  1. hahaha ok. The point IOWNU was trying to make was, it is rediculous to think a RB30 is automatically going to be better than a "certain" RB25. Its true what he says. Just because someone has an RB30det, it doesn't mean its not going to be beaten by a RB25det. As I said, its not the be all and end all. You've got to get yourself out of the narrow minded rut your in. Have appreciation for all motors.
  2. There's your problem. They're all SR and CA lovers over there. What would the majority of them know about an RB. And vise versa of course
  3. So you are running a programmable computer/PFC???
  4. Dude man you've got to understand that for some people their idea for modifying their car is not going to be the same as yours. Your on a public forum, opinions will be given. Some would rather stay with a 25 and push the motor to its limits or maybe they don't want to push them at all. Others like yourself would just rather have the 30 and have the instant benefits that go with it. Maybe it comes to cost for some. Maybe they would rather spend their money on other aspects of their car rather than spending it straight into a rb30det build. From my knowledge and being on SAU, it is very rare for someone to say that a RB25DET is superior to a RB30DET. In fact i haven't even seen that statement on here before. Everyone one knows it does everything easier as you listed in one of your earlier posts. For you to ramble on what most of us already know is pointless. For you to ramble on like the RB30det is the be all and end all is also pointless. Its not like we all have to follow a rulebook and all have to do the same mods to our cars. Personal choice, personal opinion. That said, if I had cash to burn, an RB30DET would be nice.
  5. i've had one on my car for a year and a half. No drama's here either.
  6. hey paul, while we're on this subject, could you get a rough cost for a plug-in unit for a MY00 WRX??
  7. Lol heck no, I considered it once though.
  8. haha but the chemical sweetners will probably kill you quicker anyway. Whoops majorly off topic
  9. because pods are loud on skylines. If you want silence, hook up a standard airbox again if its possible.
  10. If anyone hasn't read the website yet here it is. It may answer some of your questions. It may not. http://www.vi-pec.com/
  11. Wait on now. The plug in version for the Skylines is based on the V44 ECU/Motherboard. So shouldn't that in theory make the price cheaper...???? $1540 for the V44...? Taken from the ViPEC website. And as Paul mentioned before the plug-in ECU based on the V44 have six injector and six ignition outputs so its not like the V44's are limited to 4 cylinder cars. Then again he did list this also: Nissan GT-R (R32-R34) (V88) Nissan GTS (R32-R33) (V88) Clarification please.
  12. Update time. I ran the oil for 15000kms and chicken out. I dropped it and put a fresh drop of Fuchs in along with a filter change as you do. I didn't send the oil off for sampling either, as I didn't really have time to do so or get a sample kit in time. The reason why I didn't commit to the 20 000kms change was because my travel time in the car is not long. I do short trips a majority of the time, so I saw 15 000kms as my cut off point. I'm starting to conclude that maybe 10 000kms is just adeqaute for me and my driving habits. Although I am quite sure the oil did its job just fine up until the 15 000. The car baheved just the same and nothing out of ordinary happened while the oil was in there for that long. It burnt no oil the whole time it was in there, and when I dropped it, it was jet black and no signs of grit/metal, nor did it stink of fuel or smell burnt. And yes I know i should of got the sample done, maybe next time I will.
  13. K&N's are loud. And can be had for $80 odd or so. Yeeeeesssss know they're oiled and everyone seems to whinge about it "fouling AFM's", but i've have never experienced this so called fouling in the 2yrs of me owning one and cleaning and re-oiling it twice. Otherwise if filtration is last on your agenda, the stainless steel mesh ones would be your best buy for noise. I'm pretty sure DRIFT do a cheap stainless one.
  14. haha @ GTST. There is no way of getting rid of the induction noise with the pod, even if you box it. You'd need some thick heat insulation in there to make quieten it down, but even then I'd highly doubt it'd get rid of the noise like a stock air box. Pod induction noise, you either love it or hate it. Or just learn to live with it.
  15. judging from the pictures its the same dump pattern as the standard turbo.
  16. hahaha. 10 000kms for me. Its just a street car and its not like the street is the second bathurst. Also, as mentioned before, Synthetics don't break down like minerals do. Unless you race your car (trackdays or drags) or it pollutes its oil quickly, I can't justify doing oil and filter changes at 5K. As above ^^^, oil filters don't start working at their best till 4.5k anyway.
  17. I think he's trying to say your defying the point of the thread. If you didn't have a skyline you'd own a skyline.....? doesn't make sense.
  18. Well I am insured with Just Car. I told them over the phone that I had bought a Power FC and they said no worries we'll add it to your policy. I know sometimes insurance mobs can be very discrimitive so to speak. Maybe its your state and its laws. QLD seems to be more laid back with mods. edit: just realised you haven't called them yet. You should be fine to add it. Call them and ask them. If they say no, i'd be suprised.
  19. Sorry I edited my post a bit late. Well, from what I can figure is, as long as just car is willing to cover you with said modifications then you should be ok. As far as EPA road worthy trash goes, maybe they're assuming that said modications were approved by an engineer, hence mod plated and road worthy. It may pay to ask them that question. I'm sure the chick or lad on the otherside of the phone would be quite obliged to answer it for you to give you a definite.
  20. Well when you do up online quotes and when your listing your modificatiions it has the "aftermarket/replacement ECU" modification tick box. So that should tell you that they would cover you with a power fc installed. Tell them the truth about what you have got on the car and you should have no troubles. PS. I told just car I had a FC and they happily added it to the list of modifications and continued to insure my car. I have never had to make a claim, but if it makes you happy I have a friend who had an accident in his 34 and he had his FC fitted at the time. The assesor went over his car and approved the claim.
  21. have you tried a locksmith?? A larger company would be better. And talk to someone that does the automotive key cutting and programming there. You may in fact be able to get it much cheaper than what nissan would rape you for.
  22. lilhaulerz drop the dump pipe and check the exhaust wheel. nizmonut could be on the money. Well it makes sense coming from your diagnosis......kind of. If there's anything missing off the exhaust wheel, check the cat for the bits.
  23. 242rwkw for a standard rb25 turbo is impossible. 242rwkw for a highflowed standard rb25 turbo is possible. Standard injectors would max out before 242rwkw, so thats an immediate giveaway that the provided kw output is incorrect and that its just a standard turbo. Its 200rwkw on average for a standard turbo. as stated 12psi max for standard rb25 turbo's. The ceramic exhaust wheel is prone to let go at anything higher.
