Clutch Slipping Badly!
Quinny replied to RUF32R's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
The flywheel cost $44 to get machined, we checked the rear main and it looked ok so didn't bother changing it. Just changed the flywheel, clutch plate, pressure plate, thrustbearing and gearbox oil. Like I said before, if you are doing it yourself it is a mission. We didn't have a hoist or anything, just the car on stands and 2 jacks to lift the gearbox. -
From what I can see here, the hi-flow is no good for big power (i.e. 250rwkw or more). What about 220rwkw? I think that would be a nice target for a regular street car. I am looking for a turbo that is not too expensive and will bolt up with minimal modification. I was thinking of using a GCG hi-flow at around 14-15 psi with FMIC, PFC, EBC, full exhaust, probably GTR fuel pump, and maybe some Nismo injectors. Is there a better turbo for this application?

If yours is a 33 GTST, then you are looking at 5 hours labour - about $350- 450 depending on your mechanic. Hence the reason I did mine myself. -
Interesting question, how does one bond ceramic to the shaft? Is the shaft ceramic also?
-
A ceramic wheel or shaft should be more heat tolerant than a steel one. Cermic pieces are fired at over 1000*C, steel won't take that. I would think that it would be the pressure of the forces pushing a ceramic shaft at very high rpm that would cause ceramic to crack, where as a steel blade will be much more tolerant than these forces. Just my 2c.

Yeah, I wasn't too sure about it either, as far as I know, the Z31 300ZX had a single turbo VG30, but I could be wrong. My mate said the AFM he had was from a 1985 VG30 Z31 300ZX.
-
I realise that the Z32 isn't hard to find. Hell, even my mum has one (...no, really, she does). My mate said that he doesn't get Z32's as often, and had a few Z31's sitting on the shelf. I was just asking because this one was cheap. Even $150 for a Z32 one seems ok.

Here is some pics of the car -
If the Z31 would fit, I could get it for like $50. I know that my mate can get them from Z32, but they are a little more uncommon, he said they have heaps of Z31 AFMs in stock. He said $150 for a Z32 if he can get hold of one, so I told him to keep an eye out, I don't need one straight away.

I got an Exedy Heavy Duty clutch for $420 from Martins Clutch & Brake in Campbelltown. The cost for installation is pretty hefty, my mechanic quoted me 5 hours, and I can see why. I ended up doing it with the help of a couple of mates, took us 3 days, it is a mission of a job.If you pay someone to do it, expect to pay upwards of $400. -
Yes, I now have a second full time job - trying to keep my car clean. I washed it on the weekend and it was dirty again before I finished...
-
Really, even though they are both the VG30? ...Bugger....
-
Just wondering if the Z32 AFM is the same as the Z31. I will be upgrading the AFM on my R33 GTST soon, and a mate has a Z31 AFM at work for cheap.

Here is a pic of the GTR rims on my car, should give you an idea of what they would look like on yours. They look pretty hot dude, I reckon they would be awesome if you can find a set.
-
Thanks mate, I had a feeling that might be the case, an R34 box would be alot of screwing around and probably rather expensive for the extra gear. I don't suppose a 350Z box would be any better?
-
This is a bit of a double post, but I might as well make a contribution to the My Rides thread: Black R33 GTS-T 17" SSR rims lowered Turbo-back exhaust, HKS pod filter Nismo indicators Braided brake lines

dezz, post up a 3/4 front shot of your R33, I will do a chop with the GTR wheels, and paint it pink if you like
-
Just wondering if a 6 speed box from an S15 Silvia could be transplanted to an R33 GTST. It is just a thought, I have no idea what would be involved (bellhousing, crossmember, clutch...?), or which box is better/stronger. I just think that an extra cog in the R33 would be the icing on the cake.

Anyone Have A Rb25 Highflow From "sliding Performance"?

Is that one ball bearing or journal bearing? What is the price? What sort of boost can it support? -

Spend another $5000 on a second hand blower kit and it would make close to 300rwkw. -

Selling my genuine VN SS project car with Holden V8 stroked to 5.4L and T5 manual gearbox. I have $7000 in receipts, but have spent more than that. Car needs a little work to finish it off, hence the cheap price. The good stuff: *Pro Stroke offset ground 308 crank to make displacement 328ci *Come Racing 222 duration @ .50”, .500 (12.7mm) lift camshaft *SpeedPro Pistons - 9.6:1 comp, chev rods, ARP rod bolts *Reconditioned heads with new valves, springs, k-line guides and valve seats *All new bearings and gaskets *Reco'd borg warner LSD diff with 4.11 centre, new tailshaft *Pacemaker headers with twin cats, 3" piping *Engine chemically cleaned and fully balanced *5 Speed Manual with Exedy Brass Button clutch *Bosch 30lb Injectors brand new *VN SS Interior (series 2 with the better front seats) in good condition *Rego til December 06 *18" mags with good tyres *Pedders lowered suspension F&R *SAAS sports steering wheel *AU twin thermo fans *Should make approx 200rwkw once tuned Now the not so good stuff: *Engine is not tuned. Engine will start but cannot be driven until tuned *Car has standard VN front bumper, no SS bumper or driving lights *Needs a little bit of work on panel gaps (see pics in link below) *Needs new windscreen Apart from the tune, the work required to this car is minimal. The car is being sold cheap because I have purchased a new car and have lost interest in this project. I will post up pics a little later, or they can be emailed to you. Please PM, call or email me if you are interested or have any questions $5500ono. Ph: 0411174831 Email: [email protected] -
If you just want 16" stockers, Skyline or 200SX 16" rims should be pretty easy to find. If you want 16 front runners, Weld Racing ProStars come in 16", no doubt Dragway and others do the same. This link might help a little: http://www.rocketindustries.com.au/search.php?menu=Wheels

That is what I am thinking, I have been burnt using cheaper parts before, hence the reason I am going for good parts rather than cheaper parts. Ultimately, my car needs to start first time, every time. I can't afford to have the car off the road for any reason, so if I have to spend a little more money to ensure that, then so be it.

This is a little better, still not great. This is a pic of my car with the SA-70 rims.

I think those rim pics are better suited to a 3/4 shot. However, I gave this one a go, doesn't look particularly good, the brakes make it look a bit crowded I think.
