Another one......

You can if you want. But whats the point if you only get a 3" dump/front pipe? It comes down to flow. For your car you probably won't max out the flow capacity of a 3" cat anyway. Unless you got big plans for big power than go for 4".
-
NSW section should have some.
-
Only if your pumping out big numbers. 3" is usually adequate for most applications.
-
I'm not sure sure if anyone else has the same problem, but whenever I send a pm, it gets sent but a copy is not saved into the sent pm's folder. It was working before the upgrade but not now. Cheers.

If for any reason the cat collapses you chokes up somehow and starts to restrict flow(majorly), then in theory the cat should heat up and the temp sensor would pick this up yes?
-
Yeah me too. I got a mild steel exhaust. As far as differences go, you'd have to run back to back dyno runs with the different pipes. I don't think anyones done that. As you said also, the join should be as far back possible to avoid turbulence. Make it that way to be safe. Also make sure they make an allowance for the O2 sensor, but they should know that. It'll be a good idea to go for a 3" cat too if you don't have one.

You could get the just jap one and fit it yourself. Cheaper and plus it'll be stainless. Bit of a pig to fit but definitely do-able. Get a mate to give you a hand and it'll be much easier. A lot of money can be wasted in paying for labour. Fit most things yourself and you'll save heaps of money.

This thread seems to be turning into a big argument about v8's and their power output.....
-
So where's the money coming from? What 18 year old can afford a r34gtt and then mod it and fit and i quote "ive actually got a 10grand sound system with full neon setup, wider guards, full Do Luck R34 GTR Body Kit, ive got Silver Volk GTC as rims, and this is why im aiming for my next step, big power.....im after the whole package 18x10 tyres ive got now, it just makes everything that much better". At 18 most of us had to stretch our bank accounts just to buy a rusty bucket with wheels. Then we went on to labour for our earnings to even buy a sports car. Then the money to start modding the thing and paying insurance is enough to make lil timmy cry for a bowl of food. Edit: Working for telstra? so your pay packet is better than most other peoples? at the age of 18? please...

Just When You Thought Wrx's Couldn't Get Any Uglier!

Its how much they flow. Don't know what it stands for though. Depnds how much power you want to make. If you only shooting for about 200kw or so you could probably just use the xforce one. But if you have big plans for big power, get the metal cat. The free-er flowing exhaust the better. ps Metal Cat is a brand.

Stainless Steel Mesh Pod Filters
RBwhatever replied to RBwhatever's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
A few of the guys on ns.com think its a sin to run oiled filters because it "stuffs up the AFM". In my experience, I've had a oiled filter for about a year now and quite honestly no oil had contaminated of the afm or performance drop. No oil has even left the filter for that fact and coated the intake. The only time oil came though the filter is when I re-oiled it probably a tad too much. Just got some electrical contact cleaner and sprayed down the afm after I ran the filter for a few drives. -

I think for me it comes down to getting a stainless mesh pod or a K&N pod. The thought of the stainless mesh pod flowing heaps better is cool , but the thought of driving through it through a large dust cloud that a lawn mower or tractor or truck is kicking up and getting all that fine dust going straight through the filter isn't very nice. I think I'll go for the K&N. Best protection and flows decent enough. the flow difference probably doesn't matter as much anyway on a car thats not putting out big power. -

Interesting, could depend on what we drive through too and how fine the mesh is I suppose. -

hahahaha, at least they're returned out the back of the car. What brand do you use? I was thinking of going for a Simota cone pod. Yeah I use a K&N panel at the moment. I was going to give these stainless ones a shot cos they're affordable and reusable, otherwise I'll be getting a K&N pod. They seem to be pretty new to the market all these stainless filters yes? -

I suppose as far filtration goes you only want to keep the big stuff out like bugs and large bits of dust anyway. -

$--- delivered from Sydneykid's groupbuy. It'll be more if you want adjustable. I couldn't be bothered going adjustable as I never hit the track. I'm not sure how much on delivery to NZ though. -

Wheezy, how could you tell it was bad at filtering? When it was cleaned? URAS what brand would you recommend for a steel mesh filter? Also since they're a reusable filter, is cleaning them a matter of just rinsing them out? -
I don't know what pads I have. They used to screech heaps. Then I got the brakes machined and it solved the majority of the problem. Now it'll only screech fist thing in the morning when they're damp, or when they get wet for some reason.

No worries, the pics didn't seem to upload in order. Yeah there was a huge improvement. Best handling mod for its price. -

According to that link, the apexi power intake was the best at filtering than the K&N. But in one of the latest Autosalon mags, the K&N was better at filtering than the Apexi Power Intake. I don't what to believe. Does anyone else have a comment on the stainless mesh? -

Got them on. Took me about 3hrs. The front ones were the hardest to get on. Some the bolts were pretty hard to get off. Had to use a breaker bar on some of them. If you've got a cheapo socket set, its guaranteed to wreck the ratchet. Make sure you've got a heavy duty ratchet to do the job and an extension or two as well. Rattle gun would be even better. Rear ones were easy as. On the front I had to take that big arm off that bolts on just below the D bracket so I could access the other bolt on the D bracket. Getting the arm on and off was a mongrel. I used a rubber mallet and a big screwdriver to bring the bush around to fit the arm back on. That was about the hardest part of the job getting those arms out and back in. Results: Noticed the difference straight away on the road. A lot more responsive, better turn in , heaps more grip and its cut out a lot of the body roll. I didn't get a photo of the front bar fitted, but its the same as the stocker anyway. Pics:
