  1. i'd still take the veryon. but i'd take a lambo over both and then spend my days drive back and forth through tunnels at full noise in 1st gear oh and as for the toyotas not having 100k timing belt services, would this be because they run timing chains? plenty of cars run them and don't require them to be changed at 100,000kms. all sr20 motors do, hell even the old datsun motors do.
  2. depends on how the hose is popped. if it is still mostly on there then it can simply leak under boost but idle fine, but it will run pretty crappily under boost. that said, if the wastegate actuator is stuffed then it may run no boost. normally though it's the other way round and it will run unlimited boost. i'm not saying the turbo isn't stuffed, just giving other possible causes
  3. i can think of a few possible issues. first would be the height of the engine. second might be length of the engine and gearbox. 3rd would be the weight of the engine. it would be much heavier than the rb20, so it will probably affect handling as well. having said that, i would love to see it done, and it would be a weapon to drive, just don't think it would be the easiest or most practical engine conversion.
  4. so is the stock radiator in the missus SSS pulsar, LOL
  5. see here http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/271517-r33-auto-vs-manual-ecu/page__view__findpost__p__4650946 can provide links to the lower spec power if you want as well. yep, wind the boost up and away you go.
  6. may possibly be that you've just popped off an intercooler hose. if the turbo had gone you'd have heard some horrible noises to go with the pop. but it's pretty simple to check the turbo. simply unbolt the dump pipe.
  7. yeah as said, the stock gauge doesn't read in PSI, so don't expect your aftermarket gauge to read 7psi when the stock gauge is reading 7
  8. that ferrari handled pretty bloody well for only 3 wheels, LOL
  9. they can have some pretty shocking service costs (R35 gtr for example, LOL). one of the regulars at work was saying that he'd just had his toyota serviced (klugger or something like that) and it cost him $170 because he has fixed price servicing, but his RX-8 was due for a service. he said he wouldn't get much change from $1000. $12 change to be exact. or dodgy AFM, o2 sensor, low compression, leaky/very dirty injectors, sticking brake caliper/hand brake, and various other things could also be possible causes
  10. no, they only run or 6psi. they run less boost than the manuals, which is why they also have a lower quoted standard power (180kw vs 184kw) just make sure you have a turbo back exhaust. you could buy and install the boost controller yourself (just get one of the $30 turbotech ones off ebay, they work very well). just make sure you have an aftermarket boost gauge. then if you want to know what power it's making then you can just get a power run done and save yourself about $100
  11. the guy that plays "McDreamy" on greys anatomy races in the american le mans series. did remind me of when back in the day (mid to late 90's) one of the f1 teams (can't remember which) let mick doohen have a run in one of their cars. pretty sure that his top speed at the speed trap end of the straight was faster than the regular drivers. have to see if i can find the article in the magazine.
  12. with a full exhaust, front mount intercooler and the boost wound up to 10 or 11 psi you should get 170 to 180kw without needing to touch the ecu.
  13. you could just go to your local exhaust shop and get something made up.
  14. i don't think the flares on the rear guards are helping the situation either...
  15. pretty much sums up my thoughts as well. unless you were frying the tyres in 1st and 2nd, i wouldn't be so sure. you have to remember that the ecu in the focus backs the power off a bit in the lower gears to help with torque steer.
  16. hard to keep left on a 1 lane road, LOL as for posting crimes on facebook, half of the deadshits already do. they post up telling their friends about how they have to go to court, etc, so it's not like it's not common knowledge amoungst their friends. making them stand in the middle of a mall in the city in the stocks with their name and crimes on display might do it something though, especially if you are allowed to throw rotten fruit at them because i think that even their friends would join in.
  17. that lambo needs to be renamed to the Lamborghini Awesomeness because that's what it is
  18. if the exhaust gas temp light is coming on and off then the o2 sensor won't help. in most cases it is because the sensor is stuffed and shorting out. i think there is a plug under the passenger seat that you can unplug to stop it coming on
  19. big problem with removing speed limits is the massive variation in speeds that you would get. this would actually increase road rage by a large amount. not to mention drastically increase P plate fatalities. only part of this would be due to road condition, but would also come down to car condition and driving to the conditions. could you imagine it in the wet? but back to closing speeds/speed variance. i'm no angel on the road and i've had a few moments when i was younger where i've done well over the speed limit out on the highway late at night. i discovered 2 things. 1: it takes a suprising amount of time/distance to slow down. 2: it's hard to judge just how fast you are closing the gap to the car in front until you start to get closer, by which time you need to start to get on the brakes pretty early. it was my fear of the car in front of me being a police car (and one time it was) that made me slow down at a reasonable distance. i think that there would be many P platers who would be pushing it faster and faster and then not start to brake until too late. if there happened to be a car coming the other way then it's going to end 1 of 3 ways. a head on collision, a rear end collision, or the car speeding running off the road to avoid the other cars. i had a cousin killed by a drunk driver. before that i had little tolerance for drink drivers. now i have absolutely no tolerance for drink drivers. i think they the punishment should be much harder than what they are, especially for people seriously over the limit. oh and as for name and shame, i actually think that we need to bring back the stocks. a lot of people would be more scared of being locked up in the stocks for a few hours (possibly a few hours a day for a few days) in a public place where people could come and laugh at them or even through rotten vegetables. for a lot of criminals public humiliation would work better than locking them up out of view.
  20. plenty of people don't do that. a mate is a mechanic and the amount of people that get it serviced the day before they leave is shocking.
  21. i've always been of the opinion that if you are going to service the car before a long trip to do it about a week or so before so that you have time to fix any possible issues that may arrise before you leave rather than being stuck on the side of the road somewhere.
  22. this. it's pretty darn easy to sit on the speed limit without having to watch the speedo like a hawk. if you are worried about it then drop to just below the limit. they are speed LIMITS, not minimum required speeds. you can sit on a few km/h below the limit without really impacting how long it takes to get to where you are going (ever seen someone going flying past off into the distance only to pull up beside/behind them at a set of lights a few mins down the road?). i drive 62kms to work everyday and my trip time varies by about 5 mins (on a 50 minute trip) from my slowest ever trip to my fastest trip (other than trips where i've been held up by roadworks or backed up traffic at a school near work).
  23. yeah i can think of quite a few corners where there would be piles of commodores stacked up on the side of them if there was no speed limits. also make crossing the main street a bit more of a challenge. as it is half the time cars are doing 10 to 20km/h over the limit and regularly fail to stop at the pedestrian crossings.
  24. original side scrolling DN games FTW
  25. under no pressure at all really. they are just breather hoses. you could replace it with garden hose in the short term. as for putting something other than fuel or air into the engine, i'm sure plenty of people initially thought the same thing about diesel, ethanol, methanol, LPG and various other things that are used as fuels and/or additives. the foaming engine cleaner is designed to be run through the engine. but yeah, taking the manifold off and giving it a thorough clean is the best option if you want it fully cleaned. this would also allow you to use an aluminium cleaner to really get it clean.
