Tis true what GTST says. Although it is your car and money. Fitting a pod will get you that sucking noise from the turbo if it floats your boat. But as GTST said, don't expect any performance gain. There is however one issue i have read about (stress the "read about"....hence not my experience) on this forum with fitting a pod in direct outside airflow in the front bar. When driving/cruising or hwy cruising the air is too much for the turbo to ingest, so what happens when air is being forced into the pod and the turbo isn't taking it all in? The air backs up and trys to escape again out past the AFM and pod.......a type of reversion i think it is. And when air flows past the air flow meter twice but not all of the air is actually taken in, the car then overfuels thinking that it has more air then what it actually has, and the car will in theory hesisitate caused from this reversion, making your pleasurable driving experience really really......crap. Someone shoot me down if I got some of that wrong. But i'm sure this doesn't happen to everyone that does this mod, and some people have no issues with it. In my experience though, i have a pod in the engine bay, boxed off of course, and i also have a CAI routed to it. Its basically pvc pipe that goes down the hole with a 90 degree bend finished off with a big funnel. now this CAI feeds/points directly to the pod, now I have taken the pod out one day and looked underneath where the CAI feeds and it was FILTHY, full of dust, dirt and bugs all concentrated into this small circular area where the CAI feeds, literally caked on there. So now I filter the the CAI pipe with a stocking. Imagine whats gonna happen when you just expose your pod inside the front bar. No the mesh isn't going to stop it. yes the box your thinking will help against things coming in from the back and side, but there is still a heck of a lot of dust feeding in through the front. Stick with your airbox. If you must have a pod, put it in the engine bay like everybody else and box it off.

Rev210's 5min $5 Intake Pipe Mod For Your Stagea/skyline.
RBwhatever replied to rev210's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
wow, your keen -
Turbo back. Cat back refers to the exhaust from the catalytic converter to the rear muffler (does not include the cat). Turbo back refers to the exhaust from the turbo to the rear muffler. The whole thing basically. So in essence, Cat back = cat back Turbo Back = dump pipe, front pipe, bigger cat, cat back

Rev210's 5min $5 Intake Pipe Mod For Your Stagea/skyline.

i'll take a piccy for ya -
Man i'm so inconsistant with my decisions. Ok my final decision is: Filter change and top up at this coming 10 000kms. Oil & filter Change at 20 000kms and a sample sent off for analysis. I won't worry about sending a sample off at 10 000kms. I'm putting my trust in this oil. I'll see how it has done at the 20 000kms. Synthetics are supposed to be superior oils, so i'm going to treat it like one. Thanks for all your help chuckie. Much appreciated.

Removing A Turbo From A Gtst
RBwhatever replied to olloSKYLINEollo's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
get a honda if you want some fun. Integra would be my pick. Or pick up a SSS -
Hmmm interesting. I think what i'll do is change the oil this time around at 10 000kms which is coming up soon, but i will also send a sample of it off to get analysed. How do you usually extract a sample from your oil so it doesn't get exposed or contaminated by other things? And what do you put it in?
-
I bought mine second hand, in fact by the time i got it, it is probably third or even forth hand. It works a treat too.
-
whats wrong with second hand?

Rb25 Blowing Heaps Of White/blue Smoke
RBwhatever replied to nizmo_freek's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
so just to clarify, shot rings means there should be blue smoke out of the exhaust, getting lots of blow by, and very low compression yes? -
Shouldn't a 430 be good for 230ish rwkw?

In defence of GTST, I must say although he may be quite blunt and sarcastic in his replies, he is in fact right. He merely tells it like it is. In reply to the thread starter. 9 pages of bov and flutter goodnes. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/se...=%2Bbov+flutter Search is your friend. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/search.html

I've got a reply back from Fuchs. I have put his replys in italics and bold. It is as follows: Let me know what you think chuckie I'm sort of coming to the conclusion, that maybe you are able to run your oil for twice the recommened because of your regular long trips. But for me, i'm only ever doing small trips. So maybe 10 000kms is more suited...... Perhaps i should get it analysed. Cheers.

Hey chuckie, How many kms do you do weekly? Or every 6months? I currently do about 10 000kms every 6months. I've sent an email/enquiry to fuchs about what they recommend for servicing intervals etc. I used you as an exmple getting 20 000kms and the oil still being in good order and asked if it was ok for me to do as well. I brought up the issue of how many believe it is important to half the service intervals for turbocharged vehicles etc. I hope you don't mind me using you as an example. No names or direct references were used, just "a person i know". I'll report back with what they say. I'm keen to be able to run my oil for 20 000kms too. Cheers.

Or the spring n it is just too heavy duty, even when loosened.
-
it would be possible to swap instrument panels. They just plug in and hey presto, low kms.
-
Of course its going to flutter if the spring tension is set to max. Its making the bov harder to open/vent forcing the pressure to try and push its way back out through the turbo. You loosen the tension to make it vent easier.

Lightweight is blue Super Lightweight is like a beige Heavy is red I don't believe there is a green oil that redline makes. Not in shockproof anyway. The use of redline shockproof seems to be debatable. Many have used it with success and no problems at all and actually have found it to be an improvement. It seems the general consensus is, don't use it on good gearboxs, if your gearbox is worn use it and it will improve it. I've used it in mine and it has gotten rid of the syncro problems. Otherwise use Redline MTL or MT90 which is recommended by redline for syncro gearbox's.
-
Hey man, thanks for posting that up Are you able to translate the information for us? I'm unable to understand what the different numbers mean..... My oil is coming close to 10 000kms on it now and i'm keen to hear how yours went

Hey chuckie how'd you go?
