTS-t in one run. as for how hard he can push through corners, a lot of that comes down to the confidence of the driver.
  9. and the supercharged ones are even better again
  10. don't bother changing the oil, probably won't do a thing. if changing the plugs solved the issue then you know that it is spark related. although it may also be fuel related (running rich). i think the viva's have an issue with the TPS which may be causing it to run rich. are you sure that it was oil on the plugs and not fuel mixed with carbon?
  11. with a consult cable you could check the temp sensor. the software will tell you what the ecu is reading as the temp, and if it's not right you will see.
  12. i think there is a coolant line running through the manifold (or is it the throttle body, or both, i can't remember). that may be the issue. or somehow coolant is leaking through the turbo. might be worth pulling off a cooler pipe and seeing what is going on.
  13. i have a crappy old VH commodore that just sits in the yard and never gets driven other than to move it to mow the law (when i could be bothered to move it). it normally takes about 30 seconds or so of turning over to start. i used to disconnect the battery but then i got lazy and stopped doing it. i just recharge the battery about once a year with a charger, but other than that i think the longest i left it was about 3 months without starting the car and i was surprised that it still started. but it has no alarm or anything like that.
  14. i like the fact that webber, unlike most drivers, will admit when he's cocked up in most cases. there's some drivers out there who could run off the road with no-one around them and they'd try and blame oil put down by a car in a race 3 years ago before they'd take responsibility for the fact that they out braked themselves, or ran wide, etc.
  15. you can't see it easily from the front (it sits in front of the passengers side front wheel, hidden by the inner guard. however if they make you pop the bonnet they will be able to see the cooler piping going to it, or simply the turbo.
  16. unless you stop at the top of the hill then using the turbo timer is useless. you have to remember that the coolant will keep circulating even after the engine is turned off thanks to the laws of fluid thermodynamics. also it may be worth trying going up in a lower gear and using less throttle. to a large extent the amount of work the turbo does comes down to throttle percentage, not rpm. you can go up a hill in 4th gear doing 80kmh but have to pretty much floor it so you are on full boost, or you can go up in 3rd gear at a higher rpm but lower throttle and not at full boost, which is much better for the engine and turbo. might be worth thinking about in the steeper parts of the climb. all of this is spot on. letting the car sit and idle for too long when cold does more damage then driving sedately for the first few mins. the car actually takes longer to warm up when you just let it sit and idle. and yeah, the turbo will cool down pretty quickly once you get back on the flatter roads, especially if they are highway speed, since you get maximum airflow with minimal positive boost.
  17. baaahahahaha, if i could be bothered i'd sig that for the lulz
  18. in every test i've ever done i've never seen more than a 5% difference between fuel types, and that is across a few different cars. derrick, if you saw a 25% difference in economy then there is something suss going on. it may simply be that the pump you have gotten the other fuel from cuts off earlier than the other, so you are getting less fuel in.
  19. i wouldn't even use one on a paddock basher, but that is just my opinion.
  20. you would be best off saving up and buying a crappy example for 3000 or 4000 in a few months/years, rather than a bare shell (which is all you would get for $500. that way you won't have to source windows, wiring and all that sort of stuff that would add up very quickly. it's all well and good to want to build up a project car. it's another thing to spend many times what the car is worth in the process just to get it to stock condition.
  21. can you set it to only stay on for 1 second? or 0 seconds even?
  22. yeah just the same as natro.
  23. yeah faster than a nun's first curry, but i'd still take an aventador based off looks.
  24. for the GTS-t there is 4 from memory. there is 2 S1 types and 2 S2 type3. could be wrong though, but i know there is at least 4.
  25. unless the hills require you to floor it everywhere then you don't need a turbo timer. if they were so important then nissan would fit them as standard. driving the last 30 seconds of your trip somewhat sedately will cool the car down more than sitting on the spot for 30 seconds after flogging the hell out of the car.
