  1. I was serious about helping oblivo. Having a mechanics input on a this topic is very much welcomed. And yes your right I'm not a mechanic, and when issues arise that are out of my capabilities I do take my car to a mechanic. It's good too see a mechanic on here to share his thoughts as most of us are not mechanics and do not always know better including me. I look forward to seeing more of your posts that can help others. People come to the forums to learn about their cars and a lot them are do it yourselfers. They like to know what is in their ability to get things fixed/modified/improved with their own hands, and if necessary taking it to a mechanic. I'm sorry if I came across to you in the wrong way and I apologize. Peace mate. This will be my last post in this thread. I'm over it. Moonus I hope your problem gets sorted in one way or another. Cheers.
  2. It's good to hear there's workshops around that offer good service. Maybe you can help oblivo out with his predicament. Poor guy has gone through a lot without any avail to his problem. Please refer to quote below. Cheers
  3. It is a very common problem that is not always simply fixed. Sorry for any inconvenience or offense I may have caused you. Cheers & peace brother. Edited.
  4. Ok here we go. In my other post I did refer to running in/bedding in as part of it. Please see here.... And this here is a continuation of my arguement. I did not feel it was necessary to include all information twice. I'm saying it again. It still doesn't mean that even if you do all the appropriate measures to prevent it, it's not going to stop it completely in all cases. Some people will have problems with noise, some people don't. To say that "depending on what u do with your pad if u install and run em in right then no pad will squeal" is not true. Yes it will help and can stop or minimize squeal, but it will not always work in all cases. In a perfect world maybe, but not here I'm not trying to prove you wrong, I'm just trying to say that proper installation and bedding in procedures will not cure all squealing problems. Cheers
  5. Yes thats fair enough. I was just using it for examples sake. Brake pad compounds differ from pad to pad. From what Bl4cK32 is saying that it dosent matter pads you use, proper installation of them will ensure in no squeal.
  6. So your saying pad compound has nothing to do with it..? How is it pointless? Its a valid scenario.
  7. LOL rightio My arguement still stands. What about pad compound? That's got heaps to do with it too. So your saying if I ran a set of dedicated race pads, if I bed them in, I'm guarunteed to not get squeal even for street use & light braking?
  8. hahahaha yeah I figured that. I haven't got anything on there now except for the shims. I'm not concerned about it any more so it doesn't matter
  9. I reckon its just part of the parcel. If you want uprated/upgraded brake pads, be prepared to get some noise. some will squeal more or less than others, but it comes down to the compound of the brake pad, and regardless of what you do it will squeal to some extent.
  10. Funny that. I asked the mech about some copper grease or something and said noooo don't use any sort of grease stuff. He was saying that the silicon would match the shape of the piston once it pushes onto it and stop it from vibrating. I used gasket silicon so it was pretty easy to remove. He also reckons that the red or orange brake goo is just coloured silicon too......? hmmmm.
  11. Not necessarily. It'll do it in other gears to given the chance. eg. Driving up a hill doing about 60kph and putting it in 5th gear will put the car under load and will make the same sound. It just so happens in his situation he's in 3rd gear going even slower, probably more like 20kph around a corner and revving under 2000rpm and trying to accelerate thus putting the car under load.
  12. But bendix is sooo cheap! hahaha I'm a budget person. I don't find dust much of a problem. I mean by the time the mags are so dusty, the whole car usually needs a wash anyway. Just wash them when you was the car. But then again, my mags are black. And squealing, who cares...? just turn the stereo up so you can't hear it
  13. Don't you have to get like a plug in adapter or something?
  14. Yeah as you said, drill and tap a nipple into your piping. I just teed into the BOV vacuum line, seems to work fine, I've had no issues with it.
  15. I don't talk to or name my car. The only time it gets spoken to is when its getting worked on, and its usually cursed at.
  16. Prior to fitting my pads I spoke to a mech and he said to use silastic/silicon for the anti squeal goo because that's all that stuff is. When I did fit my pads I applied the silicon. A seal in the master cylinder died as I fitted the pads due to pushing the fluid back up the lines and through the cylinder. Now that made the pedal really squishy to the point it would just hit the floor. After I got the seals replaced the and had the master cylinder reconditioned the pedal was still really squishy, so I took the pads back out and took all the silicon off the back of the pads and shims etc and it was instantly better pedal feel. Maybe I over applied the silicon, but I didn't think so, it was just a smear. OK I admit I shouldn't of used the word Pre-Bedded as that changes the meaning of everything. I should of said Pre-Conditioned. This is straight from the Bendix Horses mouth. http://www.bendix.com.au/UltimateFeaturesBenefits.aspx Unless bendix is lying to us..... Cheers
  17. Mine puts out two types of squealing. One is the high pitch squeal, the other is the really loud screech. It doesn't happen all the time. For most of the time they put out the high pitch squeal which is pretty bearable. Sometimes they don't make a noise at all. It's much of a muchness really. If it starts to screech really loud, I'll drag that sound out as long as possible, it's funny to see the expressions on peoples faces
  18. No its right. Thats what they do. Mine squeal as well, mainly under light braking, but you've got to expect it with ultimates. Ultimates don't need bedding in, they come pre-bedded. You can put brake goo on the back of the pads and shims to stop it from chattering on the piston, but I tried this and I lost a lot of brake pedal feel, the pedal went squishy/soft. Me not like, so I removed it. If its squealing between the pad and the disc, there is a pressure pack stuff you can spray on the disc. You can pick it up from a repco store or something of the like. If your like me, just put up with it. At least when it squeals it reminds you that you've got good pads. Don't worry about it when people look at you because of your brakes.
  19. have you tried filing two flats on either side of the nut? then try and get a shifter(the forbidden tool) or a spanner onto it. The worst thing that can happen is that it shears in two, but hey at least you tried.
  20. Yeah 3rd in a corner is to high a gear if your going slow enough. You've probably just put a lot of load on the motor trying to move it at such low speeds under a certain amount of rpm. Don't worry about it the car is fine. If it was pinging at high rpm, then I'd be worried.
  21. Vice grips can do the trick.
  22. you sure it was pinging? What fuel are you using?
  23. I told just cars insurance about my lock bar, they just said "as long as you get it fitted professionally you'll be right." I just described it to them as a unit that removes the 4wheel steering and they understood. They didn't whack me any extra money for it either. As long as notify them of all the mods on your car, they'll insure you for them.
