  1. Hmmm ok, so just disregard what it the AFR gauge says and just assume its richer than usual yeah? In saying that can you get wideband O2 sensors to replace the stock item?
  2. yeah mate, it changed. It still works fine without it.
  3. Mr Italy: Plugging that hole is no good? Causes surging? mad082: The jaycar kit is the same as the techedge kit you can buy on the internet. Type "techedge air fuel gauge" into google and it should come up. The range of the gauge is only between 11.6 - 20.something. It takes readings off the O2 sensor every 440ms and the little dot gauge beside it every 220ms. Ok so the gauge is a little slow and so is the O2 sensor and is mostly only good to read off when you have a constant throttle position, which I could do before I fitted the exhaust. It would read rich under full throttle and lean upon deceleration. Now it doesn't hit rich on WOT. I'll take it for another drive when I get home and check again, it just seems weird to me. You'd think it'll run richer rather than leaner. But apart from that the cars awsome. If I didn't have that digital AFR gauge I probably wouldn't be so worried about it. Michael_1882: I got my exhaust from just jap for $799 + Freight. Where are you getting your prices?
  4. Hi guys, I finally got my exhaust. Its mild steel. 3" bell mouth dump pipe/front pipe - 3" Xforce high flow cat - 3.5" Cat back - 3" cannon. My car now has: Turbo back exhaust K&N Hiflow Panel Filter R34 SMIC Turbotech BC set to 9.5/10psi I had a mate help me to bolt it up, so it took us roughly just under 3hrs to remove the stock one and fit the new one. Firstly we only fitted the cat back and the high flow cat and took it for a spin. I wasn't that impressed.... it was better than before and power delivery seemed like it was smoother. I was running 7psi and it rose to 7.5psi after the this part of the exhaust was done. So we proceeded to fit the dump/front pipe and we also blocked off that little hole in the stock BOV to stop leakage. After everything was back together, we took it for another spin. My goodness it made a huge difference! You could hear the turbo spooling up alot louder, boost kicked in quicker and harder, and it pulled thoughout the whole rev range. Boost thus changed from 7.5psi to 8.5psi. No missfire, no detonation. I then bumped the boost up again to 9.5psi, and it just loved it. As far as sound of the system goes, i thought it was going to be a lot louder, but it just suits me fine, not too loud, definitely legal even with the silencer out, not droney, with a nice burble and deep note. With the silencer in its pretty silent. I'll post some pics of the comparison of dump pipes & finished product later. Definitely the best mod I've done to car and it only cost $870. Thanks guys, any feedback is appreciated Sorry for the long letter. EDIT: Question about AFR's removed as the issue has been answered, little hole in BOV unblocked, thanks people. See post 21 for sound recording (Thanks Howie for posting it)
  5. Are you sure your boost went up when you put the smic on? or was it the BC that you put on. I did this same mod to my car, and boost didn't go up. I'm no expert either, but it doesn't take an expert to tell you that your performance gains will be minimal until you do your exhaust. Sure you can bump the boost up a bit, you'll definitely feel it pick up better down low, but overall performance won't increase by much, along with you putting unnecessary strain on the turbo.
  6. 7psi....as I have been kindly directed by members of this forum Its no good for your turbo to be trying to blow through a tiny pipe that has a few 90 degree bends. What happens when you blow through a small straw a lot harder than normal??........ Your face goes red and heats up.......so does your turbo
  7. so its a skyline gts25/gtr/honda accord/renault/wannabe F1 car/drifter initialD style/that batman drives....
  8. i put a r34 smic on about a month ago on my stocker. It didn't make it have any more power of course (stock boost), but boost came on slighty quicker....
  9. Red Arrow --> Stock boost solenoid (Bleed Valve). Controls boost. Blue Arrow --> Pressure Side, Pressure flows to the solenoid through this hose. Green Arrow --> Bleed Hose, any air that is bled off by the solenoid goes through this hose. From factory that hose plumbs back into the "plumb back" pipe coming from the BOV. So any air that is bled off to create more boost, is bled back into the intake before the turbo. I don't know why that hose is blocked off. Unless your car is using another boost controller. Because it is blocked off, and if the car is using the stock boost solenoid to control boost, then it would not be able to bleed off any air to increase boost.....so the turbo would only be making 5psi max and not 7psi. Anyone please correct me if i'm wrong.
  10. maybe its got something to do with your acuator. Mine seems to hold boost fine. Unless the spring loses it's tension over time....?? Thats just my uneducated guess.
  11. My car did 150rwkw on the dyno with stock exhaust & boost, had a k&n panel filter (probably didn't do much without the exhaust done). As said before, there's something wrong with your boost. It should be hitting 7psi.
  12. Is one of those meant to be stainless? Shoebox --> I'd just go for the xforce mild steel system. I'm pretty tight with my money. I'll be getting one some time in the near future.
  13. Just about 85% of my kms are around town. I had the impression also that with a bigger exhaust it would actually make the engine run more efficiently, but as said before at WOT it would run richer than stock. Hmm thanks guys, I just wanted to make sure that I wouldn't be seeing it drop to 300 - 400 kms per 50-55L. And yes, driving style has a lot to do with fuel economy. When I bought my car it was dead stock, the first I week I had it, I did 300kms to 55L
  14. does anyone else have any opinions?
  15. yeah it very rarely sees the 10psi, only on odd occasions.
  16. Ok, so I was thinking of upgrading my stock exhaust to a 3" turboback. I was looking into getting one of those xforce mild steel ones. I've still got the stock ecu and i'm trying to stay away from upgrading it. My car is a R33 S1. Mods are: K&N Hi Flow Panel Filter Boosted to 10 psi Sports muffler (yes thats right, the muffler only.....hence the upgrade.) Current economy: 500kms from 50-56L Will it make my car run rich and have bad fuel economy? Thanks guys...
  17. If the bolt has been screwed right it and forced the ball against its seat, the ball can get stuck. Take the appropriate nipple off the BC and push the ball in to release it from the seat.
  18. the ball isn't stuck in its seat is it?
  19. Give it a go. It won't hurt to try.
  20. In here. Sorry for the really bad paint skills.
  21. your talking about that little brass thing in the hose before the BC? I left mine in, BC seems to work great with it in. I wondered myself if should take it out.
  22. nah the 32 unit is different ay.
  23. I agree. Thanks mate
  24. thats the stock one. Mine looks exactly the same.
  25. Hey guys, I got a mate with an S15. His mods are --> Pod, Cat Back, Boosted to 10psi by replacing one of the factory hoses (was like that when he bought it), Boost gauge plumbed in before the plenum. Anyway, he reckons that it seems to be spiking 3-4psi on gear changes, and thinks his stock BOV is causing it, and thinks he might need a new one. Is that possible? or impossible? It doesn't sound quite right to me. Thanks...
